Tina Fey Has Some News For Us About Why Hillary Clinton Lost

Tina Fey

Tina Fey was hilarious as usual when she went to accept her award at the 2016 Women in Entertainment breakfast this week, talking about what it's like to be both a comedian and a woman, and particularly talking about why she felt that Hillary Clinton lost the election.

Tina FeyTina Fey gives hilarious Women in Entertainment speech

Introduced by Jon Hamm who presented her with The Hollywood Reporter's Sherry Lansing Award yesterday morning (December 7th 2016), Tina had her audience in stitches with her gag-filled acceptance speech. She praised Sherry Lansing herself, teased Hamm about not crushing on him and made numerous references to the presidential election, even joking about Donald Trump's recently surfaced 2006 sexist comments.

She told Woman's Day: ''I want to keep looking for roles where the main interest will be in the character and her importance in driving a story forward, rather than her relationship with a male character.

Tina Fey Loved The Challenges Of Whiskey Tango Foxtrot

Tina Fey

In Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, she plays real-life journalist Kim Barker, who quit her desk job to cover the war in Afghanistan for three years. Fey first heard about Barker's memoir The Taliban Shuffle because it mentions that she saw herself as a Tina Fey type.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot is based on real events

"When I read the book, I enjoyed it so much that I had to jump quickly," Fey says. "A lot of times, when you read a book like that you're like, 'Oh my gosh, I have to get this before anyone else buys it.' Otherwise the movie could have starred, like, Julia Roberts or Kate Winslet!"

Tina Fey's 'Whiskey Tango Foxtrot' Got The WTF Part Down - Reviews

Tina Fey

Tina Fey's newest comedy endeavour 'Whiskey Tango Foxtrot' has managed to triumph in the eyes of most critics, who have accepted the whole WTF aspect and generally enjoyed the ride even if it was a little messy in parts. But some reviewers had some less positive points to make.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot posterTina Fey's new comedy has critics flummoxed

'Whiskey Tango Foxtrot' generally seems to have fared better for those open to the fact that this is not a straight comedy. Based on the autobiography of Kim Barker, it follows a journalist taking a huge leap in jetting off to Afghanistan and Pakistan warzones to cover the conflicts there.

Ronda Rousey Tina Fey

It’s an unlikely pairing, but comedian Tina Fey and former UFC champ Ronda Rousey are set to team up together on the big screen for a new comedy. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot - Teaser Trailer

Being over 40 and a female journalist in the city means you don't necessarily get the good projects to work on. Kim Barker is just one of those women and she's in need of a new dose of... something. Her relationship is static and her life hasn't exactly become the success story she hoped it would.

When her news organisation is looking for some new field reporters, Kim decides that it might be the chance she's looking for. Sure, the new job might be based in Kabul, but it's got to be better than what she's got. Arriving in the foreign land, she's sent to 'the fun house', a name given to the building where all the foreign journalists live. Learning how to report from two countries and moving back and forth with armed escorts soon becomes the norm for Kim and she develops a an affection for a country most would be wanting to distance themselves from.

As well as reporting - often menial - stories, Kim quickly becomes absorbed in the local way life as well as finding a few new friends also living in the fun house. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot is based on Kim Barker's memoir The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Tina Fey And Amy Poehler Make A Hilarious Return To 'Saturday Night Live'

Amy Poehler Tina Fey Amy Schumer

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were back together on ‘Saturday Night Live’ this weekend, hosting the show’s annual festive episode. The Sisters' stars' return to the series had us all excited for weeks and these two definitely didn’t disappoint and what’s better is, they even brought back Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin!

Tina Fey and Amy PoehlerAmy Poehler and Tina Fey hosted ‘SNL’ together on Saturday night.

It felt like 2008 again during one sketch as the current Hillary Clinton (Kate McKinnon) had a dream in which she’s visited by her past self (played by Poehler). Past Hillary had plenty of advice for her current self as she prepares to try and make her White House dreams come true.

