Woody Harrelson Star Wars

Details of plot points and character arcs for upcoming Star Wars projects are more closely guarded than most heads of state at this moment in time, but actor Woody Harrelson was able to release a sliver of information on the character he’s going to play in the forthcoming Han Solo movie.

The 55 year old star is travelling to London in the next few weeks to film his part in the project, currently untitled and with a vaunted release date for 2018. However, he stopped by Wednesday night’s edition of ‘The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon’ to reveal some tiny details of the identity of his character and what he might be involved in.

Woody Harrelson: 'Laura Dern Is An Incredible Actress'

Woody Harrelson Laura Dern

It's always a good experience for an actor when they get to meet another actor who they have so much chemistry with, and especially when they get to see them at work first hand. Woody Harrelson was mindblown by co-star Laura Dern on the set of Craig Johnson's 'Wilson'.

Woody HarrelsonWoody Harrelson admires the talents of Laura Dern

Harrelson plays the titular lead character; an overly honest and neurotic man who talks to strangers a lot to overcome his loneliness. He's been a broken man ever since his wife Pippi (played by Laura Dern) left him 17 years previously, but finds new hope when he discovers that he may have a secret daughter who was put into foster care.

There's Only One Person Laura Dern Loves More Than Woody Harrelson

Laura Dern Woody Harrelson

At the Sundance Film Festival premiere of her latest film Wilson, in which she stars opposite Woody Harrelson in a drama about broken families, Laura Dern spoke about the “amazing” time she had on set – not just him, but his wife too!

“I mean, we worship each other! In every single way! I love him so much, I really had the most amazing time,” she said exclusively to us. “As I said to him – there’s only one person on the planet I worship more than you, and it’s your wife Laura [Louie]! She’s the most amazing person, we had basically a summer vacation together!”

In Wilson, an adaptation of Daniel Clowes’ novel, Harrelson plays a neurotic middle-aged who reunites with his estranged wife (Dern), and who meets his now-teenage daughter for the first time in the process (played by Isabella Amara).

Charlie Sheen 'Gave' Woody Harrelson His Career

Charlie Sheen Woody Harrelson Ashton Kutcher Chuck Lorre

Never one for shying away from controversy, Charlie Sheen gave a bizarre interview to an Australian radio station this morning, where he took credit for Woody Harrelson’s entire career and called out Chuck Lorre, again.

But perhaps more surprisingly, Sheen had some kind words for Ashton Kutcher, the actor who replaced him after he was fired from sitcom ‘Two And a Half Men’.

The Edge Of Seventeen Review

Very Good

An unusually realistic teen movie, this drama gets deep under the skin of its characters, breathing new life into the genre. First-time director Kelly Fremon Craig (who previously wrote the rom-com Post Grad) has created an involving film about a teenaged girl who is easy to identify with. The script may try too hard to explain away all of her darker emotions, but it's sharp and entertaining.

Hailee Steinfeld stars as Nadine, a 17-year-old in Portland, Oregon. On the fringe of the popular kids at school, she feels like a loser who doesn't deserve to live. And she can't cope with the fact that her best pal Krista (Haley Lu Richardson) has fallen for her irritatingly popular big brother Darian (Blake Jenner). It certainly doesn't help that her mother Mona (Kyra Sedgwick) is an emotional wreck, or that Nadine is being pursued by the class nerd Erwin (Hayden Szeto), because she's much more interested in bad boy Nick (Alexander Calvert). In need of someone to talk to, she turns to her grouchy history teacher Mr Bruner (Woody Harrelson), who refuses to indulge in her angst. But he's also the only person who actually listens to her.

Steinfeld is terrific in the role, bringing an endearing raw authenticity to a character who isn't hugely likeable. As Nadine ruthlessly insults everyone around her, Steinfeld quietly reveals the sensitive soul inside, which adds a blast of complexity to her scenes with the superbly restrained Harrelson, Sedgwick and Jenner. All of these relationships are difficult and often startlingly realistic, as is the depiction of high school peer pressure. As Nadine's classmates, Richardson has a wonderfully twisty role as her childhood bestie who has apparently betrayed her trust, while Szeto steals his scenes as the hilariously awkward Erwin.

