It's the seventeenth century, and despite what the Bible might say about the importance of spreading the Christian word of God throughout the world, there are just some places on this Earth that brutally forbid it. Needless to say, Ferreira has been ousted from the church to which he belongs after publicly denouncing his faith to save his own life. Rodgrigues and Garrpe are about to discover just how violent the world can be towards everything that they've ever worked for when they arrive in Japan. Surely there is no test of faith that can match the journey that lies ahead for them.

Terry Gilliam Confirms 'Don Quixote' Movie Will Finally Be Made This Year - With Adam Driver To Thank

Terry Gilliam Adam Driver Michael Palin

After nearly twenty years of trying to get it off the ground, director Terry Gilliam claims that he’s finally getting the chance to make his Don Quixote movie – and apparently, the success of the Star Wars movie is to thank for it.

His latest proposal for the project, which has reportedly been unsuccessfully launched on seven separate occasions going back nearly two decades, involves Adam Driver portraying a character based on the Spanish adventurer’s loyal servant Sancho Panza, while Gilliam’s old ‘Monty Python’ colleague Michael Palin is to play Don Quixote himself.

Midnight Special Review

Excellent

Gifted director Jeff Nichols takes on another genre in his fourth film with actor Michael Shannon, after Shotgun Stories, Take Shelter and Mud. This one's an involving character-based sci-fi adventure made in the style of classic films like E.T. or Close Encounters. As the characters are thrown into an extraordinary situation, the story gradually reveals its fantastical secrets without resorting to the usual overblown blockbuster formula, which makes the movie remarkably resonant and genuinely thrilling.

Shannon plays Roy, a man who is on the run across Texas with his 8-year-old son Alton (Jaeden Lieberher) and his childhood friend Lucas (Joel Edgerton), who's now a state trooper. And the FBI is on their trail, investigating the religious cult they escaped from. Led by the defiant Calvin (Sam Shepard), the cult seems to have been centred around the unusual ability Alton has to gather information from government satellites. Which is why the FBI is so intent on tracking him down. Working with the FBI, NSA Agent Sevier (Adam Driver) is fascinated by Alton's abilities, and he begins to worry what might happen if the boy is captured. Meanwhile, Roy and Lucas have reunited with Alton's mother Sarah (Kirsten Dunst) and are continuing their journey across the American South. And time is clearly of the essence, since Alton is growing seriously ill.

Writer-director Nichols skilfully keeps the audience gripped by the central mystery, dropping in hints and revelations along the way that slowly build up to the final big picture. This forces the viewer into the same perspective as the characters, who don't have a clue what's going on but are gripped by the possibilities of what they're witnessing. This also makes it impossible to predict where the story might go next as it cycles through action, humour, emotion and exhilarating drama. Through all of this, the actors all offer beautiful textures in their characters, underplaying even the most intense scenes to make them feel strikingly realistic.

Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens Review

Essential

Appealing both to a new generation of viewers and fans of the series since the beginning, this 30-years-later sequel to 1983's Return of the Jedi is a thrilling adventure. Filmmaker J.J. Abrams has managed to capture the tone of the original trilogy while telling a story about young, vibrant new characters whose connection to the overall saga deepens intriguingly as events unfurl.

Over the past three decades, the Empire has regrouped, forming the First Order to crush the Old Republic for good. And the plucky Rebellion hasn't offered much resistance since leader Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) disappeared. The Empire's top henchman Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) is searching for him just as diligently as the rebel leader General Leia (Carrie Fisher). But the real action is happening out of their grasp, as disaffected storm trooper Finn (John Boyega) teams up with rebel pilot Poe (Oscar Isaac) and then feisty scavenger Rey (Daisy Ridley) and expressive droid BB-8. Along the way, Han Solo and Chewbacca (Harrison Ford and Peter Mayhew) find themselves back in the fray. And everyone is startled when there's a strong stirring in the force.

Abrams beautifully recreates the scruffy, clanky mechanical atmosphere of the original trilogy, infusing scenes with witty banter and John William's soaring score to throw us right back into that familiar galaxy. This includes the saga's main themes: the temptation of power, how true heroism is often accidental, and the tension between parents and children. Combine this with a plot that propels itself with a series of unexpected adventures and battles, all centred on the characters, and the film taps strongly into the teen in all of us.

Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens TV Spot Trailer

After the victory of the Rebel Alliance over the Galactic Empire and subsequent demolition of The Death Star, you'd imaging life in a certain galaxy would be a little more subdued, but as we soon learn, life for Princess Leia, Luke and Hans wasn't exactly easy following their small yet essential victory.

