News that the alleged spin-off was in the works first surfaced in a post on the Stars Wars fan site Making Star Wars, which used the code name "Luminac Industrial Goods" when referring to the project.

Editor-in-Chief of Making Star Wars Jason Ward wrote, "I generally shy away from reporting too much on the specifics of the stand-alone spin-off Star Wars films because we hear so much stuff it can be difficult to know what to take seriously."

"For this reason, we're having to rely pretty much entirely on the sources that have panned out for Star Wars: The Force Awakens," he continued. "So today's information comes from a friend that did give us legit Star Wars: The Force Awakens set photos and more."

The new film would be the first ever Star Wars spin-off and as Ward noted, "Since there has never been a Star Wars spin-off film like what we're about to get, there's no good or bad track record."

Although it isn't clear if Paul will portray a young Han Solo, the source also believes that filming on the new project "will eventually overlap with some of 'Star Wars: Episode VIII'."