Wilson Trailer

Wilson (Woody Harrelson) may not be the most likeable of fellows; he has a penchant for startling and offending strangers with his overly honest opinions; but he considers almost everyone as a friend he just hasn't met yet. His gregariousness, however, didn't save his relationship with his estranged wife Pippi (Laura Dern) when she left him 17 years ago, and since then he's been on a quest to save himself from his crushing loneliness. Things seem to take a turn for the better when he discovers that Pippi put a daughter named Claire (Isabella Amara) up for adoption around the time that they broke up, and he sets out to find her and become the father that he's always wanted to be. He drags a reluctant Pippi along with him, but is he just trying to force a happy family on two unwilling figures that don't really want anything to do with him?

Now You See Me 2 Review

Good

While the original 2013 magical caper was a big hit, it's style-over-substance approach didn't exactly scream out for a follow-up. But here we are, with go-to sequel man Jon M. Chu at the helm (he also directed the second Step Up and G.I. Joe movies). Most of the high-octane cast is back for more trickery, but the plot is even murkier this time.

Since their last whiz-bang stunt, the Four Horsemen have been laying low. Their leader Dylan (Mark Ruffalo) continues to work in the FBI, helping Daniel, Merrit and Jack (Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson and Dave Franco) plot their next caper, now joined by quirky illusionist Lula (Lizzy Caplan). Their latest project is to expose corruption at a New York conglomerate, but the stunt is ambushed, and the quartet mysteriously finds themselves in Macau, coerced by a tech genius (Daniel Radcliffe) into staging an elaborate heist. Meanwhile, Dylan's cover is blown, so he teams up with veteran Thaddeus (Morgan Freeman) and heads to Macau himself, chased by his FBI boss (Sanaa Latham). And it all goes down in London.

The round-the-world plot gives the movie some very cool locations, and the plot races so quickly that most audiences won't notice that it makes virtually no logical sense at all. There are flashy distractions at every turn, from sleight of hand to vanishing acts to gross-out gags to enormous double-bluffs, and all of this is thoroughly entertaining even if the script itself feels strangely incomplete. Most sequences tend to end before they get to the point, while action scenes are choppy and incoherent. The only set-piece that works is the kinetic central heist, which hinges on a rapidly flung playing card. But even though it's uneven and clunky, the film remains entertaining simply because of the magical shenanigans and snarky dialogue.

Triple 9 Review

Good

After a post-apocalyptic dystopia (The Road) and Prohibition-era America (Lawless), Australian director John Hillcoat brings his edgy Wild West sensibilities to this gritty present-day heist thriller. The film is fierce and stylish, and utterly gripping even though there's the nagging sensation that nothing is happening under the surface. Thankfully, the actors add plenty of terrific texture to their characters.

It's set in Atlanta, where Terrell (Chiwetel Ejiofor) leads his crew of thugs (Anthony Mackie, Clifton Collins Jr., Aaron Paul and Norman Reedus) through a riotously dangerous bank robbery. They're working for the cold-hearted Russian mobster Irina (Kate Winslet), who demands an even bigger heist before she'll pay them. Terrell has a child with Irina, so feels like he has little choice in the matter, but his team is made up of unstable hotheads and corrupt cops who have their own opinions. One of the cops also has a new partner in Chris (Casey Affleck), a tenacious good guy who's the nephew of a cynical detective (Woody Harrelson) who's just beginning to crack this case. So the gang decides to distract the city's police force with a triple 9, code for a downed officer, while they carry out their next elaborate robbery. The question is who will take the bullet.