Fey And Poehler Were Destined To Play Sisters

Tina Fey Amy Poehler

"I think our shorthand that we have with each other makes it easier," says Fey. "Neither of us has a sister, we both have brothers." "I'm personally a little obsessed with sisters," chimes in Poehler. "They are exotic creatures to me. I love being around them and watching them interact. It's like a special language. I think that Tina and I are chosen sisters, so I think it's been fun to experience that thing I never got to experience in real life. We have a moment in the film where we first see each other and just pick on each other like apes. We find that physicalness can be really sisterly - very specific to that relationship."

Sisters Tina Fey & Amy PoehlerSisters Tina Fey & Amy Poehler

In addition to the sister thing, both actresses enjoyed playing with their public personas. "There's a moment," says Poehler, "where Tina's character Kate decides for once 'I'm going to be responsible for tonight' and my character Maura decides 'I'm going to really let loose'. So it's like everybody's wish fulfilment in the film. Everybody gets to be the person they didn't get to be."

Sisters Review

Good

From their inspired pairing on Saturday Night Live and their hysterical 2008 comedy Baby Mama to their riotous hosting of the Golden Globes, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are one of the funniest double-acts in recent memory. So even if they make a film as limp as this one, it's still packed with plenty of laughs. With a simplistic premise and obvious gags, the film isn't nearly as clever as they are. But they make it watchable.

As the title suggests, they play siblings: Kate (Fey) is a single mother with no job and nowhere to live, while Maura (Poehler) has never quite recovered from her divorce. Then their parents (Dianne Wiest and James Brolin) announce that they're selling the family home in Orlando, so Kate and Maura return to clean out their childhood bedrooms. And they're inspired to throw one last epic house party, inviting all of their old high school friends (including John Leguizamo), their school arch-nemesis (Maya Rudolph), a beefy drug dealer (John Cena) and a cute new neighbour (Ike Barinholtz).

Unsurprisingly, once the alcohol starts flowing, things get way out of hand.

Nailed It! Tina Fey Is Now Among Our Favourite Celebrity Impressionists [Video]

Tina Fey Jimmy Fallon

It's no secret that Tina Fey is one of the funniest women in Hollywood right now, and now she's gone one step further and proved she's a stellar impressionist too! Sure, her Robert De Niro could use a little work, but her Sofia Vergara was on point.

Tina FeyAs if we needed another reason to love Tina Fey

The 'Saturday Night Live' comedienne played First Impressions with Jimmy Fallon on 'The Tonight Show' with hilarious results. While Fallon mocked her generally terrible ability to mimic, even he couldn't deny that her albeit brief impression of 'Modern Family' star Sofia Vergara was practically faultless. Plus, her Elmo voice is one of the best we've ever heard. Still, Jack Nicholson wasn't bad either considering it's hard for a woman to reach that vocal register.

Tina Fey Reveals Real Story That Inspired '30 Rock's' C-Word Episode

Tina Fey Colin Quinn

We’ve all known for a long time that the episode of ’30 Rock’ in which Tina Fey’s character Liz Lemon was called the c-word was inspired by real life events, but now the comedian has revealed exactly who used the profanity against her.

Tina FeyTina Fey has revealed which ‘SNL’ cast member called her the c-word.

Appearing on 'The Howard Stern Show' on Monday, Fey said it was former ‘SNL’ cast member Colin Quinn who had actually said it to her. "I love him so much," Fey explained. "I was trying to help him with a show that he was working on, and I think his anxiety about the writing of the show spilled over.”

Saturday Night Live Is Typical, Moderately Funny, In Anniversary Special

Saturday Night Live Bradley Cooper Betty White Tina Fey

Saturday Night Live celebrated its 40th anniversary this past week. Congratulations! The verdict? It was good enough. Like many other SNL episodes, this one was a 50/50 deal - some of the jokes fell flat, while others got just a passing laugh. There were zingers, but we probably won't be recycling jokes Christopher Walken's "only perscription is more cowbell" in a couple of years.

Happy 40th, Saturday Night Live!

Though re-visiting old sketches and characters was a welcome bit of nostalgia, of course.  Tina Fey's Sarah Palin, holding a flute and wondering when the talent portion of the show would begin was a highlight. In the end, more often than not, the show was funny.

