Australian rocker Jimmy Barnes was recovering from back surgery in hospital on Sunday (07Sep14) when his latest album hit the top spot on the Australian music chart.

The 58 year old underwent an operation at the start of the month (Sep14) but suffered complications on Saturday (06Sep14) and was admitted to a medical centre for an emergency procedure.

He spent Australia's Father's Day (07Sep14) recovering in hospital surrounded by family and friends, and also celebrated his 10th number one solo album while under the care of doctors.

Barnes hit the top of the charts Down Under on Sunday with his latest disc 30:30 Hindsight.

The musician has cancelled all events scheduled for this week (beg08Sep14) so he can rest at home following his discharge from the facility.

In a post on Facebook.com, he writes, "Unfortunately I've had to pull out of tomorrow's Q and A (question-and-answer) on (network) ABC as per the doctors orders. Surgery went well, and will be resting up for the next week."