Matt Cook's script is a bundle of mad twists and turns, usually the result of impulsive gang members who act without thinking. The tension is very high, as each person's morality is warped at every turn. All while Chris tries to remain upright in the middle of a storm he doesn't quite understand. Each character is up against a wall, ready to do whatever it takes to survive in a situation that is getting increasingly out of control. And without more subtext, or at least a sense of these people's back-stories, no one on-screen is very likeable.

After becoming the most famous magicians in the world with their last tricks and exposing the wrongdoings of Arthur Tressler, it was obvious that as many people as they helped, they'd always upset a powerful few. One of those is Arthur's son, Walter Tressler.

With Isla Fisher pregant and unable to commit to the film Lizzy Caplan (Masters Of Sex) has been brought in to play the role of Lula. Other than Isla, all the lead cast from the first film will appear in the new film and Daniel Radcliffe will play the role of Arthurs son, a tech magnate.

This job is far bigger than the last and is an almost impossible mission. Feeling their only option is to distract all the cops in their district, the team come up with a plan to pull a Triple 9 call - police code for 'officer down'. Matthew McConaughey Open To More 'True Detective'? Yep, You Read That Right

Matthew Mcconaughey Woody Harrelson

Matthew Mcconaughey has surprised fans of the hit HBO crime series True Detective by revealing that he'd actually be pretty open to more adventures as Rust Cohle; he just didn't want to sign away his soul before he saw how the show would turn out.

The second season of Nik Pizzolatto's dark and gritty detective drama is in the process of being made and will feature a whole new cast and will be set in California, a very different location to season one's Louisiana base.

McConaughey now being a big, Oscar-winning movie star and all, it was pretty much assumed that he'd be lending the first season some starpower and then moving on along with his co-star, Woody Harrelson. However, the 44 year-old actor reveals in a new interview with Deadline that that's not really the case or at least isn't now.

True Detective Season Two: Nic Pizzolatto's 'Second Album' Will Be His Toughest

Matthew Mcconaughey Woody Harrelson

If True Detective was Nic Pizzolatto’s debut album, then he had three bona-fide number one hits: Matthew Mcconaughey, Woody Harrelson and Cary Fukunaga. None will return for the second season as the show stays strong to its anthology format.

Matthew McConaugheyWill time be a bulbous rectangle for the next True Detective star?

Pizzolatto’s second album is going to be the most difficult of his career. Rustin Cohle and Martin Hart’s investigation, spanning 17 years, delved into our leading characters as much, if not more than, the intricate plot, which centred on a deep-seated paedophile ring in America’s Deep South.

‘True Detective’ saw Matthew Mcconaughey stun as Rust Cohle – a troubled Louisiana detective struggling with the existential, philosophical nuances of life in a world in which he is charged with solving the most heinous of crimes. His partner, Martin Hart (Woody Harrelson) provided Cohle with a seemingly blank canves on which to paint his idea of the life.

Together, they dug and scraped at a deep-rooted ring of paedophiles in the Deep South, but the story was centred on our two detectives rather than the case they were there to solve. Writer Nic Pizzolatto has garnered serious critical acclaim for his dense, character based script, and the TV-living world awaits the second season with a frightening sense of anticipation. And now we have our first lead on who will star, with Jessica Chastain heavily rumored to have been approached.

Brad Pitt - Is A 'True Detective' Season 2 Spot Open If He Wants It?

Brad Pitt Matthew Mcconaughey Woody Harrelson

Not only did True Detective’s anthology format benefit the show’s plot – opening it and closing it within 8 episodes allowed for some succinct storytelling – but it also raises many questions about the second season, like who’ll replace central stars Matthew Mcconaughey and Woody Harrelson. And according to Hollywood Life, Brad Pitt’s name has been mentioned a few times.

Matthew McConaugheyWill Brad Pitt be looking to replicate Matthew McConaughey's great small screen success?

If McConaughey and Harrelson were surprise-casting choices given their well-established movie careers, then Pitt’s name is a real shock. Consistently associated with the ‘A-list’, it’s testament to the burgeoning power of the small screen that he should be linked to it. For those late to the TV party, that is. “Brad’s name has come up many times, it’s just a matter of what his other commitments are,” an insider told the gossip site.

