Johnny Depp Tops List Of Hollywood's Most Overpaid Actors For 2015

Johnny Depp Denzel Washington Will Ferrell Liam Neeson Will Smith Adam Sandler

Johnny Depp has received the unfortunate honour of topping Forbes' annual list of Hollywood’s most overpaid actors. Last year Depp was ranked number two on the list, but thanks to recent films Mortdecai and Transcendence he’s managed to dethrone Adam Sandler who has previously topped the list two years in a row.

Johnny DeppJohnny Depp has been crowned Hollywood’s most overpaid actor.

According to Forbes, Depp’s Mortdecai grossed just $47 million at the box office, on a $60 million budget. While Transcendence barely made back its $100 million production costs, meaning Depp returned a mere $1.20 for every $1 he was paid.

Adam Sandler Named Most Overpaid Actor In Hollywood

Adam Sandler

Hardly a Christmas surprise for everyone, but Adam Sandler has been named the most overpaid actor again. Forbes compile the list based on the actor who earned the biggest salary for the smallest box office returns - which begs the question: why do studios keep giving Sandler a ton of cash to make a bad film that doesn't make any money?

Grown Ups 2Grown Ups 2 was actually a hit for Adam Sandler.

Anyway, according to this year's list, for every $1 that Sandler was paid to make these string of bad films, he brought in just $3.20. For the list, Forbes compared earning estimates from the Celebrity 100 list, which Sandler ranks high on owing to his commanding fees.

Have 'Blended' Co-Stars, Drew Barrymore & Adam Sandler, Ever Dated?

Adam Sandler

Drew Barrymore & Adam Sandler are Hollywood's most adorable on-screen couples, but many have always wondered if their chemistry together ever blossomed off-screen.

The acting duo, who star in the new comedy 'Blended,' finally got the chance to clarify if they have ever dated or slept together, while appearing on 'Chelsea Lately' on Thursday (May 22nd).

"Have you guys ever dated? Have you ever hooked up or [had] penetration," the talk-show host jokingly asked.

Blended marks the third time Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler have teamed up on-screen, recapturing the strong chemistry that made both The Wedding Singer (1998) and 50 First Dates (2004) such big hits. Adam Sandler Is 'Most Overpaid,' But List Includes Cage, Carell, DENZEL!

Adam Sandler

Adam Sandler makes roughly $15 million (approx. £10 million) per movie thanks to his many box office successes in the late 90's and early 2000's, however that sum is becoming more difficult to justify with the succession of poorly-received movies he has starred in. Because of this, Forbes have ranked him as the 'Most Overpaid Actor' available to hire today.

Adam Sandler
All that money and Sandler still can't afford a decent suit

Taking his last three films into consideration, including the slated Jack and Jill and the box office bomb That's My Boy, Forbes go on to estimate that for every dollar paid out to Sandler, the studio in charge of the films made an average of just $3.40 in return. Still, Sandler isn't alone in demanding too much despite seemingly being past his sell-by, as the list goes on to name and shame others.

Meet Robert Downey Jr, Forbes' Highest Paid Actor In The World

Robert Downey Jr Channing Tatum Steven Soderbergh Hugh Jackman Mark Wahlberg Adam Sandler Denzel Washington Tom Cruise Leonardo Dicaprio Liam Neeson Jon Favreau

Robert Downey Jr, the star of The Avengers and Iron Man 3 - two of the biggest grossing movies in history, has been named Forbes' highest paid actor on the planet with annual estimated earnings of $75 million.

The 48-year-old - who's enjoyed somewhat of a career resurgence over the past decade thanks to Marvel's big-budget blockbusters - pulled in more than $1 billion at the box-office.

Though Downey Jr is the predictable No.1, perhaps most surprising is the entry of Channing Tatum in second place on this year's list. The new father who both financed and starred in Steven Soderbergh's Magic Mike, made around $60 million.

Despicable Me 2's Box Office Conquest Over Grown Ups 2

Steve Carell Adam Sandler Guillermo Del Toro Chris Rock David Spade Kevin James

In this weekend's battle of the light-hearted sequels, Despicable Me 2 has come out on top of the weekend's movie charts in the United States and Canada beating Adam Sandler comedy Grown Ups 2, despite the children's animation having been released on July 3rd in both countries. Despicable Me 2 raked in $44.8 million (£29.6m) from Friday to Sunday, leaving Grown Ups 2 slightly behind with takings of $42.5 million (£28.1m) in its first US weekend, according to Reuters. Though Grown Ups 2 is only marginally behind on its first days of release, it can't be an easy pill to swallow for actor Sandler who not only had his movie panned by critics before it was even released, but also had to relive the ordeal of being mauled by a cheetah whilst on safari in Africa on David Letterman's show.

Razzies: The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2, The Worst Film Of The Year

Kristen Stewart Robert Pattinson Adam Sandler

As the world's attention turns to the Oscars, spare a thought for the WORST movies of the year, celebrated this weekend at the annual Razzies awards. Unfortunately for Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and co, it was The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 that took home the evening's best (or worst) prizes.

Nominated in eleven categories in total, the final movie in the vampire franchise won seven Razzies including Worst Director, Worst Actress for Kristen Stewart and of course the big one, Worst Picture. Taylor Lautner and Mackenzie Foy also took home the award for Worst Couple, in dishonour of the bizarre plot that saw Jacob falling in love with Bella and Edward's new-born daughter.

It turned out to be a rather successful night for Adam Sandler, the undisputed king of the Razzies who won an unprecedented 10 awards at last year's ceremony for the frankly terrible Jack and Jill. This year he took home just the one statuette, for Worst Actor in That's My Boy, which also won the prize for Worst Screenplay. On the unsurprising result, Razzies founder John Wilson said: "I have a pet theory, which is that the box office on 'Twilight' films is very impressive, but my theory is that instead of 40 million individual girls going to see it, it's 8 million girls going to see it five times each. People who love those movies just adore them."

