Details of plot points and character arcs for upcoming Star Wars projects are more closely guarded than most heads of state at this moment in time, but actor Woody Harrelson was able to release a sliver of information on the character he’s going to play in the forthcoming Han Solo movie.

The 55 year old star is travelling to London in the next few weeks to film his part in the project, currently untitled and with a vaunted release date for 2018. However, he stopped by Wednesday night’s edition of ‘The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon’ to reveal some tiny details of the identity of his character and what he might be involved in.

Woody HarrelsonWoody Harrelson will play a character called 'Beckett' in the Han Solo movie

“I play a guy named Beckett who’s kind of a criminal and a mentor to Han,” Harrelson told Fallon, without giving any more away than that. Well, at least it’s something, and it will keep Star Wars fans in gossip for a while.

It disproves a previous popular theory that he would be playing a character called Garris Shrike, another ‘mentor figure’ from Solo’s past.

Furthermore, in all of the official Star Wars universe, the fan site Comicbook points out that there is no record of any character named as Beckett, so the character Harrelson is playing is very likely to be a brand new addition to the franchise.

The film has a prospective release date of May 25th, 2018, and features as Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo. It also boasts Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton, Donald Glover, and Michael K. Williams among its cast.

It is now filming under the direction of Phil Lord and Chris Miller, and it will explore Han’s past and adventures with his ally Chewbacca (played by Joonas Suotamo) in the era before they meet Luke Skywalker to battle the Empire.
