Very Good

After teaming up with Will Ferrell for Get Hard and Ice Cube for two Ride Along movies, Kevin Hart takes on The Rock in this entertaining action-comedy bromance. They make a great couple, as Dwayne Johnson's bulk cleverly contrasts with Hart's tightly wound intensity. Even more enjoyable is that they've essentially swapped roles, with Hart as the straight guy opposite Johnson's awkward goofball.

They play characters who knew each other in high school, when Calvin (Hart) was the king of the campus, captain of every sports team, star of every theatre production, top student and boyfriend of the sexiest cheerleader (Danielle Nicolet), whom he went on to marry. On the other hand, Bob (Johnson) was a badly bullied, overweight kid, who now turns up in town for their 20th reunion as a beefy muscleman. Clearly a little unhinged, Bob is also a rogue CIA operative, hunted by his boss Pam (Amy Ryan) for killing his partner (Aaron Paul) and other crimes he insists he didn't commit. So he ropes Calvin in to help clear his name, but Calvin finds this situation so insane that he's not sure who to believe.

While all of this plays out in a blissfully silly way, there's also a bit of an edge to the movie as it explores the issue of bullying with some gentle nuance that includes racism, sexism and homophobia. So even when it's rude or mindlessly corny, the movie is making a point. That said, the message might have been more convincing without the over-the-top violence that fills all of the action sequences. Thankfully, that never drowns out the terrific chemistry between Johnson and Hart, who bounce hilariously off each other as two men who have been emasculated in very different ways and need to prove themselves. This vulnerability makes both of them easy to identify with, especially as they play with their usual on-screen personas.

Eye In The Sky Review

Excellent

Almost forensic in its approach, this smart thriller explores a drone strike from a variety of perspectives that bring the moral dilemmas sharply into focus. This includes textured performances from seriously gifted actors who add layers of political, military, legal and emotional meaning to each moment along the way. So the film is continuously gripping, putting the audience right in the middle of the action.

The target is in a suburb of Nairobi, where three of the world's most wanted Somali jihadists are gathering to prepare two young suicide bombers for a mission. British Colonel Powell (Helen Mirren) is overseeing the operation from London, with her American drone pilots (Aaron Paul and Phoebe Fox) working in Las Vegas. The hitch is that two of the targets are UK citizens, and one is American, which means that they also need to have government officials in on the discussion. So Lt General Benson (Alan Rickman) is watching with British government ministers (including Jeremy Northam and Monica Dolan). Meanwhile in Kenya, a local operative (Barkhad Abdi) is on the scene. But just as everyone agrees to fire the missile, a young girl (Aisha Takow) wanders into the danger zone.

What follows is a remarkably tense escalation of decision-making, as everyone passes the buck up the chain to avoid making the call themselves. Guy Hibbert's script orchestrates this skilfully, keeping the atmosphere taut while stirring generous doses of black comedy into the interaction between soldiers and politicians. This includes amusing scenes in which Britain's foreign secretary (Iain Glen) is dragged into the conversation while suffering food poisoning in Singapore. Yes, the film has a terrific sense of instant global connections, as its characters work together at a huge distance from each other and from the target of their operation.

Triple 9 Review

Good

After a post-apocalyptic dystopia (The Road) and Prohibition-era America (Lawless), Australian director John Hillcoat brings his edgy Wild West sensibilities to this gritty present-day heist thriller. The film is fierce and stylish, and utterly gripping even though there's the nagging sensation that nothing is happening under the surface. Thankfully, the actors add plenty of terrific texture to their characters.

It's set in Atlanta, where Terrell (Chiwetel Ejiofor) leads his crew of thugs (Anthony Mackie, Clifton Collins Jr., Aaron Paul and Norman Reedus) through a riotously dangerous bank robbery. They're working for the cold-hearted Russian mobster Irina (Kate Winslet), who demands an even bigger heist before she'll pay them. Terrell has a child with Irina, so feels like he has little choice in the matter, but his team is made up of unstable hotheads and corrupt cops who have their own opinions. One of the cops also has a new partner in Chris (Casey Affleck), a tenacious good guy who's the nephew of a cynical detective (Woody Harrelson) who's just beginning to crack this case. So the gang decides to distract the city's police force with a triple 9, code for a downed officer, while they carry out their next elaborate robbery. The question is who will take the bullet.

Matt Cook's script is a bundle of mad twists and turns, usually the result of impulsive gang members who act without thinking. The tension is very high, as each person's morality is warped at every turn. All while Chris tries to remain upright in the middle of a storm he doesn't quite understand. Each character is up against a wall, ready to do whatever it takes to survive in a situation that is getting increasingly out of control. And without more subtext, or at least a sense of these people's back-stories, no one on-screen is very likeable.

