Trevor Noah, the brand new presenter of ‘The Daily Show’, is to miss tonight’s episode of the satirical news program after undergoing an emergency appendectomy on Wednesday (November 4th).

The Comedy Central series’ producers have announced that they’ll be broadcasting an encore episode on Wednesday evening in order to give the South African newcomer time to recover from the surgery, but reassured viewers via Twitter that Noah expects to have recovered fully in time for Thursday’s episode.

The brief statement read: “Trevor Noah underwent an emergency appendectomy early this morning. We’re happy to report the procedure went well and he is currently recuperating from the surgery. As a result, ‘The Daily Show’ will air an encore tonight. We expect he and the show will be back with an original episode tomorrow.”

Director David Holbrooke was scheduled to be the main guest for the cancelled episode, with actress Regina King booked for Thursday.

Noah’s tenure on ‘The Daily Show’ began on September 28th, and the reception for his new presenting has been largely positive. Of course, he inherited the post from Jon Stewart, who fronted the weeknight show for 16 years before calling it a day back in August this year.

There was some more cheerful news to brighten the stricken presenter’s day, however, with the announcement that he’ll be getting a stand-up comedy special program on Comedy Central later this month. ‘Trevor Noah: Lost in Translation’ will be broadcast on November 22nd, and will see Noah on the other side of his presenting desk and relying on monologues.

According to the network, the special will see him: “sharing his outlook on the world today, including terrorism, racial tensions in America and what it was like being African and traveling into the United States during the Ebola crisis.”
