Young Rebel Set Announce New Album 'Crocodile' Released September 30th 2013

Young Rebel Set return with new album, 'Crocodile', released September 30th through Ignition Records.

From The Coral meets The Doors alt-pop of lead single 'The Lash Of The Whip' (also out Sept 30th), to the anthemic rocker 'Another Time, Another Place', to the more sombre sound of the anguished 'Tuned Transmission', Young Rebel Set successfully bridge indie, blue-collar rock & gritty white boy soul with this rousing new set. The follow up to their 2011 debut album 'Curse Our Love', the five-piece from Stockton-on-Tees have raised the bar with 'Crocodile'.

'Crocodile' was recorded in Glasgow at Chem19 Studios with producer (and former Delgado's drummer) Paul Savage, best known for his work with Mogwai, The Phantom Band & Arab Strap. The band decided to head to Glasgow after a failed attempt at recording the new album in London.

"We were drinking too much and sitting around doing fuck all everyday thinking we'd made it because we were in London recording an album," is the brutally honest assessment of guitarist Mark Evans.

By contrast, in Glasgow with Savage on board the band were incredibly focussed and able to explore new ways of working and approaching songwriting. "Paul managed to get the best out of us from both a songwriting and musical point of view" says Evans.

Whilst far from being a nostalgia band, Young Rebel Set did draw inspiration from some classic artists. "We ended up buying a vintage pedal to recreate that Byrd's guitar sound," says Evans. "And I remember listening to Bruce Springsteen as a reference to a certain vocal style that Paul wanted from Matty."

The inspiration for the album title comes from a scene in the film 'The Krays', where Ronnie and Reggie are asked to provide their Schoolteacher with a "wonderful word". Simultaneously they both say "Crocodile", illustrating their telepathic connection - a feeling the band aspire to while recording and playing together.

Singer/guitarist Matty Chipchase began his musical career performing as a solo artist before assembling Young Rebel Set in 2010. The band now comprises of Matty with two sets of brothers - Andy and Chris Parmley on guitar and bass, plus Mark and Luke Evans on guitar and drums respectively.

Young Rebel Set have toured relentlessly, becoming a formidable live act with a considerable following in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and at home in the UK. They will play Newcastle, Leeds & London as part of their upcoming European tour. More UK shows will announced shortly.
