Walt Disney Pictures have been having a field day with the amount of fairytale re-makes and endless sequels being released and announced recently. No doubt one of the most prestigious film companies in Hollywood, being nearly 100 years old, the unit and its studio parent Walt Disney Studios are responsible for some of the greatest classics ever produced - but what can we expect on our screens in the next 5 or so years?

The Jungle BookThe Jungle Book is set for release next year

Everyone's excited to see Emma Watson and Dan Stevens in the 2017 live action re-make of 'Beauty and the Beast', and we've already received a teaser for Jon Favreau's 'The Jungle Book' starring Scarlett Johansson, Idris Elba and Bill Murray. But did you know Disney are also re-launching the likes of 'Mary Poppins', 'Winnie The Pooh', and 'Pinocchio' with a script from Peter Hedges? As for sequels, 'Toy Story 4' is a no-brainer, and 'The Incredibles 2' and 'Frozen 2' already have a buzz about them, but what about 'Wreck-It Ralph 2', 'National Treasure 3' and 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales'?

Here's some more upcoming Disney films you might not have heard about:

Dumbo - Everyone's favourite cartoon elephant will return to our screens as a live action epic. Announced in 2014, the re-boot is to be directed by the Oscar nominated genius behind 'Edward Scissorhands' and 'Alice In Wonderland'. Tim Burton will be joined by screenwriter Ehren Kruger, who's responsible for bringing us 'The Brothers Grimm' and 'The Ring'.

Mulan - Originally, Disney were planning a live action re-make of this feminist-charged Chinese tale with Zhang Ziyi as the lead character, with direction from Chuck Russell. The scheduled filming for that project was subsequently cancelled, but there's no word yet on whether they're on board with producers Chris Bender and J.C. Spink for the new plan.

The Sword in the Stone - The live action version of Arthurian legend 'The Sword in the Stone' has a tentative release date of October 2018, and so far all we know is that Bryan Cogman is penning the script and Brigham Taylor is among the producers. Primetime Emmy winning Cogman is an appropriate choice too, given his work on 'Game of Thrones'.

The Haunted Mansion - This 2003 spooky family comedy was hardly one of Disney's masterpieces, but nonetheless its return is an exciting one. This time, Guillermo del Toro is working on it - and if anyone can perfect a ghost story, it's the 'Pan's Labyrinth' director.

Pete's Dragon - Yep, this iconic 1977 movie is coming back as well in the summer of 2016 with Bryce Dallas Howard and Robert Redford in starring roles. Directed by David Lowery, the movie is really aiming to evoke some serious nostalgia. 'We shot it in New Zealand and it was really profound and it brought me back to my own childhood', Bryce Dallas Howard told reporters at the D23 Expo.

Finding Dory - It's been 12 years since the release of 'Finding Nemo' and we've been waiting just as long for a follow-up. Luckily, you won't have to wait much longer because 'Finding Dory' is coming in 2016, exploring a little more about the ocean's most adorably forgetful fish. Plus, there's loads of awesome new cast additions like Idris Elba and Dominic West, not to mention Ed O'Neill. '[I play] an octopus named Hank who was born into captivity and is kind of a grumpy, anti-social octopus', says O'Neill.

Alice Through The Looking Glass - Tim Burton returns for the 'Alice In Wonderland' sequel 'Alice Through the Looking Glass', though this time only as a producer. It will be directed by James Bobin ('Muppets Most Wanted') but will see the return of much of the cast from the 2010 movie. 'Most of the characters from the first film are back; the Mad Hatter, the Red Queen, the White Queen', lead actress Mia Wasikowska explains. 'Then there's also Sacha Baron Cohen [who] plays the new character Time.'

Tribyville - James Bobin will also direct and write upcoming period musical 'Tribyville'. In fact, that's all we know about the film; that it's a period musical. We do know, however, that the production team includes Will Ferrell and Adam McKay.

Maleficient 2 - It's happening! The plot is so far very much under wraps of course, and we've no idea when to expect the new film but Linda Woolverton has returned to pen the script (the busy woman is also doing 'Beauty and the Beast' and 'Alice Through the Looking Glass') and we'll no doubt see Angelina Jolie again.

