Actor-turned-teacher Tony Danza has been forced to relocate his educational reality TV show from New York to Philadelphia - after school board officials vetoed future episodes of the upcoming series.
The former Taxi star, 58, earned a degree in history education from Iowa's University of Dubuque before launching his acting career.
He recently signed with America's A&E network to spend a year teaching 10th grade English at a Yonkers, New York school - where he shot the pilot for his new show Teach.
However, the city’s school board vetoed future episodes, forcing production to move to Philadelphia's Northeast High School, reports People.com.
Philadelphia's School Reform Commission voted 3-1 on Wednesday (19Aug09) to approve the filming of 13 episodes of the show in the new location - and Danza has brushed off the production stumble.
He says, “(I am) humbled, honoured and so grateful that the City of Philadelphia has decided to let us try this. I have always wanted to teach, so this is a gift for me. I will work hard to make sure I don’t let anyone down, especially the kids.”
Philadelphia schools Superintendent Arlene Ackerman adds, “This important project will help illuminate the joy, rewards and challenges of one of the most gratifying professions available, a first-year teacher in the city of Philadelphia.”
The series is scheduled to air this autumn (09).
