The Wanted decided to call it quits temporarily after almost four years of success across the globe, deciding to go on a lengthy hiatus following an exhausting period on the road. It is a move that will have no doubt broken a few teenage hearts, but it is one that singer Max George says will not last forever.

The boys want to work on their individual projects

Shortly after it was announced that the band are hanging up their low-cut t-shirts and tight jeans, George took to his Twitter account to reassure fans that this is by no means the end of one of the world's most successful boybands of the last few years.

"Hey guys, so I know the news today was a big thing, but let me tell you this is not the END," George reassured his 1.2 million followers on Wednesday, 22 January. He followed this up tweeting, "It's the right time for myself and the other boys to have some time to try and achieve other things in our lives and careers," adding "And I hope I see you all with me in my own ventures."

His sentiment was shared by fellow Wanted bandmate Tom Parker, who reassured his followers tweeting, "Just want to say...It's a break, not the end. You can't get rid of us that easily haha!"

The group's decision to go their separate ways, for the time being, was announced earlier that day via a statement on the band's website. The statement made it clear that the hiatus was done with the best of everyone's intentions in mind and was a group decision. It read: "The band wants to stress to their fans that they will continue on as The Wanted and look forward to many successful projects together in the future. They thank their fans for their continued love and support and look forward to seeing them on tour."