Functioning Just Fine! In Praise Of 'Mean Girls' Actor Daniel Franzese's Open Letter

Daniel Franzese Tina Fey

So, it turns out that Mean Girls actor Daniel Franzese isn’t “too gay to function”, and FYI, he hates that saying too. The actor has written an eloquent open letter in which he publicly comes out of the closet. The letter comes a week prior to the 10th anniversary of the movie, in which he played Damian (cripes, has it really been 10 years?).

Daniel Franzese Mean Girls Franzese has written an open letter discussing his sexuality

The touching letter was published on Indiewire and was addressed from Franzese to his character Damian. The letter begins, “Dear Damian, It’s been a long time since our last encounter. Ten years to be exact. I was twenty-six; you were sixteen. You were proud of who you were; I was an insecure actor. You became an iconic character that people looked up to; I wished I’d had you as a role model when I was younger. It might have been easier to be gay growing up.”

"Muppets: Most Wanted" Isn't Just For Kids, Apparently

Ricky Gervais Ty Burrell Tina Fey

For a kids’ movie, The Muppets: Most Wanted has more than its fair share of decidedly adult jokes. Of course, it’s no surprise that a film starring top tier comedians like Ricky Gervais and Tina Fey would have a few jokes aimed at the grownups.

Muppets: Most Wanted
Kermit's back and he even has an evil doppleganger this time.

Those mainly consisted of a Russian gulag, looking just like you’d imagine a Russian gulag in an American film to look, and some running jokes about Europeans’ work habits and frequent vacations. The end of American diplomacy this certainly isn’t, but it’s more than just a fun-filled colorful romp for children. And definitely more complex than its 2011 predecessor.

Ricky Gervais Tina Fey Steve Whitmire

Muppets: Most Wanted is out in the US on Friday, so it might be time to talk about some of Kermit, Miss Piggy, Gonzo and the rest of the gang’s latest adventures. In Muppets: Most Wanted, the fuzzy stars of the long-running franchise team up with the likes of Tina Fey, Ricky Gervais and Ty Burell on a cross-continental hunt for a high-profile jewel thief – who just happens to look a lot like Kermit the Frog.

Ricky Gervais, Muppets: Most Wanted
So far, the critics are divided on Muppets: Most Wanted.

With two days left until the premiere, the movie is already a hit, as far as early reviews are concerned. Without going into too much spoiler-y detail, The Wrap’s review promises self aware jokes and absurdist plot twists – just what we’ve come to expect from the Muppets. It’s not a universal hit – THR’s review is one of a few negative ones, pegging MMW as “an oddly off-key follow-up to the generally amusing 2011 feature”.

College Comedy By Tina Fey Has Been Snapped Up By Fox

Tina Fey

Good news for anyone already missing 30 Rock – a new comedy by the team of Tina Fey (30 Rock creator/showrunner), Matt Hubbard (executive producer) and Robert Carlock (co-showrunner) has been snatched up by Fox. The project, which was the focus of a lot of network competition, is a multiple camera comedy, set at an all-women’s college, which starts accepting men at the beginning of the story. According to a Deadline report, announcing the sale, it’s a production by Universal and Fey’s own Little Stranger company. This time, it will be Hubbard writing the project, which he will executive produce alongside Fey and Carlock.

Fox won the series against serious competition.

It’s been a good week for Fey and Little Stranger overall, with another deal closed just a few days ago. The company set up a single-camera comedy penned by another former 30 Rock writer-producer, Colleen McGuinness, at NBC. The almost omniscient Fey also has an executive producer credit on that show, alongside Carlock. The second show, to air on NBC next fall, reportedly tells the story of a woman, who finds a new home and a new family on Fire Island as she attempts to reconnect with her father.

