Prison Letter Reveals Tupac Shakur Broke Up With Madonna Because Of Her Race

Madonna Tupac Shakur

Madonna grabbed headlines by revealing back in 2015 that she had briefly dated Tupac Shakur – but a new letter written by the late rapper shows that things were a lot deeper between them than people suspected, revealing that he dumped the singer because of the colour of her skin.

Sections of a previously unseen letter written to Madonna by Tupac while he was in jail in 1995 that is due to be auctioned off by Gotta Have Rock and Roll later this month, with a starting bid of $100,000, were published by TMZ on Wednesday (July 5th).

Broadway: Urban Rap Musical Inspired By The Lyrics And Poetry Of Tupac Shakur Closes

Tupac Shakur

The musical “Holler If Ya Hear Me” is being pulled from Broadway less than one month after the show’s official opening at the Palace Theatre. Poor reviews, a terrible box and no real plan for the future of the production has seen it become an early casualty of the season.

To put the financial side of things into perspective: the show never reached $200k in its six weeks - hit shows on Broadway gross more than $1 million a week on the regular, with blockbusters like "The Lion King" and "Wicked" often exceeding $2 million without breaking a sweat. In comparison, HIYHM is one of the worst-selling musicals in recent years. The New York Times reports it grossed $154,948 last week, which only 17% of its potential.

Tupac Shakur's Final Words Were 'F**k You,' Other Famous Last Words

Tupac Shakur John Lennon Humphrey Bogart

The dying words of rapper Tupac Shakur have been revealed, 18 years after his death. The words were spoken to sergeant Chris Carroll, the policeman who questioned Shakur on the scene after the fatal shooting on September 7, 1996. Carroll told how he found the rapper, “covered with blood” and proceeded to try and find out what had happened: “So I’m looking at Tupac…I’m asking him, ‘Who shot you? What happened? Who did it?’ And he was just kind of ignoring me…All of a sudden in the snap of a finger, he changed…An ‘I’m at peace’ type of thing. When he made that transition, he looked at me, and he’s looking me right in the eye.”

Tupac Famous Last Words Tupac's last words were his final act of defiance against the police

So, what profundity did Tupac, the voice of a generation, a rapper capable of penning poetic and poignant lyrics, have to say as his final words? Carroll continued, “That’s when I looked at him and said one more time, ‘Who shot you?’ He looked at me and he took and breath…then the words came out: ‘F**k you’.” And with his final act of defiance towards the police, the rapper died.

Tupac Shakur Biopic Green-Lit, But Will We Actually See It?

Tupac Shakur

Tupac Shakur may have been dead for the past 17 years, but his legacy has, if anything, only risen since he was gunned down in 1996. It has seemed that, ever since that fateful day, there have been rumours and rousing that Hollywood were working on turning the life of 2Pac into a feature length film, and now it looks like we may finally get to see the long-discussed biopic.

Tupac
2Pac's life has long been expected to be made into a film

On Thursday, 19 September, it was confirmed that Morgan Creek Productions and Emmet Furla Films had agreed to co-finance the film, with Shakur's mother, Afeni Shakur, signed on to executive produce. According to the Los Angeles Times, direct-to-DVD crime drama Street Kings II writers Eddie Gonzales and Jeremy Haft are already working on a script, and with Shakur's mother on board, this could finally be the 2Pac biopic that actually makes it past the pre-production stage. Previous attempts to bring Shakur's life to the screen have all fallen apart due to difficulties in negotiating creative control between producers and Shakur's mother.

The Latest In A Line Of Biopics, A Tupac Shakur Movie Will Be Produced In 2014

Tupac Shakur

Biopics are all the rage this year – after one about Diana, an upcoming film about the life of classic Hollywood actress Grace Kelly and a pair of otherwise unrelated films about Nelson and Winnie Mandela, Tupac Shakur is apparently next on the chopping block. According to the LA Times, Morgan Creek Productions and Emmet Furla Films announced yesterday that they plan to co-finance and co-produce the film - which will be entitled Tupac.

Tupac Shakur Impersonator, Las Vegas
Tupac impersonators have popped up all over the world.

The news outlet also reports that the movie is set to be filmed in Atlanta next year - with Tupac's mother Afeni Shakur as an executive producer. It seems that, unlike the producers of other biographical movies this year (*cough* Diana *cough*) Morgan Creek and Emmet Furla are really going for authenticity on this one. It also looks like the already legendary status of the late Shakur has been elevated even further this year.

Does Anyone Still Believe Suge Knight Killed Tupac Shakur?

Suge Knight Tupac Shakur The Notorious B.I.G

Another year, another Suge Knight arrested story huh? This time, the founder of Death Row Records was stopped shortly before midnight in Los Angeles on Wednesday (September 11, 2013) on an outstanding warrant.

