Willis, the original lead singer of the Village People and the writer of the group's biggest hits, has announced tracks like Y.M.C.A. will disappear as a stream, revealing he has made royalty payments of only a few thousand dollars even though the songs have been streamed millions of times.

He tells WENN, "I think the business model for these streaming services is bad for artists but good for the music streaming companies' bottom line. Why should I continue to license Y.M.C.A. to them for the micro-royalties they pay? I'd rather withhold all of my music until they figure out how to make it worth my while."

A spokeswoman for Willis admits the disco star is interested in allowing Jay Z to stream his music on the rap mogul's new service Tidal, adding, "Victor Willis will consider licensing his Village People catalogue to Jay Z's new service, including the iconic Y.M.C.A., but it would depend on the type of deal. Tidal will need some great classic songs as part of its roster and Y.M.C.A. would be a good way to make some in roads."
