Adam Sandler has been one of the favoured punching bags of movie critics for countless years now, but that hasn’t been reflected in commercial terms, with Netflix revealing that subscribers have spent approximately half a BILLION hours watching his movies.

The online streaming giant, which has around 99 million paying customers for its services, revealed its first-quarter earnings for 2017 on Monday (April 17th), and it showed that their decision to collaborate with Sandler for original content movies is paying off.

This year’s Golden Raspberry Award nominations have been released, with Fifty Shades of Grey and Jupiter Ascending leading the pack. The annual awards celebrate the very worst in movies over the past year and two films have picked up six nominations each, including Worst Picture and Worst Director.

Fifty Shades Of Grey’s stars Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson also both picked up nominations for Worst Actor and Worst Actress, respectively. The couple also jointly picked up a nomination for Worst Screen Combo.

Johnny Depp has received the unfortunate honour of topping Forbes' annual list of Hollywood’s most overpaid actors. Last year Depp was ranked number two on the list, but thanks to recent films Mortdecai and Transcendence he’s managed to dethrone Adam Sandler who has previously topped the list two years in a row.

Johnny Depp has been crowned Hollywood’s most overpaid actor.

According to Forbes, Depp’s Mortdecai grossed just $47 million at the box office, on a $60 million budget. While Transcendence barely made back its $100 million production costs, meaning Depp returned a mere $1.20 for every $1 he was paid.

10. A Glimpse Inside The Mind Of Charles Swan III - Charlie Sheen exploits his bad-boy image in this fractured comedy in which he plays a paranoid idiot who thinks his ex is trying to kill him. But the story is wafer-thin, and the film is almost overpoweringly indulgent.

9. Pain & Gain - Michael Bay's comedy may feature enjoyably offhanded performances from Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson, but it's also the year's most offensive movie. Playing a true-life murder for laughs is only the first mistake.

Following a disastrous first date, Jim and Lauren end up both taking their families on a “romantic getaway” in Africa (the exact country is never specified, at least not in the trailer).

Dylan Sprouse, one half of Zack and Cody, has been left a little red faced after his risqué mirror selfies were leaked on the internet. Rather than hide in shame and pretend the photos weren't of him, the former child star admitted on Twitter that he slipped up and did his best at styling out the unfortunate blunder.

21 year-old identical twin actors Dylan and Cole Sprouse rose to fame after starring as Adam Sandler's son in 1999's Big Daddy and went on to act in many more movies and the Disney Channel sitcom, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. Dylan may be 15 minutes older than his brother but this hasn't prevented their fans' shock at seeing the teen heartthrob posing in the buff.

It may have been easier to pretend the photos were a hoax and weren't of Dylan had the star not only photographed his bare body but his face as well. One image shows the New York University student standing in front of the bathroom mirror in his Calin Klein whites whilst feebly flexing a muscle. However, another showed a closer, headless shot of the actor in the same bathroom completely naked apart from his hand cupping a badly-concealed manhood.

Adam Sandler was unsurprisingly named the most overpaid actor in Hollywood this week - which was fairly obvious to everyone, anyway. Despite some sizable successes in the past 15 years or so, the 47-year-old has suffered a slew of horrible movies that have returned only middling amounts at the box office.

Forbes magazine has released its list of Most Overpaid Actors in 2013 which highlights individuals whose wages aren't justified by the film's box office earnings.

Kristen Stewart managed to earn half a million dollars in only 15 minutes, and if that wasn't impressive enough, the money she made was donated straight to charity. The Twilight star caught the attention of an unnamed Middle Eastern Prince, who was so taken with the actress that he forked out the huge sum for just 15 minutes of her time.

According to film producer Harvey Weinstein, Kristen was helping to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Sandy when Weinstein was approached about spending some one-on-one time with Kristen by the mysterious, ultra-rich Middle Eastern monarch. Initially dismissing the requests, Kristen soon caught wind of what was happening and was actually willing to meet with the high-paying Prince, leading Weinstein to broker a deal to arrange the meet-up. Sounds seedy doesn't it?

The Wolverine, Hugh Jackman's latest vehicle to star as one of the X Men's most famous recruits; Wolverine, shot straight to the top of the US Box Office this weekend and many other film charts across the globe. Domestically, the film underachieved, taking in a lower-than-expected $55 million, however it's performance overseas gave bosses 20th Century Fox something to celebrate as it brought in roughly $86.1 million, meaning that it has already recouped it's estimated $120 million budget.

In spite of the major overseas takings, with the film managing to reach the number 1 spot in 100 countries, the $55m in takings that the film brought in throughout North America is at least $10 million below expectations, and a far cry from the $85.1 million opening that the universally panned X-Men Origins: Wolverine managed to make in early May 2009. With a much better critical reception this time round, some forecasters were predicting the film to go on and beat that number, but with such an encouraging stake in the overseas market, we doubt producers will be losing too much rest over what could be a sleeper hit in the domestic market. Still, with such an underwhelming domestic take, mirroring such recently released flops as R.I.P.D., After Earth and The Lone Ranger, are these poor figures a reflection of a recession-hit economy, or of an audience no longer interested in such throwaway action films?

