Maria von Trapp, the last member of the real-life von Trapp Family Singers, whose story was made popular by The Sound Of Music, has died at age 99. The real von Trapp singer, portrayed in The Sound of Music as Louisa, died at her home in Vermont on Tuesday, according to USA Today.

"She was a lovely woman who was one of the few truly good people," her brother Johannes von Trapp said. "There wasn't a mean or miserable bone in her body. I think everyone who knew her would agree with that."

The von Trapps escaped Nazi-occupied Austria in 1938 and went on to perform a series of concerts across Europe and even a three-month tour throughout America. Their inspiring story was later adapted into the 1959 musical by Richard Rodgers. The modified stage version tells the story of an Austrian woman who married a widower with seven children and teaches them music. It started life as a stage musical, but has since been adapted into a 1965 film and in 2013, a live television special by NBC.
