Less than a week ago the much talked about Steve Jobs biopic looked as if it may never come to fruition after Sony Pictures decided to drop the long in development project. However it seems now the film is back on track, this time with Universal Pictures on board.

Michael FassbenderMichael Fassbender is said to be starring as Steve Jobs

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a Universal Studios spokesman has confirmed that a deal was reached for the film, with sources saying that the project had been shopped with a price tag of more than $30 million.

The film will be directed by Slumdog Millionaire and Trainspotting’s Danny Boyle, who will be working from a script by A Few Good Men and The Social Network screenwriter Aaron Sorkin. Scott Rudin, Mark Gordon and Guymon Casady are also said to have signed on as producers.

Currently Michael Fassbender is attached to star as Jobs, replacing Christian Bale who dropped out earlier this month. Seth Rogen is also said to be in talks to play Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.

The biopic has been in development at Sony for the past two years after the studio acquired the rights to Walter Isaacson’s 2011 biography, Steve Jobs. However the studio inexplicably pulled out of the project on November 19th.

In 2012 screen writer Alan Sorkin described his unorthodox structure for the movie to The Daily Beast saying it would play out in just three scenes. "This entire movie is going to be three scenes and three scenes only. That all take place in real time," Sorkin said.

"There will be no time cuts and each will take place before a product launch. Backstage before a product launch. The first one being the Mac, the second one being NeXT, after he had left Apple. And the third one being the iPod.” The film is also thought to heavily feature the character of Job’s daughter Lisa Brennan-Jobs, who Sorkin has described as the ‘heroine of the film’.