Yeah, we had a feeling this might happen. The $190 million budget of Pacific Rim is seemingly looking further away than ever after Guillermo Del Toro's blockbuster took just $38.3 million on its box-office debut over the weekend. The Idris-Elba starring movie - which courted mainly negative reviews - is now on course to become a loss making movie for Thomas Tull's Legendary Pictures.

As expected, it was the superb Despicable Me 2 that maintained the No.1 spot on its second weekend, grossing $44.8 million for a domestic total of $229.2 million and establishing itself as one of the success stories of the year. The animated flick featuring the voices of Russell Brand and Steve Carell also topped the global box office for the weekend with $100.5 million in ticket sales, Pacific Rim followed with $91.3 million. 

Sony executives will have been jumping for joy on Sunday, with news that Adam Sandler's comedy sequel Grown Ups 2 opened to a stellar $42.5 million domestically. In fact, Sony were so happy they released a cheery statement for us all to read, via the Hollywood Reporter:

The focus on Hollywood actor Adam Sandler has rapidly switched from last night's joyous Grown Ups 2 premiere in New York to the latest news that he was attacked by a cheetah whilst on African safari with his family. There are few more terrifying happenings to imagine whilst on African safari than being mauled by a hefty big cat and Sandler was lucky that this time a handler was nearby to wrench the brawling beast from the Happy Gilmore comic's back.

Speaking on David Letterman's CBS show, Sandler spoke of how he was enjoying his family holiday on safari when he was invited to enter an enclosure with some rescued animals. The keeper suggested that he could feed the captured cheetah with water from his hands and Adam bent down to a pool to scoop some up. Like most living creatures, the sight of Sandler must have irritated the furry wildcat who seemingly went in for the kill, leaping upon the Jack and Jill actor's back as the 46 year-old tried to stand up in surprise.

Adam Sandler's Grown Ups 2 has been universally panned by critics. The movie is released today (12th July) in US cinemas. Early reviews indicate the movie will be a huge success with teenagers across the States but will do anything but impress grown-ups.

New York Post's Sara Stewart said the film "lurches from one gross-out scene to another" without any regard for "continuity or logic". Following in a similar line of thought is Claudia Puig of USA Today, who said Grown Ups 2 is "lazy, scattershot and anything-but-mature".

All of the film's stars showed up on the red carpet in New York last night at the premiere of the new movie that looks to be hilarious. According to Yahoo! Movies, Adam Sandler led the rest of the cast, including Chris Rock, Kevin James, David Spade and Salma Hayek, down the red carpet at the AMC Loews Lincoln Square.

Directed by Dennis Dugan, in Grown Ups 2 we'll see Lenny Feder (Sandler) three years on from the events of Grown Ups where he has moved back to his small hometown with his wife (Hayek) and kids to reunite with his old friends (Rock/James/Spade) and their families. The film will focus on the kids' last day of the school year and the inevitable mishaps and unpredictable surprises. The tagline for the film is "Just because they're a little older doesn't mean they've grown up" and certainly, don't expect any high-brow humour here.

The night before Hollywood got glammed up in back-patting mode at the Oscars, the annual Razzies ceremony – an antidote to the self-congratulatory narcissism of the Oscars – took a more cynical look at the big movies of the last 12 months. Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart’s Twilight – Breaking Dawn Part 2 was the big winner (well, loser) of the evening, landing seven of the awards.

Kristen Stewart ‘won’ Worst Actress though we’re unclear as to whether or not this had anything to do with her sporting a pair of crutches at the Oscars the next evening. She told Anne Hathaway that she’d trodden on glass, but the sight of her hobbling around in her Oscars gown will certainly bump up the sympathy levels. Stewart’s co-star Taylor Lautner also ‘won’ a Razzie for his performance in the final Twilight movie and although Robert Pattinson didn’t quite get his name engraved on one of the awards, as such, the movie still landed the ‘Worst Screen Ensemble’ award, Reuters reports.

Rihanna also got a pasting, for her role in the frankly terrible ‘Battleship’ and of course, the Razzis is simply no longer The Razzies if Adam Sandler doesn’t get a look-in. Last year, he famously took home all ten of the awards. Except no one actually takes the awards home, because naturally, they don’t actually attend the evening of humiliation. The Razzies weren’t done with trying to take down Sandler’s career just yet, though. This year, he landed two golden raspberry statuettes: Worst Actor and Worst Screenplay, for his comedy That’s My Boy.

A spoof of the Academy Awards, this year's Razzies' picks arrived just one day before Thursday's Oscar nominations. So which directors, actors and actresses will have let out a giant, "NOOOOOOOOOOOO" when catching wind of the infamous nominations today? And perhaps more importantly, who should win (or lose). The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2, one of the most successfully grossing films of last year, heads up the Razzie Awards shortlist for the award no one wants to win – Worst Picture. Whilst the Twilight series has made big name stars out of the likes of Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and Dakota Fanning, its run of films has consistently been panned by ever more desperate critics, eager to see it fail.

