Legendary model Twiggy is urging pet lovers to adopt greyhounds after discovering an animal charity in the U.K. has more than 1,000 retired running dogs in its kennels.
The fashion star-turned-TV personality is throwing her support behind Britain's Retired Greyhound Trust after hearing the animals are one of the least likely dogs to be adopted by owners.
And she's calling on pooch fans to pick up a greyhound, insisting they are not speed-hungry racers.
She says, "Greyhounds make fantastic pets. They undergo a transformation when they leave the track. They turn from speed machines to docile couch potatoes. I am devastated to hear about the Trust's struggle. I would urge anyone who is considering a dog to think greyhounds."