True Detective Finale: Pizzolatto's Thoughts, Critical Reaction And Season 2 Hints

Matthew Mcconaughey Woody Harrelson HBO

For a show constantly shrouded in metaphysical ideology, True Detective’s finale was delightfully simple. What started as cops v bad guys quickly turned into Cohle v Marty, Cohle & Marty v cops, Cohle v Cohle and, perhaps most pertinently, light v dark.

The UK Falls For An Ephemeral 'True Detective'

While U.S audiences enjoyed episode 6 of HBO’s True Detective last night, Sky Atlantic aired the first on Saturday (Feb 22) as British viewers got a taste of Rust’s enigmatic ponderings as opposed to Martin’s traditional sensibilities. And then there’s the mysterious, ritualistic murder and constant sense of underlying danger. Needless to say, UK critics were enthralled.

“True Detective is as cinematic as television gets and, in many ways, is superior to its more prestigious cousin. It’s not just the movie-star cast, or that it was shot on 35mm, or the soundtrack by T Bone Burnett. It’s not even the unusual amount of creative control given to writer Nic Pizzolatto and director Cary Joji Fukunaga,” writes Ellen E. Jones for The Independent.

'Out Of The Furnace' Is Tough Watch, But Worth The Effort - Reviews Roundup

Christian Bale Casey Affleck Zoe Saldana Woody Harrelson Scott Cooper

Out of the Furnace, a story of working class turmoil and frustration, has critics singing its praises so far. That’s not unexpected – starring Christian Bale and Casey Affleck, the movie boasts plenty of talent. Zoe Saldana, Woody Harrelson, Willem Defoe, Forest Whitaker and Sam Shepard all give their best in Out of the Furnace, which tells the story of Russell Baze (Christian Bale) taking justice into his own hands after the disappearance of his younger brother Rodney (Affleck). It’s set to the background of economic decline and social struggle, making this a film about the dark, often ignored side of the American dream.

Bale's steady and nuanced performance has impressed the critics.

The LA Times’ Betsey Shakey is impressed both with the “lean script,” which “gives a face to the all too familiar struggle” as well as the strong performances of the all-star cast. “Bale and Affleck are as nuanced as Harrelson is unhinged,” the review notes “It is among the finest work done by all three.”

It’s good to see Bale back in a more human role, despite his best efforts to attribute that aspect to Batman in the popular Dark Knight trilogy.

'Now You See Me' Receives Mixed Reviews From Critics On US Release

Jesse Eisenberg Mark Ruffalo Woody Harrelson Isla Fisher Dave Franco Melanie Laurent Morgan Freeman Michael Caine Louis Leterrier

Magical mystery thriller Now You See Me receives a flood of favourable and not so favourable reviews as it is released in US movie theatres today (May 31st 2013).

With a star-studded ensemble cast led by Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, Mélanie Laurent, Morgan Freemanand Michael Caine, it's no wonder 'Now You See Me' has turned out to be a massive hit with many critics. Living up to its expectations, this Louis Leterrier directed movie has been described as 'A grandiose, far-fetched, somewhat tongue-in-cheek caper thriller' by Vulture and Television Without Pity said 'the tricks were really fantastic' and 'overall, it was an enjoyable time'.

On the other hand, many were unimpressed, with Complex stating rather bluntly, 'the illusion of its awesomeness vanishes to reveal its greatest trick yet: stealing your money' and CTV's Canada AM suggesting that one should 'wrap it in cellophane, lock it in a box and hide it under the bed'. Either way, if you like glamour, mystery and mischief then it's a great film to go and see and with such an excellent cast, just how bad can it possibly be?

Amazing Studios Confirms Zombieland Pilot: Can It Match The Movie?

