Immersive Abba Exhibition To Open In London

Abba

A new immersive exhibition celebrating the career and impact of Abba is set to open in London later this year, finally giving fans some concrete news after years of rumours about a ‘digital project’ the group have been working on.

The exhibition, named ABBA: Super Troupers, is set to open at the Southbank Centre – appropriately, just a stone’s throw away from Waterloo! – on December 14th and is set to run until April 29th 2018. The first tickets go on sale this Tuesday (July 4th) via the Southbank’s website.

ABBA Celebrate 40 Years Since Their Victorious 'Waterloo' Performance At The Eurovision Song Contest

Abba

In 1974 the virtually unknown foursome got on a Brighton stage to compete for their home nation of Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest, and they left victorious after performing their now famed track 'Waterloo'.

The Brighton Dome audience would not anticipate who the Swedish singers would eventually become, the packed-out crowd was in anticipation to see the British entry perform, which was Olivia Newton John singing 'Long Live Love.'

Bruce Springsteen released his latest album, High Hopes, in the UK last week and at the first time of asking the latest collection of songs from The Boss soared straight to the top of the album chart. Springsteen is now among an elite club of artists who have managed to score 10 No. 1 albums in the UK, with High Hopes unlikely to be his last either.

Abba's greatest hits collection, Gold, edged past the The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band this weekend to become the second highest selling album in UK history. The band have now sold over 5.1million copies of their greatest hits album, with the Official Charts Company indicating over the weekend that the album has surpassed Sgt. Pepper's by 15,000 sales.

The album now only sits behind another best of collection, Queen's Greatest Hits, which has so far sold 5.9million copies. The rest of the top five consists of Adele’s 21, which is 4th having sold 4.6million copies, with Oasis’ 1995 sophomore release (What’s The Story) Morning Glory? completing the top five, selling slightly less than Adele. Speaking to OfficialCharts.com, ABBA founder and songwriter Björn Ulvaeus spoke of his shock at the achievement, saying, 'It’s feels unreal - outselling the greatest record of all time!'

Agnetha Faeltskog, Former ABBA Star, Set To Release Comeback Solo Album

Abba

Agnetha Faeltskog, the reclusive former star of Abba fame, has decided to return to the studio following a nine year absence from recording music. The Swedish songstress announced her retirement from the music industry nearly a decade ago, but her distance from music has proved unsuccessful as the lure of the recording studio was clearly too much for Faeltskog, who is believed to have already returned to her place in front of a microphone to begin recording the new release.

Although being known as 'the quiet one' to the press for most of her life, especially after ABBA disbanded in 1982, she recently told the BBC that this view of her is a disconception. She said, "I have been described as a very mysterious human being and that hurts a little bit, because it's not like that at all."

The singer also discussed how she has taken to writing some of her own material too, although most of the credit for song writing goes to her producers. She told the BBC, "For this album, we had an idea that maybe I should try to write one song. I didn't want to do more. I'm not that composer that composes every day. But it was very exciting to see if it still worked - and it did!"

Surprise Comeback: Abba's Agneta Faltskog Announces New Album 'A'

Abba

Abba singer Agneta Faltskog is staging a pop comeback, at the age of 62. In May, the Swedish singer will release a new album entitled simply ‘A.’ The news has fuelled speculation that we may have an ABBA reunion on our hands but right now, it’s all about Agneta. “Never thought that I’d ever sing again. But hearing the first three songs, I just couldn’t say no!” said Faltskog, in a statement. "I hadn’t written any music for a long, long time,” she explained. “But I sat at the piano, and suddenly it was there."

She has a stellar team on her side; she’s been working with Jorgen Elofsson, who has worked with Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson, Westlife and Celine Dion and a marketing team have nudged the veteran pop star into the world of social networking and building an online presence. Elofsson explains that they approached a new album from Agneta as of she were a new songwriter, without her pedigree. “We wanted to make this as if Agnetha hadn’t entered ABBA,” he said. “We were interested in what she sounded like if she hadn’t been in the group. And yet it’s important that she comes across as we remember her to be.”
