Fast and Furious 6

The big cinematic event this week was the world premiere in London of Fast & Furious 6, which brought the film's stars out on the red carpet. With the city in the background, Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Paul Walker and Jordana Brewster talked to the cameras about the action series and its surprisingly sustained popularity. Set in Europe and billed as the biggest yet in the franchise, the sixth film opens next week in the UK and the following week in the US. And production on part 7 is already underway.

Also this week, Hugh Jackman participated in a global interview via Twitter to talk about his upcoming action movie The Wolverine, which comes out in July. As fans sent in questions, he replied with details about the film, his gruelling preparation to play the muscle-bound X-man and how much he enjoys playing the "toughest guy in the yard". His answers were caught on video.

Star Trek Into Darkness

There are huge blockbusters opening this weekend in the UK and the US, then swapping the other way around next week. British audiences can now see J.J. Abram's sequel Star Trek Into Darkness, which has had great reviews from most critics. The film's stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Zachary Quinto spoke to Contactmusic about their roles.

Meanwhile in America, audiences are queuing up for Baz Luhrmann's spectacular-looking 3D version of The Great Gatsby, which has had mixed to positive reviews. Luhrmann and his stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire spoke to press at the film's New York premiere. And they're now heading to the South of France, where the film opens the Cannes Film Festival next Wednesday.

Other movies opening in Britain this weekend include Matthew McConaughey's Arkansas river drama Mud, Eric Bana and Olivia Wilde in the snowy thriller Deadfall and the award-winning Belgian drama Our Children starring Emilie Dequenne and Tahar Rahim. Meanwhile, America is finally getting a chance to see British filmmaker Ben Wheatley's award-winning Sightseers.

And finally, we had our first glimpse this week of the hilarious-looking The World's End, the third British comedy teaming Simon Pegg and Nick Frost with director Edgar Wright, after Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. In this one, Pegg and Frost costar with A-list Brits Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine and Eddie Marsan as old pals trying to recreate an epic pub crawl from their youth. Then things turn apocalyptic. It opens in July in the UK and October in the US.
