Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan isn't a robot, and he, like us, is just as likely to fret and wonder about the lives of the characters he created for the smash-hit AMC series after the final credits rolled. Can Skyler ever move on? Does Walter Jr. ever come to terms with what his dad has done? Does Saul make a clean break? He's played with all the ideas, but none more so than what might happen to the loveable rogue Jesse Pinkman.

Jesse and Walt
Jesse (Aaron Paul) and Walt (Bryan Cranston) met different ends when the series finished

Pinkman's (Aaron Paul) exit from the show was much more triumphant than Walter White's (Bryan Cranston), but did life get any easier for him after racing away from his meth-lab prison? We've all thought about it and so has Gilligan. In the latest issue of GQ magazine, the show's creator hoped that Jesse would make a clean break, but admitted that in all actuality, he was more likely to meet a tragic end than a happy one.

See the brilliant alternative ending for Breaking Bad

"My personal feeling is that he got away," Gilligan began, before admitting that a worse case scenario was the more likely outcome. "But the most likely thing, as negative as this sounds, is that they're going to find this kid's fingerprints all over this lab and they're going to find him within a day or a week or a month. And he's still going to be on the hook for the murder of two federal agents. But yeah, even though that's the most likely outcome, the way I see it is that he got away and got to Alaska, changed his name, and had a new life. You want that for the kid. He deserves it."

"Of all the things we discussed, I don't know that we ever talked it through," Gilligan continued, this time pondering the alternative fate of Walter, had he not taken a bullet. "I know that in our minds, he definitely went there to kill Jesse along with everybody else. If I had to guess, it was like, 'The cops aren't going to take me, no matter what. I'm probably going to get killed in the midst of this. I may have to shoot it out with any survivors,' or who knows what..."

What can we expect from BB spin-off Better Call Saul?