Having been previously connected to a series of suicide bombings, the Colonel tracks down the woman (currently going under the new Ayesha Al-Hady) and makes contact with her superiors to let them know her progress.

When Bob was at school he was the complete opposite to the person he's grown into. The uncool kid known for being quite rotund is now a lean, mean, killing machine - literally. Now going by the name Bob, he's one of the CIA's main operatives and he's about to embark on a tricky mission.

Coincidentally, one of the most popular kids from his year has also grown up to be a very different person to who he was. Bob calls on the help of one of the old jocks who's now living a far more sedate life as an accountant. Adjusting to a new way of life isn't going to be easy for the former no1 but with the help of Bob, along the course of their journey they might just save the free world from being destroyed.

Central Intelligence is directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber and will be released in June 2016.

Triple 9 Trailer

Terrell Tompkins and his team of officers are corrupt, finding ways to embellish their wage has turned into a habit that's about to land them in a lot of trouble. When a powerful member of the Russian mafia learns of Tompkins' money making ways, she blackmails him and his team into pulling a heist for her. Fearing they'll be exposed, the gang carry out the job for Irene, a woman who might look glamourous but has a dark soul. Once the job's complete, the crew believe they're in the clear but savvy Sergeant Detective Jeffrey Allen has been put on the case and he soon discovers that there's probably more to the robbery than first thought.

That's not the only problem facing Tompkins, Irene tracks the cop down and requests another job - if refused Irene won't hesitate in taking their lives. This job is far bigger than the last and is an almost impossible mission. Feeling their only option is to distract all the cops in their district, the team come up with a plan to pull a Triple 9 call - police code for 'officer down'. However, with Sergeant Detective Allen constantly uncovering more information and being faced with the ordeal of killing one of their own, the job will be far from straight forward.

Triple 9 is directed by John Hillcoat who also directed 2012's Lawless starring Shia LaBeouf and Tom Hardy & the film adaptation of The Road starring Viggo Mortensen.

TV is currently enjoying the most purple of purple patches. Since shows like The Sopranos and The Wire paved the way for intricately written, complex characters in worlds that aren’t manufactured inside a warehouse in West Hollywood, a new generation of small-screen stories are being told, with HBO at the forefront.

Most recently, True Detective, Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones have kept viewers hooked and column inches swelling with imaginative, deep plotlines, expertly written and consummately delivered. AMC have joined the party, too, giving us the most talked about show in Breaking Bad, the most imitated show in Mad Men and the most watched show in The Walking Dead. This really is a purple patch for television.

'Need For Speed' Is Rubbish And It Didn't Make Any Money

Aaron Paul Dominic Cooper Imogen Poots Michael Keaton Kid Cudi

Did anyone else see this coming? A videogame racer featuring no characters – just cars – molded into a movie turns out to be rubbish. That headline’s too long though, so we had to explain it in this first bit. What’s more, Need for Speed didn’t even manage to beat out Mr. Peabody and Sherman or 300: Rise of An Empire at the box office, both of which have already been for a week.

Need for Speed Promo ImageIt's been a bad domestic start for NFS - hopefully it can rake it in internationally

This news will come as a major blow to Buena Vista, who will have undoubtedly hoped the star draw of Aaron Paul – who was on everyone’s lips at the end of last year for his brilliant role as Jesse Pinkman in Breaking Bad – would be enough to garner sufficient hype and make Need For Speed a financial juggernaut if nothing else.

On Debut Weekend, Dreamworks' "Need For Speed" Is Looking Like A Flop

Aaron Paul

The box office this weekend is finally seeing some movement. The Aaron Paul flick made good profits on its Friday release, but Mr. Peabody and Sherman is looking like the weekend chart topper. On Friday, Need for Speed made a promising start with $6.6 in early profits. Its weekend projections, however are less optimistic. While Dreamworks and its partner Disney were hoping for around $25 million in weekend profits, the film is headed straight for the $18 to $19 million range, THR reports.

The studio is still hoping for the flick, which cost $66million to make, to show some franchise potential, mostly from its overseas earnings. Need for Speed is expected to see a weekend rush in international markets, including China. In North America, it earned a B+ CinemaScore. However, reviewers were no less than brutal. The Fast & Furious-style action flick currently holds a 24% “rotten” rating on the review aggregator.