According to the Associated Press, police officer Sara Faden said the mogul was stopped on a traffic violation though was already wanted on a misdemeanour warrant. Cops took him into custody before he was released several hours later on $20,000 bail.

A warrant was issued for Knight's arrest in February after he skipped a court appearance for driving with a license. The notorious CEO - who helped make stars of rappers Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur - filed for bankruptcy in 2006 and experienced countless legal problems over the past couple of decades.

J. Cole's 'Born Sinner' No.1 On Billboard 200 Chart

J. Cole Kanye West Wale Tupac Shakur Jay Z Rihanna

J. Cole's sophomore album Born Sinner has shot to the top of the Billboard 200 album chart after its release on 18th June 2013. According to Billboard, a case such as J. Cole's - where an album climbs to the top as opposed to debuting at No.1 - is rare due to most titles enjoying their best sales weeks during their debut frame and struggle to maintain momentum to compete with newer albums. Ever since Nielsen SoundScan started analysing the chart in 1991, there have been 583 albums to reached No. 1. Of those, only 13% (76 records) did not debut at No. 1 - J Cole's Born Sinner is now one of the few to do so. However, this is the sixth smallest selling week ever in SoundScan's records with just 58,000 sold to claim the top spot.

The 28 year-old North Carolinan tweeted his excitement and thanked his fans for helping him get to No.1: "3 weeks later. #1 Album in the country. Born Sinner. Thank You." According to USA Today, after its release Born Sinner had to contend with spending its first fortnight at No. 2, first behind Kanye West's Yeezus and then Wale's The Gifted then overtook the other two rappers after selling 58,000 in its third week. It has now sold 439,000 copies surpassing Yeezus' 431,000. The Gifted was No. 2 this week with 50,000 followed by Yeezus with 39,000,

Tupac Shakur To Be Awarded Post-Humous Star On Hollywood Walk Of Fame

Tupac Shakur Katy Perry Rick Springfield

The late Tupac Shakur and political commentator Tavis Smiley are among the list of people set to become the next stars honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, with the two being nominated to receive stars on the world-famous stretch of sidewalk in 2014.

It has been 17 years since the rapper, actor and political activist Tupac was gunned down in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas on September 7 1996, dying from his woulds six days later, and since then Shakur has received an almost demi-God like status within the entertainment industry. His cult-like status within modern society actually makes his entry into the Walk of Fame a little surprising actually, as it should have come much earlier.

2Pac, as his name is often stylised, will receive his award for his recording career, which began when he first laid down vocals for Digital Underground's 1991 single 'Same Song,' a band that he had toured with as a roadie and back-up dancer prior to moving into the studio and then on to his solo career. Smiley, who most will know for his liberal talk shows, will recevie his award in recognition of his television work.

Rick Ross Advised To Take "Lots And Lots Of Security" After Shooting

Rick Ross Tupac Shakur The Notorious B.I.G

Miami rapper Rick Ross was the target of a drive-by shooting Florida on Monday (January 28, 2013), narrowly escaping the attack but not before crashing his car into a nearby apartment block. Detectives are on the hunt for the perpetrator though in the meantime, Ross has been advised to bulk up on security. Though it's entirely possible it was a random attack, there's also the belief that somebody out there wants the rapper dead.

"I think the next step for Ross to take is security. Lots and lots of security," he said. "There is no shame in having security depending on your level of celebrity. Certain artists just can't do things that regular people can do," said Brian B. Dot Miller of RapRadar.com. Hip-hop music has been marred by violence in the past - leading to the deaths of Tupac Shakur and Notorious BIG - and it almost became all too real again on Monday. "I think this is a sad day for hip-hop because a lot of times we all partake in the entertainment of it, without realizing that hip-hop was always built on the foundation of realness and keeping it real," said Kim Osorio, editor in chief of The Source magazine.

Fort Lauderdale police have confirmed that Ross was driving his silver Rolls Royce when the shooting occurred at 5am near the intersection of Southwest 15th Avenue and East Las Olas Boulevard.

What, No Holograms? Stone Roses, Blur, Phoenix, Red Hot Chili Peppers Headline Coachella 2013

Coachella Blur Stone Roses Yeah Yeah Yeahs Modest Mouse Lou Reed Jurassic 5 Phoenix The XX New Order Nick Cave Grinderman Wu Tang Clan Social Distortion Tupac Shakur

How do you top having a dead man headline your festival? Well, in all honestly, you’re not going to. Coachella’s talent bookers must have been scratching their heads in bewilderment when it came to topping last year’s Tupac hologram and they’ve done the best they can, given the lack of deceased artists willing and able to play Coachella 2013.