Anchorman 2 Trailer

Ron Burgundy, Brian Fantana, Brick Tamland and Champ Kind have now hit the eighties and things are a little different. The legendary San Diego news anchors are now embarking on a different project, as part of a 24 hour news channel, but now they have fresh competition in the form of a young, handsome and well-dressed fellow anchor. Ron continues to put himself in sticky situations, this time involving some awkward racism with his new girlfriend's family during a social occasion among many other things. Will their antics extend beyond their previous capers involving angry bears and mean bikers?  Or will the eighties bring with it a more streetwise news bunch? We doubt the latter.

The sequel to 2004's 'Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy' is set to hit our screens soon entitled 'Anchorman: The Legend Continues'. We'll likely be seeing yet more hijinks from one of Hollywood's favourite comedy casts as they return following at massive $85 million gross from the original movie. Produced again by Judd Apatow ('The 40 Year Old Virgin', 'Knocked Up', 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall'), Adam McKay ('Step Brothers', 'The Other Guys', 'Talladega Nights') also makes a return as director and co-writer alongside Will Ferrell. It is scheduled for release in the UK on December 20th 2013.

Admission Review

Very Good

We generally expect more wacky humour from Fey and Rudd than this comedy, which is packed with perhaps too-smart dialog and a lot of warm sentiment. It's an odd mix, looking for jokes in gender roles and higher education, while also finding dramatic and romantic moments along the way. But in the end, the engaging actors make it worth a look.

Fey plays Portia, an admissions officer at the prestigious Princeton University, who's in competition with her office rival (Reuben) for a big promotion as their boss (Shawn) gets ready to retire. Unhelpfully, Portia's long-term boyfriend (Sheen) chooses this moment to leave her. Diving into her job, she visits a progressive high school where the director John (Rudd) is trying a bit too hard to get her to consider unconventionally gifted student Jeremiah (Wolff) for admission to Princeton. Then John tells Portia that he thinks Jeremiah is the son she gave up for adoption 18 years earlier. Meanwhile, Portia's aggressive feminist mother (the superb Tomlin) brings up even more past issues she's never quite dealt with.

The way the screenplay piles all of this on Portia at the same time is more than a little contrived, but Fey juggles it effortlessly, throwing hilariously intelligent one-liners around even in the more intensely serious scenes. Opposite her, Rudd is more understated than usual, and also creates a strongly defined character as a rootless wanderer who just wants to help make the world a better place, but needs to pay more attention to his adopted Ugandan son (Spears). Yes, screenwriter Kroner throws in every variety of parent-child issues too.

Anchorman 2 Trailer

Ron Burgundy, Brian Fantana, Brick Tamland and Champ Kind return in this hilarious sequel to 2004's 'Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy' which saw Ron land himself a hot girlfriend, get attacked by a bear and have his dog thrown over a bridge by an angry biker. The legendary San Diego news anchors are doubtlessly set to entertain us with more news casting exploits which, according to the latest teaser trailer, will involve 'submachine guns and boobies' and getting 'stinky'. One thing's for sure, it's going to be funnier, weirder and much ruder.

Ron Burgundy Is Coming With Better Hair Than Ever In New Anchorman 2 Trailer

Will Ferrell Paul Rudd Vince Vaughn Christina Applegate Kanye West Kristen Wiig Amy Poehler Tina Fey Drake Harrison Ford

As the excitement builds for the Anchorman sequel Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, another trailer for the film was released. You can check out the second trailer, featuring the beloved cast of Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Vince Vaughn and Steve Carell. But we already knew they were in it and, exciting as that prospect is, the cameos, which have been announced recently, make this movie look even better. Viewers will get appearances by actors like Kanye West, Kristen Wiig, Amy Poehler, Jim Carrey, Tina Fey and Harrison Ford, New York Daily News reports.

And the cameos just keep coming. After Kanye West, busy as he is, wrapped his scenes in New York last week, there was another surprising appearance on set – namely an actor, sporting a fro and the appropriate 70s duds, who looked suspiciously like singer/rapper Drake. Apparently the "Take Care" performer will be the latest star in the constellation already appearing in this film. Not only that, but the Daily News also posted several pictures of stars Will Ferrell and Christina Applegate taken during shooting. They look fierce, they look ready to go, but most of all, they look, unsurprisingly, very 70s. And if nothing else, the stills make it obvious that Anchorman 2 will definitely feature some excellent hairdos.