30 years on and to most citizens - humanoid and alien - the stories of evil Lord Darth Vader and the Jedi Masters are just a legend, a story they tell their children that starts with the well-known overture: 'A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away'. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the seventh film in the Star Wars series and is an additional story to the original Star Wars outline.

The film follows a set of new characters as they join the battle and fight the evil forces once again threatening to destroy their galaxy. The Force Awakens was directed by Jj Abrams and sees a number of cast favourites return to the story including Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher.

Adam Driver Takes Time Out Of Star Wars Filming To Talk About What Makes The Series So Great

Adam Driver

Ahead of the greatly anticipated release of the seventh Star Wars film next year, Adam Driver, one of the new cast members took a moment to talk about what made Star Wars so special to him and millions of fans as children. According to Driver, the films have such a lifespan because of their grounded nature and ability to mimic relatable scenarios in a sci-fi fantasy setting.

In his interview with Total Film, Driver stated: "The thing about Star Wars that's so good - sure there's this huge [canvas]. It's space, it's a long time ago in a galaxy far away. That's set up immediately. But in the midst of all those things, what has made those movies last so long is that they're all grounded."

'What If': We Now Know That Daniel Radcliffe Does Indie Rom-Coms, Well

Daniel Radcliffe Zoe Kazan Adam Driver

Daniel Radcliffe is eliciting another couple of thousand words this week, on whether he can safely navigate a "post-Harry Potter" movie career. The reason for this is What If - a new indie romantic-comedy starring the Wizard Boy himself as medical school dropout Wallace who's been repeatedly burned by bad relationships.

Daniel Radcliffe Zoe KazanDaniel Radcliffe [L] and Zoe Kazan [R] in 'What If'

It's got all the hallmarks of a sort of...new...(500) Days of Summer. It's got the cool guy from Girls (Adam Driver), who plays Wallace's roommate Allan. It's got the cool girl from Ruby Sparks (Zoe Kazan), who plays an animator living with her steady long-term boyfriend. The thing is: Wallace forms an instant connection with Kazan's character - but can they ever be just friends? Yep, so it all sounds horrendously formulaic - but isn't that what we want from our indie romantic comedies? We want Brooklyn apartments that the characters couldn't ever afford in real life. We want coffee shops and skinny lattes and little dogs and Adam Driver and maybe, just maybe, we want Daniel Radcliffe.

Rumors Persist Despite 'Star Wars Episode VII' Cast Announcement

Jj Abrams Oscar Isaac Adam Driver

We waited months for an official word on the Star Wars Episode VII cast, but even after a photo was released on the official Star Wars Website to announce the actors old and new, rumors persist surrounded further cast members and further revelations.

Star Wars

And they’re not unfounded. It’s true that Abrams had to rush out a cast announcement ahead of May 4 – which is known by many as Star Wars day (may the Fourth be with you, etc). And that throws up many questions; could everyone make the read-through that day? Is the casting process completely finished? Were some people written out when Abrams and “Empire Strikes Back” writer Lawrence Kasdan retooled the script?

Star Wars Episode VII, We've Got The Cast, Now Lets Guess The Roles

Harrison Ford Adam Driver Jj Abrams Daisy Ridley

After months of rumors, speculation and a whole lot of nothing from Jj Abrams’s we were admittedly taken aback when the Star Wars Episode VII cast was officially unveiled yesterday. Alongside original stars Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker, Star Wars Episode VII will add seven new faces to the franchise. John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow have all been announced as joining the Star Wars cast, but sadly that’s where news ends as we don’t yet know who any of these actors will be playing. So armed with a leaked casting call list, lets try and work out who might be playing who in Episode VII.

Oscar IsaacOscar Isaac Is Set For Star Wars Episode 7

'Girls' actor Adam Driver was one of the early names we’d pretty much pegged as a definite for the Episode VII cast. As of now the general consensus seems to be that Driver will be having a villainous turn in Episode VII. More specifically his character is thought to be an intelligent and scheming Sith. Thirty year old Driver could fit the decryption of either the confident late twenty something male that producers were looking for, or the intellectual thirtysomething. Then there’s Oscar Issac, the 35 year old actor best known for Inside Llewyn Davis, was the last and ultimately correct casting rumour. Character actor Oscar is one who has definitely got us stumped, really he could turn his hand to any type of character, wether it be hero or villain. It will surely be interesting to see which role Issac is eventually announced in.

If Star Wars: Episode VII were any more shrouded in mystery we wouldn’t even know it was being made. Thankfully, a few small details are trickling through JJ Abrams privacy forcefield and we’re beginning to get a better idea of what we can expect. The cast has finally been announced and we all breathed a huge sigh of relief to hear that original cast members Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker and Anthony Daniels would all be reprising their roles.

Oscar Isaac Is Latest Star Wars Episode VII Cast Rumor - Big Reveal Soon?