If reviewers haven’t had much luck derailing Twilight’s momentum, though, then they certainly did a good job of blunting the momentum of the others going up against it for this year’s Razzie. The BBC reports that high-profile failures Battleship - a film based on the board game (they probably could’ve predicted that before even going to pre-production) – and Eddie Murphy’s disastrous turn in A Thousand Words are among the contenders, with the Adam Sandler-starring That’s My Boy and sickly kids film The Oogieloves in the Big Balloon Adventure making up the numbers. It’s fair to say that all these movies took quite the tongue-lashing. Here are some choice quotes from the critics:

Eddie Murphy was honoured by his peers for his outstanding contribution to film, TV, music and stand-up over his 30 + year career.

Chris Rock, Jamie Foxx, Adam Sandler, and Russell Brand were just some of the famous faces at the Beverley Hills gala being aired on Spike later this month (it airs Nov. 14 at 10 p.m. on Spike). Murphy's friends and co-stars had nothing but praise for Murphy, with his appearances on such comedy classics as Coming To America and The Beverley Hills Cop being recalled by co-stars Arsenio Hall and Judge Reinhold. Jeffrey Katzenberg of Dreamworks Animation also gave his heart to Murphy's Donkey character from the Shrek films, whilst his Life co-star, Martin Lawrence, told him from onstage, “You’ve got a friend for life."

There were also video highlights from the funny man's seminal stand-up performances from the 80's, Raw and Delirious, although despite much attempted persuasion Murphy declined to get back on stage and perform stand up again.

This week's top Box Office successes come as something of a surprise; While Ben Affleck's newest directorial offering, Argo, was a massive critical success, it still failed to beat Taken 2, which clings onto the number one spot despite utterly awful critical responses. Here is our box-office roundup for the week:

The extraordinary success of the Liam Neeson thriller, Taken 2, has continued, with the film now grossing a domestic taking of $86.1m over two weeks. Argo, in contrast, which has already been dubbed “one of the best movies of the year” by Rolling Stone, took just over $19m in its first week: over $2m less than Taken 2's second week. Adam Sandler's Hotel Transylvania is still fairing well, coming in at #4 in its third week with takings of $17.2m, which is excellent for a kids film. Tim Burton's Frankenweenie on the other hand has slipped right down to 7th place in its second week, taking just $7m which will no doubt come as a surprise and disappointment for the Halloween film veteran.

The rest of the top ten looks a little something like this; in at #3 is week one of horror movie Sinister which took $18m, Here Comes the Boom opens at #5 with $11m, #6 is Pitch Perfect with $9.2m, Looper slips to #8th in its third week with £6.2m. British comedy Seven Psychopaths is at #9 taking almost $4.2 and finally, Perks of Being a Wallflower stays in the top ten for a fourth week with $2.1m.

Action-thriller Taken 2 performed remarkably well at this weekend’s Box Office, gleaning $50m in one of the most successful October debuts. The Liam Neeson thriller beat out Frankenweenie – last week’s chart-topper - with ease. Here’s our Box Office roundup.

Hurtling into the #1 spot, Taken 2 used some of the good grace from its predecessor to take the weekend by storm. Whist Taken was considered a commercial and critical success, the sequel can only really claim the former, as the critics have all but panned the revenge thriller. Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie endured a slow start with a paltry return of $11.5 million. The Disney release about a boy who brings his dead dog back to life was expected to do better, so will face increased scrutiny in the weeks to come. Another ‘comedy-horror’, Hotel Transylvania dropped to second-place with $26.3m. So far, Adam Sandler's animated hit film has earned $76m domestically and $105.3m worldwide, in an impressive first week. Pitch Perfect climbed three to #3 with $14.7m, while time-travel thriller Looper fell to #4 with $12.2m.

The rest of the top 10 looks something like this: End of Watch at #6 with $4 million. Trouble with the Curve comes in at #7 with $3.9 million. Horror film, House at the End of the Street drops to #8 with $3.7 million. At #9 is Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master with $1.8 million, and the 3D re-release of the aquatic fun-time tale Finding Nemo is at #10 with $1.6 million.

Movie comedian Adam Sandler booked his father's favourite singer, Leon Redbone, to sing at is wedding. Sandler's father, Stan, was dying when he assured him that he would make it to the star's wedding. In order to say 'thank you', Sandler treated his father to a live performance from his favourite musician just for him. He explained the reasoning with: "It was so that my father could have a great night. He was like, 'This is great,' and my mother whispers to him, 'You couldn't say Pavarotti?'"

Sadly, Sandler's father died not long after the wedding took place, and was followed by a series of deaths in the family. This ended with the death of the star's bulldog, Meatball, who passed earlier in February, 2004. The '50 First Dates' star noticed that his father had to die before the family pet, saying: When Meatball died we had a big shiva. 100 people came up to our house and we traded Meatball stories. I had a cantor come up and sing prayers for the dog and I know that if my father was alive, he'd be like, 'Just bury him, you moron. It's a dog.'"
