Actor Tom Hanks and his wife, Rita Wilson, have donated $25,000 (£16,670) to America's National Public Radio (Npr).

The Forrest Gump star recently offered up the funds under the condition 750 people sign up to become new members or renew their memberships, according to the National Enquirer.

Hanks emphasised he would retract the donation if the goal was not met.

However, with seconds left to the deadline, the last membership was secured and Hanks made good on his offer.

Npr is a privately and publicly funded non-profit membership media organisation, which boasts 900 radio stations in the U.S.
