Last month (Feb15), publishers announced plans to release a sequel to the book, titled Go Set a Watchman, this summer (15), sparking concerns elderly Lee may have been forced into the agreement after going to great lengths to stay out of the public eye for decades.

The 88 year old, who was said to have been in poor health, responded to the reports by issuing a statement to the BBC, writing, "I'm alive and kicking and happy as hell with the reactions to Watchman."

However, one unconvinced critic in her hometown of Monroeville took their concerns to state authorities, prompting officials to launch an inquiry into the claims to determine if Lee was mentally capable to understand the terms of the new publishing deal.

On Thursday (12Mar15), Alabama Securities Commission Director Joseph Borg revealed members of his agency reviewed the matter at the Department of Human Resources' request, but have since closed the case.

He says, "We closed the file. Let's just say that she was able to answer questions we asked to our satisfaction."