Woody Harrelson Izabela Vidovic

The much-loved film Zombieland, starring Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg and Emma Stone, is to receive its own pilot, with Amazon Studios pushing ahead plans to bulk up its online player profile. The pilot will be one of 12 pilots made available on the player for free, with their subsequent levels of popularity helping to decide which of them will then be made into a full-length TV season to air on Prime Instant Video.

“Zombieland is a fan favorite, and we can’t wait to see where this story line goes in a serialized format,” said Amazon Studios director Roy Price in a statement reported by The Hollywood Reporter today (March 25, 2013). “We’ve been announcing a lot of exciting exclusive content for Prime Instant Video, like ;Downton Abbey, Under the Dome and Justified, and we think adding original shows to that lineup is going to make Prime even more enticing for customers.”

Paul Wernick is among the writers of the show, and he commented “Zombieland will strive to break the rules: action, adventure, thrills, chills and laughs and all packed into a half-hour format. This is not your average show, but Amazon is not your average network." Kirk Ward (from The Island) has been cast as Tallahassee, while Maiara Walsh (DesperateHousewives), Tyler Ross (Milkshake) and Izabela Vidovic will play Wichita, Columbus and Little Rock, respectively.

It’s A Boy! No, It’s Definitely A Boy! Matthew McConaughey Names Son Livingstone

Matthew Mcconaughey Camila Alves Reese Witherspoon Woody Harrelson Kenny Chesney

Matthew Mcconaughey and Camila Alves have put an end to the rumours that their new baby is a girl. Despite initial reports suggesting that their child was a daughter, McConaughey put the record straight with a Facebook post welcoming their new son to the world. “Camila Alves gave birth to our third child yesterday morning. Our son, Livingston Alves McConaughey was born at 7:43am on 12.28.12. He greeted the world at 9lbs. and 21 inches,” wrote McConaughey. He then added “Bless up and thank you for your well wishes. Happy New year, and just keep livin, Camila and Matthew McConaughey.”

What a brilliant end to a brilliant year for those two; they got married back in June, at their home in Austin, Texas, in a relaxed ceremony that took place amidst a three day celebration. Their guests included Reese Witherspoon, Woody Harrelson and Kenny Chesney.

The couple already have two children; a four year-old named Levi and a three year old named Vida. It’s no surprise then that they chose a less-than-conventional name for young Livingstone. Since McConaughey posted the details of his son’s name on Facebook, the source of Livingstone McConaughey’s will no doubt become the source of much speculation. The Dallas Buyer’s Club hasn’t given the game away just yet, though, so we’ll all have to keep guessing.

Seven Psychopaths Trailer

Marty is a budding screenwriter in LA with hopes of completing his major screenplay 'Seven Psychopaths' but involuntarily gets mixed up in his friends Hans and Billy's career of dog kidnapping; a way of earning money that involves stealing people's pet pooches and returning them some days later to claim the reward. Billy is an actor and Marty's best friend who tries desperately to keep him safe when he is almost killed after Billy and Hans steal the much-loved Shih Tzu of unhinged gangster, Charlie; a man whose fury and devastation at losing his dog is enough drive to execute whoever he thinks is involved. Hans is religious with a violent past but now recognises non-violence as a better way to live. However, he, Billy and Marty will struggle avoiding violence at the hands of Charlie especially as they choose to ignore their worried and annoyed girlfriends' suggestions to return the dog.

'Seven Psychopaths' is a wonderful crime comedy that spoofs the trend of all the serious gangster movies that have been released this year. Directed, written and produced by the Oscar winning Martin Mcdonagh ('In Bruges', 'Six Shooter'), this star-studded flick is definitely one for dog lovers and gangster film lovers alike. It is scheduled for release in the UK this winter on December 7th 2012.

Starring: Sam Rockwell, Colin Farrell, Christopher Walken, Woody Harrelson, Abbie Cornish, Olga Kurylenko, Zeljko Ivanek, Tom Waits, Helena Mattsson, Gabourey Sidibe, Kevin Corrigan, Brendan Sexton III, Sandy Martin and Ronnie Gene Blevins.