The Rise And Rise Of Aaron Paul

With the release of his new movie ‘Need for Speed’, ‘Breaking Bad’ actor Aaron Paul is looking to move from small screen accolades to big screen stardom. Will the actor sucessfully make the transition? Well so far things have been pretty good for the former movie usher.

Aaron Paul is currently starring in 'Need for Speed'Aaron Paul is currently starring in 'Need for Speed'

34 year old Idaho native, Aaron Paul, wasted no time in starting out on his road to fame. Straight after graduating High School, the actor drove to Los Angeles to seek out acting roles and eventually landed a job on the wrong side of the screen, as a movie theatre usher. A few bit parts in movies came, he starred alongside James Franco in forgotten teen movie, ‘Whatever it Takes’ in 2000, appeared as the son of Jeff Bridges in ‘K-Pax’ and also lent his voice to the animated underwater tale ‘Help Im a Fish’. But if you’re looking for Paul’s most memorable early career moment, then you might want to look up the January 3rd 2000 episode of TV game show ‘The Price is Right’. A very, very enthusiastic pre fame Aaron appeared as a contestant and walked away with a desk as his prize. The clip is of course now on Youtube.

Aaron Paul's "Need For Speed" Matches His Need For Change

Aaron Paul is giving the TV-to-film transition his best goal and, with Breaking Bad and Need for Speed on his reel, he has an actual shot. Not Another Car Film: How Aaron Paul Was Won Over By "Need For Speed"

Aaron Paul Ramon Rodriguez

On first glance, Dreamworks’ upcoming big-screen adaptation of the Need for Speed video game seems like quite a big leap of faith. Movies, based on video games have tended to be hit-and-miss in the past, with the “miss category” boasting far more entries and Need for Speed in particular doesn’t have the kind of story that would typically pull the film out of the pit of mediocrity. The best thing that Need for Speed has going for it, is its cast. At the beginning, even that was uncertain, with Aaron Paul and Ramon Rodriguez hesitant to take on the project at all.

Aaron Paul, Need For Speed Premiere
Aaron Paul was initially reluctant to take on the project at all.

"I didn't even want to read the script," Paul told The Hollywood Reporter ahead of Tuesday night's Cinema Society-hosted screening of the film. "I saw the script and I was like, 'Oh, no, another video-game movie'…So, it took everything in me to turn the first page. And once I turned the first page, I kept turning. I was so surprised that it had a great human story behind it and great characters that I found myself instantly invested in."

In the 'Top 20 Celebs Gone Good' list compiled by DoSomething.org, Swift was crowned the most giving celebrity of the year by the non-profit charity group following a year of helping the under-privileged.

In addition to fronting group therapy sessions for her bullied fans, Swift has also pledged her time to a number of younger fans facing serious troubles. Among them, Taylor met with a 7-year-old fan named Grace Markel, who was struck down by a car on the way to a previous performance by Swift, before a show in September. She also spent some of her Christmas Day on the phone to a cancer-stricken fan who was spending the holidays in hospital.

The episode saw Hank still looking for a way to expose his brother-in-law as Heisenberg, which drove Walt to all but abandon any pretense that he wasn’t, in fact, a drug kingpin. During a particularly tense dinner with with Hank, Skyler and Marie, he shows Hank exactly why it wasn’t a good idea to mess with the real Heisenberg – in his most cold-blooded display to date, Walter plays an audio confession, exposing himself as the lowly chemist behind Heisenberg’s massive operation, while the real mastermind is exposed as agent Hank Shrader. The story makes perfect use of Hank’s notable temper outbursts, as well as his connection to Gus Fring.

The Internet Takes On "Breaking Bad" - Top 5 Youtube Parodies (There Are No Cats, Sadly)

Bryan Cranston Aaron Paul

Let’s talk about Breaking Bad – again. It’s what the internet is talking about anyway. Breaking Bad parodies are sort of like the new Harlem Shake video, except they’re older than the Harlem Shake and quite a bit funnier, too. These are watchable past the third one. As it turns out, even something as serious as “the meth game” is subject to the noble art of parody. And when you mix Taylor Swift lyrics with degenerate criminals, hilarity ensues. So without further ado, here are this writer’s personal Top 5 Breaking Bad parodies, in no particular order.

Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad Still
One thing Breaking Bad isn't is funny. Or so we thought.

We Are Never Ever Gonna Cook Together. Of course, the list has to start with the aforementioned Taylor Swift reference. Because it’s quite possibly the funniest thing out there. Walt and Jesse’s relationship is so perfectly summed up in some of the lyrics, it’s almost eerie. But we won’t spoil it for you. Watch below.