Who Will Be The Next Oscars Host? NOT Tina Fey

Tina Fey Academy Of Motion Pictures And Sciences

Attention has already turned to the 2014 Oscars host; the problem is, though, no one knows who it’s going to be. One thing’s for sure: it won’t be Tina Fey. The comedy actress has ruled her self out in a conversation with The Huffington Post.

“But I just feel like that gig is so hard. Especially for, like, a woman - the amount of months that would be spent trying on dresses alone ... no way,” she explained when asked if she might take the helm. The choice of 2014 host is a huge decision for the academy. Opinion on Seth Macfarlane was divided, and considering the controversial Family Guy creator was hired to lure a younger audience, it will be interesting to see if a safer choice is made next year, or they decided to push the envelope and get someone even more divisive. Chris Brown anyone? Probably not. Louis C.K. has been talked about recently; he certainly has the talent, but perhaps a comedian with his penchant for the colourful side of English isn’t the best option. Jimmy Kimmel is the safe bet.

We Can Have It All: Farewell To 30 Rock

Tina Fey Alec Baldwin Tracy Morgan Jane Krakowski

Shut it down. That was exactly what 30 Rock did on Thursday, but Liz, Jack and the entire crew definitely went down in style. We’ll try not to spoil any major bits of the most anticipated TV event of 2013 for you, but let’s just say that all of the loose ends were neatly wrapped up – or most of them anyway. We never did learn what Kenneth’s creepy secret was – and he really does have one. Our money is on alien, but now we’ll never know. Liz and Jack’s longstanding friendship had probably the best possible farewell, paying tribute to one of the most entertaining on-screen dynamics of the last decade. Not to mention one of the best written – despite playing off of each other for seven years, the 30 Rock writers have always been clear that this particular pair will never slip into the will-they-won’t-they cliché.

Tina Fey, Amy Poehler Golden Globes Hosting Success Leads To Calls For 2014 Return

Tina Fey Amy Poehler

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s star turn as the host of the Golden Globes last Sunday (January 13) could well – despite one of their own jokes – lead to them returning to run proceedings again next year.

After three years of Ricky Gervais’ grim humor and cold-hearted mickey-taking, the Golden Globes were desperate for a change and former 'Saturday Night Live' partners Fey and Poehler gave them a positive one, dispensing with the jibes but doing so in a good-natured way that quickly got the crowd on side. So, in spite of them quipping “as Ricky found the hard way, when you fall afoul of the Hollywood Foreign Press, they make you host the show two more times”, it looks like they could well be back next year.  The pair roasted Zero Dark Thirty director Kathryn Bigelow, Taylor Swift and Daniel Day-Lewis during their opening speech, but their jokes were taken in good spirit by the three, and the consensus would appear to be that they should come back.

However, according to The Sun Times, there may be one person who could replace them should their schedules not permit their return: Sacha Baron Cohen. “He’s edgy, he’s very funny and he’s a Brit. Seems perfect for the Hollywood Foreign Press,” said an insider who worked with the actor on The Dictator last year. “I hope they get Tina and Amy back, but Sacha wouldn’t be a bad substitute.”

Tina Fey And Amy Poehler's Golden Globes Drinking Game 2013!

Tina Fey Amy Poehler Harvey Weinstein Judi Dench Maggie Smith

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler host the Golden Globes on Sunday (January 13, 2013) and will no doubt bring a touch of Saturday Night Live to one of Hollywood's glitziest evenings. The close friends decided to host the event because - according to Fey - it's "a very kind of sloppy, loud party, and that seemed like our kind of thing." Indeed, it's going to be so sloppy that the hosts have devised their very own drinking game for Sunday drinkers to enjoy.

