A Live Action ‘Tetris’ Movie Is On Its Way (Seriously)

XBOX

Of all the video games you could imagine making the leap onto the big screen, Tetris would have to be pretty low down on that list. After all, it is a game which involves shapes, just shapes and really how good of a movie could that possibly be?

NintendoTetris was a staple of Nintendo's Gameboy console

Well it appears we’re about to find out as Threshold Entertainment have just announced plans for a live action movie based on the game. Threshold do have experience transferring games to the big screen, having previously given us Mortal Kombat in 1995 and its sequel.

Here's Why 'Dead Island' Shouldn't Be A Movie

XBOX

If at first you don't succeed, try again! Unless what you're trying is a really bad idea in the first place. Then maybe you should give up and focus on other some other things. Especially if it's the proposed movie adaptation of the video game zombie franchise, Dead Island.

Dead IslandThe hit video game franchise, Dead Island, is going to be made into a movie

Dead Island was a mega hit when it first debuted on PlayStation 3, XBOX 360, and PC platforms in 2011, and it wasn't surprising in the least. Hype reached massive levels prior to the game's release with its reveal trailer, depicting a vague but intriguing cinematic/movie-like look into a family vacation gone wrong. The game itself hardly matched the trailer. Though it had a fun level-up system and crafting mechanic to it, the hack-and-slashing of zombies provided its fun for only so long until it got boring. Dead Island's follow-up, Dead Island: Riptide, was even more disappointing; it offered nothing new to an already stale franchise, and it was time for the developers to go back to the drawing board.

Borderlands 1 & 2 Were So Good, The Gearbox President Is "Scared" Of A Third

XBOX

Completing the Borderlands trilogy, and even going beyond that, is a must for Gearbox. Their open world shooter, which boasts an incredible amount of content in the form of quests, loot and enemies, have been a welcome addition to the RPG/FPS landscape. Too welcome, perhaps?

Borderlands 2Borderlands 2 - photo: gearbox

That’s where Randy Pitchford – president of Gearbox – is at right now. Having presided over two of the best games to hit the previous generation of consoles, an exciting opportunity to develop the third Borderland title for the XBOX One and PS4 awaits. The pressure, though, comes hand-in-hand with success.

Ariel, a new game from much of the dev team behind the post-apocalyptic cult hit, S.T.A.L.K.E.R, has hit Kickstarter. Described  as “the definitive spiritual successor to the cult hit S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series,” Ariel is another first-person, open world game set after a catastrophic event causes life as we know it to change irrevocably.

StalkerAreal has amassed almost half of its Kickstarter goal

“Areal depicts a future where civilization has fallen apart due to an unearthly material called Metamorphite, which eventually spreads, corrupts and infects the whole world. The source of Metamorphite comes from a meteor that impacted the earth long ago, and it is the site of constant conflict and bloodshed,” reads the game’s Kickstarter page.

Destiny's Public Beta Will Run Nice And Smoothly... Hopefully

XBOX

As an online-only shooter, with a massively shared world – not to mention being one of the year’s most anticipated games, it’s not hard to foresee a situation in which Destiny’s beta release is a buggy affair.

DestinyPhoto: Bungie

But according to Bungie, everything is in place for a smooth release.  "We have been actively preparing," Bungie COO Pete Parsons said. "It's always scary and exciting and to put your work out in front of people who are judging it but it's also scary to put it out there because you're testing whether it's going to work or not."

Those Hidden Watch Dogs Graphics Files Explained

XBOX

While PC gaming is generally more expensive than console gaming, it does throw up things like this that make it worth every penny. The secret graphics files found on the PC version of Watch Dogs have been explained by Ubisoft.

Watchdogs

These files, which improved the game’s visuals, but did damage overall performance, were discovered by modders earlier on this week. The unused options affect things depth of field, dynamic lighting, shadows and more. And now, the game’s makers have issued a statement to address their decisions.

'Batman: Arkham Knight' Features Exclusive Scarecrow Treat For PS4 Owners

XBOX

Announced at E3 - where else? – the final instalment of the Batman: Arkham Knight trilogy will feature exclusive Scarecrow missions for PS4 users only. We also got to see a new trailer with plenty of good old fashioned beat ‘em up content, and, of course, a better look at the Batmobile.