Things To Look Forward To Beyond 'Breaking Bad': Aaron Paul And Saul Goodman

Aaron Paul Bryan Cranston Anna Gunn Bob Odenkirk

The end of Breaking Bad is near; season five part two has finally started, and will wrap up after seven more episodes on September 27th. But don’t be too sad, we know it’ll be a thrill-ride, and once it’s over, there’s plenty more to look forward to.

The casting choice of Bryan Cranston as Walter White was a stroke of genius. His previous work as Hal in Malcolm in The Middle had some people confused, but eventually his reputation added to his transformation from goofy work-a-day father to drug lynchpin; that and his Emmy award-winning performances.

Could "Hell On Wheels" Replace "Breaking Bad" As AMC's Token Weekend Dose Of Grit?

Bryan Cranston Aaron Paul Anson Mount

There’s a lot to watch out for this weekend, as various shows kick off new seasons (and of course, there are the Teen Choice Awards tonight, for the five people, who still watch those), but the big winner is, without a doubt, AMC. The channel, which started off introducing its viewers to old, classic (more or less) movies from the comfort of their own home, has definitely moved on to bigger and, uh, more morally questionable things – this is now the channel that brings you The Walking Dead, Mad Men and, finally, this weekend, the season premieres of Breaking Bad and Hell on Wheels.

Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad Still
Walter White returns tonight for one last hurrah.

There are still a few hours to go, before we come face to face with the monster that became of Walter White – let’s face it, none of us can stop watching – but the premiere of Hell on Wheels was last night and it left many people wondering, could this be AMC’s next Breaking Bad-scale hit?

Chemistry Gone Bad - Where Breaking Bad (Rarely) Gets It Wrong

Bryan Cranston Aaron Paul

It’s Breaking Bad weekend! Well, almost – the now iconic show returns for its final 8-episode run this Sunday and it’s all anyone can talk about – this staff writer included, of course. So, without further ado, here are the top four facts we bet you didn’t know about Breaking Bad (and which, objectively, you probably don’t need to know.)

Bryan Cranston, Ed Sullivan Theatre
Bryan Cranston looking almost as badass as his character.

1. The meth crystals shouldn’t be blue. According to a recent article in The Business Insider, the crystals of supposedly ultra-uber-pure methamphetamine that Walter White is known for producing… should be clear. If they didn’t have any impurities, the crystals should be completely clear and even impurities (or a special ingredient by Walt) should not give them a blue, but rather, a yellowish tinge. So does that mean the secret ingredient is love? We doubt it.

Breaking Bad's Winning Streak Continues At Television Critics Association Awards

Bryan Cranston Aaron Paul Barbara Walters

Breaking Bad, the TV drama, which is just heading into its final 8-episode run, won top honors at this Saturday’s TV Critics Association Awards. The show won for program of the year among a number of highly acclaimed and successful TV productions, some of which don’t typically get recognized by the Emmys.

Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, Emmy Lot
Breaking Bad emerged as the topic of the night.

Game of Thrones was another one of the night’s biggest winners, taking the honor in the category of best drama, while Big Bang Theory and Parks and Recreation had to split the title of best comedy. Tatiana Maslany of BBC America’s Orphan Black and Louis CK of FX’s Louis were both recognised as outstanding achievement in the drama and comedy categories, respectively, while Barbara Walters received the career achievement award. For Walters, the award comes right on the heels of her announcement that she will be retiring from broadcast journalism in a years time. This was probably why the TV Critics Association chose his particular time to honor Walters with the distinction.

Possibly the most symbolic visual from Breaking Bad, ‘the RV’ gave Walter and Jesse a way to cook meth – they could drive out way into the desert and knock up a batch of the blue stuff, far safer than setting up on Jesse’s basement, as we all know. Spoilers ahead, just so you know.

Bryan Cranston Aaron Paul

Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston found a novel way to mingle with fans and explore the stalls of the San Diego Comic Con International; by wearing a mask that is the exact replica of your own face. Cranston donned a bald, goateed latex mask as he navigated the San Diego convention, and no-one was any wiser that the guy who was dressed up as Walter White at Comic Con was actually Walter White himself.

Best Wedding Ever? Aaron Paul And Lauren Parsekian Hire John Mayer, David Blaine

Aaron Paul Lauren Parsekian David Blaine John Mayer David Cross Amber Tamblyn

Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul has married his long-time girlfriend Lauren Parsekian at a ceremony at Cottage Pavilion at Calamigos Ranch in Malibu on Sunday (May 26, 2013), according to Us Weekly. The couple were photographed embracing under a pretty swish looking ivy-draped archway, over at People.com.

