Various motion picture business and labor groups in Italy are threatening some sort of protest on July 25 at this year's announcement of the films selected to be screened at the Venice Film Festival, the Hollywood Reporter said today (Monday). Announcement of the protest comes following a government pronouncement that it will halt annual tax credits to producers when the program expires at the end of 2014. The Reporter said that it had received word from a member of one of the organizations that will be involved in the protest that they are planning to block the announcement of the Venice selections unless the government takes appropriate measures to stop the tax-incentive program from expiring.