Batman Arkham Knight

"How many more bones would you crush," Scarecrow says in the frankly awesome gameplay trailer. "How many lives will you destroy in pursuit of what you call justice? You are the product of everything you fear: violence, darkness, helplessness." According to Andrew House, president and group chief executive officer of Sony Computer Entertainment America, the Scarecrow nightmare missions will only be available on PlayStation – sorry XBOX folks.

Naughty Dog's E3 2014: 'Uncharted 4: A Thief's End' And More Info On The Last Of Us Remastered

XBOX

While some, including me, were hopelessly dreaming of a secret Last of Us DLC unveiling, or better still, a sequel, acclaimed developer Naughty Dog gave us what we expected at E3: something concrete on Uncharted 4 and a something more on The Last of Us: remastered on PS4.

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End

We had to wait until the very end as Sony’s  final reveal was Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. Surprisingly, we were privy to very little screen time, and what we did see looked suspiciously like pre-rendered footage. But, and we’re sure you’ll agree, any Uncharted is good Uncharted.

Why Was Batman: Arkham Knight Delayed? A Look At 2015's Most Anticipated Game

XBOX

The wait for what was one of this year’s most anticipated games is going to have to go on for a little while longer. Until next year, actually. Originally set to hit stores October 14, Batman: Arkham Knight has been delayed until 2015. Arkham Knight joins the ranks of blockbuster AAA video games that were previously scheduled for 2014 then delayed until further notice. For instance, action-role playing game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was supposed to see the light of day this fall, but was delayed until later in February. The survival horror Dying Light should have arrived this spring, but now is delayed until sometime in 2015. This list goes on, and includes other titles like Mad Max, The Order: 1886, and Tom Clancy’s The Division.

Batman Arkham KnightBatman Arkham Knight has been delayed

It’s frustrating for sure, and gamers try to ease the disappointment by trying to convince themselves that game delays mean that developers are just taking extra time to work out all of the remaining kinks. However, in some cases like Watch Dogs, which was originally planned to be a PlayStation 4/XBOX One launch title, online connectivity issues has made it a struggle for players to connect to the multiplayer servers. So with no evidence that a game will turn out perfect because of its delay, what’s the point of a delay anyway? Better yet, why announce a release date so far in advance in the first place?

President Obama Expresses His Admiration For 'The Witcher'

Barack Obama XBOX

We already know the President of The United States is into his TV; he’s talked about House of Cards, Game of Thrones and True Detective before. He’s just a guy like any of us, right? And now he’s been waxing lyrical about The Witcher, a sequel for which a sequel for which -  The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - is scheduled to launch in February 2015.

Mortal Kombat X Is Coming And It's Coming In 2016

XBOX

Mortal Kombat X was the worst kept secret in video games until it was officially announced. The legendary beat ‘em up was heavily rumoured to appear in next week’s E3 conference, but a retail leak meant Warner Bros. decided to get the announcement over and done with.

Mortal KombatMortal Kombat: significant graphical improvements have been made from the PS3/XBOX 360 Version

But this was no statement released on an official blog; a full trailer has hit the Internet and features best friends Scorpion and Sub-Zero relentless going at it. And, considering the game has been confirmed for release on all platforms, it’s almost impossible that what you watched or are about to watch was/is gameplay footage. Watch the trailer here.

Great But Not Perfect - Watch Dogs Arrives To Glowing Reviews

XBOX Atmosphere

Watch Dogs has finally hit town to the tune of positive reviews from the majority of the critics. It’s not The Last of Us – you couldn’t move for all the double-digit reviews for Naughty Dog’s masterpiece – but it’s certainly an enjoyable romp with a beautifully realised, intricate Chicago to traverse and explore.

Watch Dogs

Ubisoft’s third-person, open-world, hacking adventure sees Aiden Pearce take centre stage – he’s a hacker with a vendetta and, luckily for him, Chicago’s entire technological ecosystem seems to be running off through one OS, meaning he can effectively control everything from traffic lights to security cameras, not to mention emptying anyone’s bank account within seconds.