Oscar Isaac Adam Driver Jj Abrams Star Wars

It looks as though J.J Abrams is keeping his cards as close to his chest as is humanly possible, but some day soon, we’re going to need to know that Star Wars Episode VII cast, okay? Oscar Isaac is the latest rumored to be joining Adam Driver and ‘Attack the Block’s’ John Boyega in the high profile sequel.

Star WarsAre Ford, Hammil and Fisher all returning for more of this?

Isaac would be a great addition to the cast. He has shown great on-screen flexibility so far, playing the hard-headed, troublesome punk of a dad that went ahead and died to leave Cary Mulligan open to Ryan Gosling’s overtures in ‘Drive’, and most recently, his brilliant turn as Oscar Isaac, the self-loathing, selfish, quite-talented musician in the Coen Brothers’ ‘Inside Llewyn Davis’ has attracted attention; although there won’t be a call for singing in Episode VII. At least we hope not.

Lena Dunham At SXSW - A Case Study In Not Hating Celebrities, Even When They're Wrong

Lena Dunham Allison Williams Zosia Mamet Adam Driver

Lena Dunham’s speech at SXSW was everything her supporters wanted it to be. The Girls creator did apologize again for that highly publicized molestation tweet – an actual full apology this time. It was about time, after the Twitter hate had been simmering for a couple of days. At the time she tweeted: ”I just made and deleted a not so great molestation joke. Sorry guys. I am really sleepy. SNL has a way bigger audience than our usual cozy girls audience, so I was seeing a rash of very different kinds of twitter rage.”

Lena Dunham gets it wrong often, but when it's right, it's very, very right.

In back-to-back tweets she added, “But I should know better, and do. Even naked girls get embarrassed. Sleep well and thanks for an amazing weekend.” It wasn’t enough to quell that infamous online rage. More to the point, Dunham talked about her experience in filmmaking, about funding for projects and her favorite topic, women in film and television, according to Variety. Dunham explained her “beg, borrow and steal” mentality when it comes to filmmaking. In the early days of her career, she maxed out a credit card, donated her $5,000 worth of babysitting funds, borrowed money from her parents and her best friend’s parents to make her DIY movies. According to her philosophy, creators have to create, no excuses. As she put it, “lack of budget is no longer an excuse. (I realized) holding up a camera and letting people wander around documentary style is no longer acceptable.”

Lena Dunham Goes All Old Testament On SNL

Lena Dunham Taran Killam Adam Driver Kerry Washington

Lena Dunham hosted and helped out the SNL team with a few sketches last night. And it was hilarious – mostly if you’re a Girls fan. Much has been written about Dunham’s Girls – mostly about its white-washed, middle-class, spoiled and completely self-unaware cast of characters. At least no one can say that Dunham herself lacks self-awareness though.

Lena Dunham, Girls SNL Premiere
Put Dunham and the SNL cast together and the fun never ends. Sort of.

In a sketch, based on the recent trend of religious flicks – Son of God and Noah being to prime examples – Taran Killan played Adam Driver as the Adam to Dunham’s Eve. The sketch was perfectly on point - wonder if it'll win the show some new viewers? Girls fans will recognize lines like: “Can you please not apple-shame me? I know I committed original sin, but at least it's original. I think I deserve some credit for that—or at least a publishing deal…”

Lincoln - Trailer Trailer

'Lincoln' will show the last four months of President Abraham Lincoln's life as he campaigned for freedom before he was tragically assassinated in 1865. It will reveal in detail the extent of his conflict with various members of the cabinet over his decision to abolish the slave trade towards the end of the American Civil War. His very close success in the House of Representatives over the proposition of the Thirteenth Amendment which outlawed slavery is portrayed as one of the most crucial steps in his work against the trade. The last months of his life also saw him fail to negotiate an end to the War and saw the Union's ultimate victory.

This drama-fuelled biopic is the important story of one of the most influential and inspiring presidents of the United States that have ever been in office. It has been based on some of the biography 'Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln' by Doris Kearns Goodwin with an adapted screenplay by Oscar nominee Tony Kushner ('Munich') and the directing genius of the legendary Steven Spielberg ('Jaws', 'E.T.', 'Jurassic Park', 'Schindler's List', 'War of the Worlds') who wanted to show Lincoln 'at work' and not just 'posing for the history books'. Spielberg has described the former president as 'arguably the greatest working President in American history'. The movie is set for release in the UK on January 25th 2013.

Starring: Daniel Day Lewis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones , Michael Stuhlbarg, Jackie Earle Haley, Jared Harris, Lee Pace, Sally Field, James Spader, Julie White, John Hawkes, David Strathairn, Bruce McGill, Hal Holbrook and Adam Driver.