The two Friday nights (the festival takes place both on April 12 – 14 and April 19 – 21) are looking like a highlight for fans of the Britpop revival, with Blur and Stone Roses lending a very British end to the evening. A newly invigorated Yeah Yeah Yeahs (well, Karen O’s dyed her hair blonde, does that count?) also play the Friday, as well as Modest Mouse, Lou Reed and Jurassic 5. Saturday has the French band Phoenix headlining, in support of their recently-announced new album. They’ll be preceded by British electronic gloom-pop band The XX, as well as Postal Service and New Order. The line-up for the Sunday nights is a slightly heavier one, with Red Hot Chili Peppers headlining, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds making yet another return (Cave will be raking it in that weekend, as his other band Grinderman also play the Fridays), Social Distortion and Wu Tang Clan.

Coachella always has an impressive array of legendary / stalwart alternative acts as well as the hottest new bands you’ve only just heard of. What they haven’t got, is anything that’s going to grab the headlines, or the public’s attention in the same way that Tupac’s hologram did.

LAPD Issue Apology To Family Of Notorious BIG Over Autopsy Statement Release

The Notorious B.I.G Tupac Shakur

Last week, after fifteen years in police custody, the autopsy report into the death of the late rapper the Notorious BIG was made public for the first time. Now, the Los Angeles Police Department have issued an apology to the family of Biggie Smalls, real name Christopher Wallace, after it emerged that they were unaware and unwilling to have the details made public in the first place.

Biggie's family were allegedly unaware that the medical report detailing the rapper's cause of death in 1997 was set to be made public last week, and as you can imagine they were less than happy when such intimate details were laid bare for all to see. LAPD had allegedly intended to notify the rapper's family about the unveiling, but according to a public statement released yesterday (Dec 8) the report was released prematurely "due to an administrative error."

The report revealed that Wallace was shot multiple times, however it was one fatal shot his heart, left lung and colon that caused his death. The report also reveals that at the time of his death the rapper was not under the influence of either drugs nor alcohol.

Notorious B.I.G. Autopsy Report Unveiled To The Public For First Time

The Notorious B.I.G Tupac Shakur

Rap icon The Notorious B.I.G. has had new light shone on to his death after a police autopsy report gave new insight into his death by drive-by shooting fifteen years ago, revealing the trajectory of the bullets which ended his life.

Whilst this new information may offer some solace to some fans, Biggie's family are up in arms about the revelation as they were assured that the case had been solved, however now it seems as though police are still without a lead despite a decade and a half worth of investigations. The family's lawyer, Perry Sanders, issued a statement to AFP on Friday to lament that nobody has been arrested over the 1997 killing, despite the fact that police assured the family that the unknown assailant had been captured.

Sanders told AFP in an emailed statement, "The family has been advised that the murder has been solved, and they are hurt and disgusted by the fact that no one has been arrested. This is a horrible miscarriage of justice."

Notorious BIG Post-Mortem Unveils New Details Into Unsolved Shooting

The Notorious B.I.G Tupac Shakur

Fifteen years after he was shot down, information on a post-mortem that has been kept private until now has revealed new information on the late rapper the Notorious BIG has been made public for the first time.

The new information into the death of Biggie Smalls reveals that he died when a single bullet pierced his left lung, heart and colon - of course this new information fails to give any insight into who Biggie's unknown assailant is. The 23-page document also confirms that no drugs nor alcohol were present in his body at the time of his death as well as detailing the trajectory of the shots that hit him.

The unsolved case has been the centre of controversy ever since the homicide was committed, which at the time prompted a nationwide manhunt from police and federal agents. Numerous conspiracy theories having sprung up about the death of the rapper, real name Christopher Wallace, including many linking his death with fellow rapper Tupac Shakur's death. One such theory suggests their deaths were engineered by Death Row Records co-founder Marion ‘Suge’ Knight in order to appear as the result of a fictitious feud between the two, although songs like 'Who Shot Ya' and 'Hit Em Up' would suggest the feud wasn't exactly fictitious.

Chris Brown Claims Only Tupac Shakur Can Understand Him. Sigh.

Chris Brown Tupac Shakur

Perhaps we've all missed the point with Chris Brown. Maybe we're giving him too much of a hard time. The man himself sure thinks so, claiming there's only one person who can understand why he does the things he does. That man just so happens to be the deceased rapper Tupac Shakur.

You'll have heard by now about Brown's bust-up with Jenny Johnson on Twitter, after which he deleted his profile. It was a pretty intense exchange, which culminated in Brown telling the television personality he wanted to defecate on her eye. Nice. Anyway, he's still got his trusty Instagram profile and has been busy posting pictures of himself on his European tour and making various ridiculous statements. On Tuesday (November 27, 2012), he posted an image of Tupac with the caption, "That awkward moment when the only person you can relate to in the world is dead." We're not quite why Brown thinks he would have bonded with Tupac, given that the legendary rapper would have almost certainly despised him.

Brown's love affair with the Harlem superstar goes back years. In 2007, he told MTV News, "I'm trying to be the R&B Tupac.I'm trying to make as many records as I can so when I'm out of this world, y'all can still have music from me nobody has heard yet."
