'The Simpons' new home will be FXX

FXX, which is owned by Fox, will begin airing previous episodes of 'The Simpsons' in August 2014.

Details of the new deal have yet to be released but it is thought that other television networks such as TBS and Comedy Central were in the bidding war against FXX, who may have paid over $1 billion for the rights, according to New York Daily News.

'The Simpsons' in the longest running comedy series in television history, with the first episode airing in 1989 and with its 25th season coming to an end, the show has just been renewed for a another one which is due to air next year.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new deal covers all 24 seasons of the beloved series, which includes 530 episodes, and will mark the first time 'The Simpsons' will air exclusively on cable.

FX COO Chuck Saftler told THR, "We believe we'll get both reach and frequency from The Simpsons, Frequency tends to come from acquired series, where if you're a fan of that show, you'll come back multiple times. It's a way to create sampling for original programming to other programming we'll have on FXX. I couldn't think of a deeper, richer, broader way to create awareness, sampling and breadth for FX."

The transaction also means episodes of the comedy series will be aired on FXNOW, an upcoming mobile app.

FXX will began airing episodes of 'The Simpsons' in August 2014 and will broadcast season 25, which is currently being shown, once season 26 is underway. This will continue with each new series, should 'The Simpsons' be renewed for a 27th season.
