Twiggy has been named the latest brand ambassador for L'Oréal Professionnel.

The blonde beauty - who rose to fame as a model in the 60s with her trademark pixie cut - admitted she is ''delighted'' with her new title and is hoping to inspire women to have more confidence in their looks.

She said: ''I am absolutely delighted to become a L'Oréal Professionnel brand ambassador, I truly believe in the skill of the professional hairdresser and am so proud to represent the brand. My hair has always been important to me and has been a big part of my image throughout the years. I hope to inspire women to be confident in their personal style and never be afraid of trying something new.''

Twiggy - whose real name is Lesley Lawson - joins existing ambassadors Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Blake Lively, and will front the brand's Professionnel line of hair products.

The 65-year-old model added hair care is a vital part of her beauty regime as she only feels ''complete'' when she has had her locks perfectly coiffured.

She explained: ''My hair is a really important part of me, I always feel more complete when I've just been to the salon, my colour is fresh and beautifully styled. I only trust my colourist to get my blonde just right.''

Twiggy - who has graced the covers of fashion bibles Vogue and Elle in the past - has also been the face of cosmetics brand Olay and after fronting a campaign for Marks and Spencer in 2005, she started designing her own collections for the department store.