The Globes is traditionally more raucous than the Oscars. Basically, the organizers want to invite the most famous people available, stick them into a room together and ply them with champagne. Things happen. Mickey Rourke usually gives something his middle finger, Ricky Gervais makes an inappropriate joke as Johnny Depp looks on disapprovingly, despite being in on the joke. Anyway, Fey and Poehler are of the opinion that if they can have a party, then so can we! The pair explained the rules of their drinking game while in conversation with the Hollywood Reporter. So here goes:

-Drink any time an actress cries in a speech

Jessica Chastain stars in the movie, which reunites director Kathryn Bigelow with The Hurt Locker writer Mark Boal. The new trailer promises another exciting, intense military action drama.

Another major awards contender is Tom Hooper's film of the epic musical Les Miserables, with a high-powered cast including Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Eddie Redmayne and Amanda Seyfried. All of them attended the glitzy red carpet world premiere in London this week. The film opens in America on Christmas Day, and in Britain in early January.

Danny DeVito, Christina Aguilera And Jon Bon Jovi Among Superstars Who Show Support For Hurricane Sandy Benefit

America is still rocked by the devastating aftermath of hurricane Sandy, and the thought that 'never would a disaster like this happen to me' seemed to resonate on the faces at the Sandy Benefit Concert on Friday (Nov. 2).

The star power drawn in was impressive, with such entertainers as Bruce Springsteen, Danny Devito and Mary J Blige each pledging their time to the good cause.

Opening the night's proceedings was Staten Island-born Christina Aguilera, who kicked things off with a powerful and stripped down rendition of her song 'Beautiful'. Relying solely on her vocals, Xtina packed a heft punch that delivered all the way home. Next up to perform was New Jersey's Jon Bon Jovi who first gave a shout-out to his hometown of Sayerville, N.J., before re-appropriating his hair-rock hit 'Livin’ On A Prayer' to suit the sombre mood in the studio.

Stars Show Support For Hurricane Sandy: Coming Together Telethon

A Hurricane Sandy: Coming Together Telethon was held last night in the hopes of bringing relief to the millions affected when Hurricane Sandy ripped through the East Coast of America.

NBC aired a commercial-free telethon last night (Nov 2) live from storm-ravaged Staten Island, with Matt Lauer helming the celeb fest that urged viewers across America to pledge what they could and help the millions suffering from the storm.

Christina Aguilera got things started, entering a dark stage and delivering a powerful, stripped down version of ‘Beautiful.’ After the Staten Island native’s performance, a rolling montage of just some of the destruction was played, ending with a still of the once bustling Jersey Shore, after which Jersey native Jon Bon Jovi gave acoustic performances of ‘Who Says You Can’t Go Home’ and ‘Living on a Prayer’ with guitarist Bob Bandiera and Lorenza Ponce on the violin.

Golden Globes Hosts Announced; Ricky Gervais Steps Down From Controversial Routine.

Tina Fey Amy Poehler Ricky Gervais

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are to host the Golden Globes this year as a team effort, reports Bloomberg. But should the candid services of Ricky Gervais have been retained? We’re in two minds.

Takla-O'Reilly, president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, is (obviously) happy with the decision: "The unparalleled comedic timing of Tina and Amy will surely have viewers wanting to tune-in to see them in action," she said. "The HFPA is thrilled to have the magnetic duo be a part of the show's 70th anniversary!" Sure, fine; they’ll be nice and funny, and they won’t offend anyone. But that’s what we’ll miss. Ricky Gervais’ confident, and biting style has become infamous, and it’s something the ceremony will really miss. A classic Golden Ricky Globe was: “Looking at all the wonderful faces here today reminds me of the great work that’s been done this year… by cosmetic surgeons,” he said, to a room of awkward laughter. Perhaps one of his most controversial jokes, though, was this: “I hope I haven’t offended anyone. It’s not my fault [points at his drink]. I like a drink as much as the next man. Unless the next man is Mel Gibson.” Ouch! We thank the Independent for reminding us of those.

"Having both Tina Fey and Amy Poehler on board to host this year's festivities is a major coup," said Paul Telegdy, president of alternative and late night programming at NBC. "Tina and Amy have a proven chemistry and comedic timing from their many years together on 'SNL' to their successful co-starring roles in 'Baby Mama.'" At least they think dropping The Office star was a good idea. The Globes are set to air Jan. 13, three days before the Oscars.
