Walton Goggins Teases Villainous Role In New 'Tomb Raider' Movie

Walton Goggins

This year, Lara Croft will be making her return to the big screen in a brand new 'Tomb Raider' movie, from director Roar Uthaug. As the third adaptation for the video game franchise, but with a brand new actress - Alicia Vikander - taking on the lead role, the film will serve as a reboot for the series in the cinematic world, and fans are getting increasingly excited about what's coming their way.

Tackling Croft's origin story and basing its narrative off the critically-acclaimed 2013 video game, 'Tomb Raider' will see Lara attempting to put together the pieces of her father's mysterious death, whilst going up against the villainous Mathias Vogel, played by Walton Goggins. The pair will do battle whilst trying to find a tomb that has been hidden for years, and which Vogel has been trying to unearth for the past seven years.

Tomb Raider [2018] Trailer

Lara Croft (Alicia Vikander) appears to be just an ordinary 21-year-old girl living in East London, making money as a bike courier, and missing her father Lord Richard Croft (Dominic West) terribly. He went missing while on an archaeological adventure many years ago, and she's desperate to go find the place where he disappeared. She can hardly focus on her college courses, and she certainly refuses to take hold of her father's business empire.

She's handy with a variety of weapons, and while she might just look like a young girl, she can handle herself better than most people. Despite all the warnings she receives against the trip, she is totally ready for a death-defying voyage across oceans and tropical continents to seek out a mysterious island where she'll need more than her strength and archery ability to stay alive. There are enigmas to solve if she wants to get to the bottom of a terrifying conspiracy that her father discovered before he vanished.

Alicia remembers being just 8-years-old when she first discovered the 'Tomb Raider' video games. It was the first time she had seen a female doing the dangerous work in a game, and ever since she started acting she's wanted to be at the head of a major action franchise. Indeed, this particular movie has really given her the chance to push herself to the extreme, and her training has seriously impressed the cast and crew of the movie.

The Hateful Eight Trailer

John Ruth, known by his associates and like-minded peers as The Hangman on account of his fondness for hanging criminals, is a formidable bounty hunter on his way to Red Rock with a suspected murderer named Daisy Domergue. Along the way, they bump into another brutal bounty hunter named Major Marquis Warren who wastes no time in informing Daisy of her captor's uniquely vicious reputation, and they also pick up self-proclaimed new sheriff of Red Rock Chris Mannix. It's a bitter winter and soon a furious blizzard threatens to engulf them and their stagecoach. Thus, they decide to seek shelter at a small place on a mountain pass called Minnie's Haberdashery, which is currently playing host to caretaker Bob, Red Rock's own hangman Oswaldo Mobray, a ranch hand named Joe Gage and former Confederacy general Sandy Smithers. Unfortunately, the bounty hunters are not the only volatile ones at the haberdashery, and it seems some lethal mounting deception is threatening to bury them well before the storm.

We're Shivering In Excitement For Quentin Tarantino's Winter Western 'The Hateful Eight' [Trailer + Pictures]

Guns, violence, cool outfits and immeasurable cheese is everything that Quentin Tarantino is about, so fans have been waiting for a good old Western flick from him for a long time. Now we can rejoice because his eighth movie, 'The Hateful Eight', brings us just that, complete with shoot-outs, stetsons, suspicion - and a helluva lotta snow.

Samuel L. Jackson in The Hateful EightSamuel L. Jackson is as formidable as ever in 'The Hateful Eight'

Tarantino touched on the Western genre with 2012's 'Django Unchained', of course, but that was more about illicit slavery than country outlaws; there's usually humour to the Oscar winning director's work despite the shameless brutality of it, but 'Django' gave us something serious to think about. 'The Hateful Eight' is just plain enjoyable, bounty hunter, sweary (thanks to Samuel L. Jackson) fun, that everyone should be excited for come winter.

'The Hateful Eight': This Is What A Tarantino Western Looks Like [Pictures]

In case it wasn't clear already, Quentin Tarantino loves movies. He's talked on many occasions about his love for the Spaghetti-Western genre, which has led many people to wonder what a Tarantino-directed Spaghetti-Western would look like. Sure, we had 2012's 'Django Unchained' to give us a brief glimpse at the idea, but that was racial revenge story first, and a Western second. When Tarantino announced his 8th film, 'The Hateful Eight', back in November 2013, fans worldwide jumped for joy.

A jump that may have been a little premature, as the project was cancelled in January 2014, after the script for the highly anticipated picture was leaked online. Tarantino talked about rereleasing the screenplay as a novel, before going back and deciding to give the film one last shot. Production began in January 2015, and now we have some of the first pictures from the set of the new film.

Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight: Who's Playing Who?

Quentin Tarantino Samuel L Jackson Tim Roth Walton Goggins Amber Tamblyn James Remar

Quentin Tarantino recently hosted a live read through of the screenplay for his latest film The Hateful Eight, which by many accounts heralds in a return to the earlier work in the oeuvre of the claustrophobic Reservoir Dogs rather than the grand-scale theatrics of such recent work as Django Unchained.

Tarantino Gives SpeechThe filmmaker has been elusive about whether The Hateful Eight would ever get made.

The read through itself came as a response to the actions of alternative news website Gawker, who published a link to an online copy of Tarantino’s screenplay for the film. Suitably enraged, the pop-culture infatuated auteur not only sued the website but also threatened to postpone the film indefinitely. Thankfully, Tarantino’s rational irritation has subsided, and his official read through also saw the first reveal of the film’s impressive cast in the hope of offsetting a host of rumours and hear-say surrounding the film.

Django Unchained Review

Excellent

Tarantino takes an unusually comical approach to a provocative topic, and the result is as controversial as expected. And also startlingly hilarious. At its core, this is another revenge-themed thriller, but Tarantino's snappy, constantly surprising aproach spirals out to explore racial issues over the past 150 years with humour, drama and, of course, grisly violence.

Set two years before the American Civil War in 1858 Texas, the story centres on bounty hunter Schultz (Waltz), who offers the slave Django (Foxx) what seems like a fantasy job: to work with him to capture white criminals dead or alive. Usually dead. Sure enough, everyone is shocked to see a black man not only riding a horse but carrying a gun. When Django helps find three notorious outlaw brothers, he earns his freedom, and Schultz then offers to help free Django's enslaved wife (Washington). This involves staging an elaborate sting on her owner, the bloodthirsty Mississippi plantation owner Calvin (DiCaprio), who runs a ring of slaves who fight each other to the death. But Calvin's butler Stephen (Jackson) suspects that something is up.

Waltz and Foxx have terrific chemistry in the central roles, with Waltz's lively intelligence bouncing off Foxx's physical and emotional intensity. This gives the film an underlying drive that keeps us engaged through the blood-soaked violence as well as the more slapstick-style sequences (a KKK raid led by Johnson and Hill feels like a lost sequence from Blazing Saddles). But Tarantino's screenplay is beautifully constructed to even out the tone with exciting action, harrowing nastiness and some darkly involving drama. All while quietly exploring the twisted history of racial relations in America.