Parsekian, the co-CEO of Finding Kind Productions, wore a strapless corseted Armsale gown with pearls, while husband Aaron wore a Burberry tuxedo and custom bow tie. The wedding was a 1920s carnival inspired affair, with a Ferris wheel, swing ride and photo booth, while  blues musician John Mayer played live. Renowned magician David Blaine performed tricks for guests under a traditional red-and-white striped tent.  "Well that was the most magical night of my life," said Parsekian in an Instagram post from the evening. "A day will never go by without me reminding you how special you are. Thanks for last night my pretty little bird," Paul captioned a picture on the photo-sharing site.

The pair first met at the Coachella music festival, with Paul proposing during a Parisian vacation on New Year's Eve 2012. He stars as meth dealer Jesse Pinkman alongside Bryan Cranston in AMC's Breaking Bad. It returns on August 11, 2013 for the final season.

Actor Aaron Paul Has Married Lauren Parsekian!

Aaron Paul

Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul has tied the knot with long-time girlfriend Lauren Parsekian, with the two getting hitched in front for friends and family at the Los Angeles ceremony. According to People, the two married in Malibu this weekend in modest and intimate surroundings. No word on whether there was any blue meth getting handed out at the ceremony.

Paul and Parsekian first met at Coachella Music Festival in 2010, getting engaged on New Years Eve/Day in January 2012. Last year Paul gave a gushing interview to GQ about his then fiancé, explaining the whole proposal in detail. "It's this little courtyard outside of this hotel. We were just dancing to Édith Piaf by ourselves on New Year's and then I begged her to marry me," he said. "She's the greatest woman that has ever existed. No offense to other women on this planet, but she is hands down the best."

Aside from the actual wedding ceremony, the pair were spotted out in Las Vegas last week with friends, celebrating what seemed to be a pre-wedding shindig. Last weeks gathering even included a tribute to the fateful night in Paris, with the bride and groom-to be receiving their own engagement cake, with Paul's including the special message (his alleged words from the night), "My pretty bird, thank you for loving me."

Breaking Bad’s Jesse Pinkman Gets Married – What The!?

Aaron Paul

If you know Jesse Pinkman as well as we do, then you’d think he wasn’t likely to settle down anytime soon. But alas! He has! You also need to know that this article is full of massive spoilers.

Alright, so Jesse Pinkman hasn’t tied the knot. He won’t be ready for a while, if ever, and is still getting over Jane Margolis, who died in season 2 of an overdose. No, it’s Aaron Paul, the genius behind Pinkman, that got married. "It's this little courtyard outside of this hotel. We were just dancing to Édith Piaf by ourselves on New Year's and then I begged her to marry me," he said. "She's the greatest woman that has ever existed," he adoringly told GQ last year. "No offense to other women on this planet, but she is hands down the best." Parsekian is co-founder of the Kind Campaign, a project that works to end girl-against-girl bullying. She and Molly Thompson founded the organization in 2009 while they were students at Pepperdine University. "Aaron rocked a bow tie, and Lauren donned a veil," an onlooker told PEOPLE. "The lovebirds were dancing and canoodling."

Aaron will be returning to screens in August as Breaking Bad reaches its much-anticipated conclusion with the second half of season 5. And we can’t wait to see what he’ll do next having established himself in AMC’s drama.

The Simpsons Tribute Breaking Bad

The Simpsons Aaron Paul

The Simpsons are doing Breaking Bad once again in this week’s episode. The Fox series is paying tribute or poking fun – take your pick – of the AMC drama, now in its final season. Of course, no drugs are actually featured in the opening credits video for The Simpsons. Instead, Marge dons a “Kiss the Cook” apron and goes into her lab... err... kitchen to cook up some blue cupcakes. She then sells them to the neighborhood kids, while Homer lurks suspiciously in the background, wearing Walter White’s trademark black hat. It’s all very suspicious and probably delicious. The entire sequence is set to Tommy James and The Shondells’ Crystal Blue Persuasion and, when the camera pans away, we see Bryan Cranston's Walter White and Aaron Paul's Jesse Pinkman in their lab suits watching the animated show on their own couch.

And this is how we know that Breaking Bad is legit. Emmy awards? Please. A show is only successful after The Simpsons have made fun of it. Now we can all finally relax and watch the fifth season in peace.

The Simpsons, 400th Episode Party
You know a show has reached iconic status when it gets parodied on The Simpsons.
