Disney's new movie The Muppets starring Jason Segel and Amy Adams amongst others, has been accused of brainwashing the youth of America with liberal propaganda by the Fox Business Channel anchor Eric Bolling.
The movie, which has performed reasonably well at the box-office, follows the loveable characters as they attempt to save their theatre from an evil oil baron named Tex Richman. However, according to Reuters, anchor Bolling showed a clip of the movie during his show and suggested altogether more sinister reasons for The Muppets fight to save their home, most notably, liberal brainwashing. He asked, "Liberal Hollywood depicting a successful businessman as 'evil,' that's not new. What's actually going on there? Is liberal Hollywood using class warfare to brainwash our kids?" His Fox guest Dan Gainor replied, "They've been doing it for decades. Hollywood - they hate the oil industry, they hate corporate America". So far, Disney are yet to comment on the accusations.
Programmes such as The Muppets and Sesame Street have long been targeted by conservative commentators who claim writers attempt to drop subtle liberal and democratic messages into cartoons. Investigative author and right-wing columnist Ben Shapiro released his book 'Primetime Propaganda' earlier this year, exploring the political agenda of writers for America's biggest shows. During an interview with the UK's Independent on Sunday, he explained, "I was shocked by the openness of the Hollywood crowd when it came to admitting anti-conservative discrimination inside the industry. They weren't ashamed of it. In fact, some were actually proud of it".