Watch Dogs Download Leaves Torrenters With Bitcoin Mining Virus

XBOX Atmosphere

These, ladies and gentlemen, are the perils of illegally downloading software. Ubisoft’s hugely anticipated title Watch Dogs, which comes out tomorrow (May 27) on multiple platforms, is causing problems for those that decided the anticipation was too much and pulled it from thousands of seeders via a torrent.

Watch Dogs

It’s difficult not to laugh at the irony of it all, considering the game is focussed on hacking, illegal activity and the consequences of committing crimes – both on a moral sense and in the visceral sense.

The Xbox Entertainment Original Line Up Is Fresh, Bold And Varied

XBOX

When Microsoft announced their next-gen console, The XBOX ONE, gamers were critical of the company’s focus on non-gaming enterprises. A few months after its release, those concerns have faded, but Microsoft’s plan to bring original content to their hardware’s streaming capabilities hasn’t.

Xbox Entertainment

Like Netflix, Xbox Entertainment Studios are planning on producing and releasing content that is exclusive to their service. And at monday's newfronts presentation, The Wrap got the inside track.

'Batman: Arkham Knight' Will Serve As The Series' Next Gen Conclusion

Batman XBOX Warner Brothers

While hysteria surrounding Microsoft and Sony’s next generation of consoles has certainly been palpable, it’s been dampened somewhat by the lack of stellar titles available on the XBOX ONE and PS4. Titanfall, Watchdogs and The Witcher 3 are all nice promises to look forward to, but Dead Rising 3, Knack and Killzone 4 weren’t exactly titles worthy of ushering in the latest specification of hardware.

Batman: Arkham OriginsBatman fights the bad guys in Arkham Origins

But it was only a matter of time before the big, next-gen only titles were going to be announced, and the fourth instalment of the Arkham series is certainly that: a triple A, blockbuster title for the new generation of consoles. “Invest in Gotham,” says Bruce Wayne’s dead father in the trailer’s voiceover. “Treat its people like family. Watch over them. Use this money to safeguard them from forces beyond their control.”

It’s easy to say this about every year and not get called out, given the rapid, exponential growth of the video games market in the past decade, but 2013 has really been a golden year for the medium. Megan Fox 'Call Of Duty: Ghosts' Live Action Trailer Hits, Game Divides Critics

Megan Fox XBOX

One of videogaming’s biggest franchises is renewed tonight (Nov 5) in the form of Call of Duty: Ghosts; the first game in the action series to be released on the next generation of consoles as well as the current ones. To whet gamer’s appetites – if they needed any more whetting – a live action trailer featuring Megan Fox has been unloaded.

Call of Duty gameCall of Duty is one of the most successful games of all time

Featuring what Activision and InfintyWard consider to be archetypal gamers, aka: three handsome men and one fat geek, four dudes and a dog embark on a totally ridiculous mission to… well, it’s not clear what they’re doing. They drive into a battlefield unnecessarily, then get saved by Megan Fox (not before one of the ‘handsome’ guys tries it on).

Grand Theft Auto 5 Breaks All Kinds Of Records By Making $800 Mil. On It's First Day

XBOX

In case you've been living under a rock for the past week or so, Tuesday, 17 September saw the release of one of the most hotly anticipated releases in gaming history; Grand Theft Auto 5. Boasting a free-roaming map of an unfathomable size, a long, challenging and rewarding storyline and as much mindless violence to make the most deranged video game fan happy, there was little doubting the fact that GTA V was big news.

GTA 5
The game, like all the games, carries a 18 certificate. So who's really to blame if your child plays it?

With such a furore surrounding the newest release from RockStar Games, there was a threat of the title not living up to expectations in the sales front, but these worries were soon shattered as GTA enthusiasts from across the globe queued over night to get their hands on the controversial RPG. Take-Two Interactive Software, the games' publishers, said that the first day sales of the game were the biggest it had ever seen, as the game has clearly failed to lose any of it's appeal after 16 years since the first GTA came out on the Playstation. And just how well exactly did the game do, how does $800 million well sound?
