Adam Levine was voted People’s Sexiest Man Alive for 2013. If that sounds a bit off to you, you wouldn’t be alone. The announcement prompted mild uproar from People readers and other internet dwellers. Some Facebook and Twitter users offered up their own suggestions for the… coveted honor, including Henry Cavill, Chris Hemsworth and Ryan Gosling. At this point there are even several lists of alternative sexy men, floating out there in the ether. Leonardo DiCapprio, Donald Glover, and even Sir Patrick Stewart have also been mentioned.

Adam Levine, The Voice Season Premiere
The title left more than a few readers disgruntled.

Seriously interntet, we get it. You all like to make lists of your celebrity crushes. There’s no shame in that, but let’s not hurt Mr. Levine’s feelings here. Before we all start writing Change.org petitions (remember when those were for actual causes?) let’s take stock.

Apparently, the Maroon 5 frontman was himself very surprised by the title, as he explained in his People interview. "As a musician, you have fantasies that you want to win Grammys, but I didn't really think that this was on the table," the singer tells People in this week's cover story. "I was just amazed and stunned and it almost seemed like they were kidding, but they weren't, so that's cool."

Ryan Gosling, Only God Forgives ScreeningLeonardo DiCaprio, LACMA 2013
Leonardo Dicaprio and Ryan Gosling have both been suggested as alternatives for the honor.

According to the article, Mr Levine enjoys long walks on the beach… no, wait, wrong sexy list. But he does cry at movies apparently and is looking forward to settling down with his fiancée, Victoria’s Secret model Behati Prinsloo. So what’s not to like? Humble, successful, committed, in touch with his emotions. Yeah, he’s not Ryan Gosling, but Adam Levine definitely isn’t a bad choice. Now that we have that sorted, feel free to continue ranking hot people. As you were.

Adam Levine, New York
Mr. Levine definitely has his good sides.