Cruella - Following that villain-as-main-character formula, we'll be seeing a spin-off of '101 Dalmations' focusing on puppy snatcher Cruella de Vil. Though there's very little to go on at the moment, reports suggest Aline Brosh McKenna will pen the script and Andrew Gunn will produce alongside executive producer Glenn Close, the actress who played the original villain in the 1996 live action flick.

Gigantic - An animated epic based on the story of 'Jack and The Beanstalk', 'Gigantic' is produced by Dorothy McKim and directed by 'Tangled''s Nathan Greno. It will be set in Spain and sees Jack befriending a giant 11-year-old girl named Inma who needs to find her way home. 'We're looking to make the definitive version of Jack and the Beanstalk', says Greno. 'You need to take the original story, the iconic imagery, but you're going to have to put a lot of twists and turns within that.'

The BFG - Whilst we're on the subject of giants, a live action version of Roald Dahl's much-loved tale 'The BFG' is due next year, with none other Steven Spielberg at the helm. Tony award winner Mark Rylance will play the title role, and he'll be joined by Rebecca Hall, Jemaine Clement and Bill Hader. 'The fact that Steven is bringing one of my grandfather's best-loved stories and characters to the big screen in the middle of the year in which we will celebrate Roald Dahl's Centenary is fantastic', says grandson Luke Kelly.

Genies - Interestingly enough, the 'Aladdin' directors don't appear to be on board for the forthcoming prequel 'Genies', which no doubt explores the world of magic lamp dwellers. Damian Shannon and Mark Swift are on to pen the script, with Tripp Vinson producing, and it will actually pre-empt a live action 'Aladdin' re-make.

Moana - A Polynesian tale about a young girl who becomes separated from her family and enlists the help of a demi-god named Maui to help her find them, this film stars Dwayne Johnson, Alan Tudyk and up-and-coming star Auli'i Cravalho. This sun-soaked animated sensation set for release in December 2016 is directed by classic Disney veterans Ron Clements and John Musker, who also did 'Hercules', 'Aladdin' and 'The Little Mermaid'.

The Night on Bald Mountain - Based on the final segment of 1940 film 'Fantasia' which featured an arrangement by Modest Mussorgsky, 'The Night on Bald Mountain' will be extended into a live action feature length movie with a screenplay penned by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless ('The Last Witch Hunter', 'Dracula Untold').

The Water Man - The screenwriting debut of Emma Needell, this movie is based on a young boy named Gunner who's attempting to save his mother who is very sick by visiting a mythical shaman called The Water Man. It's actually technically still in talks, but if approved it will be produced by Oprah Winfrey and David Oyelowo.

Artemis Fowl - The popular teen sci-fi novel series by Eoin Colfer is finally being given a feature movie, though plans have been up in the air since the first book arrived in 2001. The latest reports suggest that 'Cinderella' director Kenneth Branagh will be at the helm, with Irish playwright Conor McPherson penning the script. The story blends crime with fantasy, following a young criminal who abducts a fairy and holds her to ransom.

Something Wicked This Way Comes - Based on the Ray Bradbury fantasy horror novel, Seth Grahame-Smith is penning the script for 'Something Wicked This Way Comes'; a movie that will hopefully do a lot better than its 1983 predecessor. It follows the story of two boys and their terrifying run-in with a travelling carnival led by the macabre Mr. Dark and will be released in 2017. Meanwhile, check out Grahame-Smith's more imminent movie 'Pride and Prejudice and Zombies'.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - You might be eagerly awaiting the forthcoming 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens', out this December, but did you know that the new year brings with it a new story for the franchise? Directed by Gareth Edwards, who helmed 2014's 'Godzilla', the new movie will star Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen and Forest Whitaker. We're not awash with information about it, but we do know that it's set in between episodes III and IV and sees the rebels on a mission to obtain the Death Star plans. It's also the first in the stand-alone Star Wars Anthology series and will be followed up by an as-yet-untitled film based on Han Solo in 2018.

Additionally, there's at least four more untitled live-action fairy tale films in the works, plus one based on Prince Charming and a movie called 'Happily Ever After'. There's also plans for a live-action Chip 'n Dale film, as well as a sequel to 'Oz the Great and Powerful'!