Twilight And Kristen Stewart Win (Lose?) Big At The Razzies

Kristen Stewart Robert Pattinson Bill Condon Taylor Lautner Rihanna Adam Sandler

Few movies feel complete without a baddy that you can lavish hate upon, whose own driving negative force encourages the hero to become the hero. Likewise, great movies couldn't be truly great if there weren't the equally bad ones to put it all into perspective. And that's what the Razzies celebrates: the absolute worst in cinema. While 2012 brought us some of the best films in a long time, it was also ripe for the pickings for terrible, terrible cinematic experiences as well.

The final offering from The Twilight Saga, Breaking Dawn Part 2 swept up many Golden Raspberries and should feel proud that they did so, as they're certainly not going to be winning anything at tonight's Oscars. Star, Kristen Stewart, who appears as wooden in interviews as she does playing any character, left with Best Actress for both Twilight and Snow White and the Huntsmen. Taylor Lautner got best supporting actor, Bill Condon worst director and worst screen couple went to Lautner and Mackenzie Foy. That last one should be shared with the write of the books, Stephanie Meyer, as the relationship was tantamount to paedophilia. The film as a whole also scored worst screen ensemble and worst remake, rip-off or sequel.

12-12-12 Benefit Concert Raises Over $30 Million For Hurricane Relief

Rolling Stones Bruce Springsteen Nirvana Kristen Stewart Adam Sandler Blake Lively

The 12-12-12 Concert, which took place on, yes, the 12th this month, was a rousing success, with over 20 million viewers tuning in nation-wide and $30 million raised, according to Nielsen estimates.

The lineup was an eclectic mix of big names in the business like Bruce Springsteen, Nirvana along with Sir Paul McCartney (that was definitely a curious collaboration), Alicia Keys and Eric Clapton, among others. It featured a number of New York natives, who urged the nation to open their pockets and donate to the relief effort. The show also featured a number of guest appearances by celebrities, representing their native areas, like Kristen Stewart, Adam Sandler, Jimmy Fallon and Blake Lively among others.

The event wasn’t without its controversy either, as a comment made by Mick Jagger sparked a mini storm (no pun intended) among Twitter users. The line, which went “When it rains in London, you’ve got to come in and help us.” quickly made the rounds and managed to enrage some of the more sensitive viewers, but it seemed to be more of a foot-in-mouth moment, rather than carry any malicious intent on Jagger’s part. Regardless of that little moment though, the event seems to have been a success all round, with Americans all over the country pitching in to rebuild one of the nation’s most prominent cities.

Bruce Springsteen And The Rolling Stones Among The Lineup Of Sandy Benefit Concert

Rolling Stones Jon Bon Jovi Bruce Springsteen Jon Stewart Adam Sandler Alicia Keys The Who Sir Paul McCartney Nirvana Mick Jagger

A slew of New York natives, as well as plenty of Brits performed at last night’s 12-12-12 benefit concert for victims of Hurricane Sandy, which ripped through the city in October.

Bruce Springsteen, a Jersey man himself, took the stage first with Land of Hope and Dreams followed by the evocative Wrecking Ball and the very aptly themed My City in Ruins, all of which was meant to address the rebuilding process and the NY spirit. The musician spoke fondly of his native New Jersey, mentioning its inclusiveness. “I pray that this chraracteristic remains the same” Springsteen went on to say, before going into Born to Run, for which he was joined on stage by Jon Bon Jovi, another Jersey resident.

The concert was definitely geared towards classic rock fans – a smart marketing decision, since this is also the demographic with the highest disposable income. Besides a number of to-the-bone New Yorkers, like Jon Stewart, Adam Sandler and Alicia Keys, it also featured an unexpectedly high number of appearances by British musicians – The Who and Sir Paul McCartney among others. The ex-Beatle joined the surviving members of Nirvana onstage for a cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit.

Forget Best Paid Actor; Is Being The Most Overpaid Actor Is Where It's At?

Eddie Murphy Denzel Washington Reese Witherspoon Adam Sandler Nicolas Cage

The mantle of most overpaid actor sounds good, doesn't it? It suggests that Eddie Murphy, who has been awarded the title by Forbes, is just sitting around in his huge mansion and getting paid for it. But it's not that simple...

Forbes have calculated that for every dollar Murphy was paid for his last three films, they returned an average of $2.30 at the box office, so, suddenly, the title becomes somewhat unwanted. So what happened for Murphy? His 90's classics; Trading Places and Beverly Hills Cop were huge, and his voice work in Shrek and Mulan and family-friendly roles in Norbit and Dr. Dolittle have prolonged his successful career into the noughties. But his recent films; Imagine That, A Thousand Words, Meet Dave, and Tower Heist, flopped at the box office, and have brought down his dollar average, propelling him to the top of the overpaid actors list. Still, one more smash hit and that could all change. So, you must be wondering who makes up the top 10, and not to worry, as we have it right here!

1. Eddie Murphy - Returns $2.30 for every $1 paid.

Can Mark Wahlberg Save Transformers 4 From The Razzies?

Mark Wahlberg Michael Bay Adam Sandler

Oscar-nominated actor Mark Wahlberg has - for some reason - signed on for Michael Bay's Transformers 4. The filmmaker announced on Thursday (November 8, 2012) that Wahlberg will play the lead in the fourth instalment of his blockbuster franchise.

It's an intriguing and potentially disastrous change of course for the actor, who proved his acting worthy with stellar performances in The Departed and The Fighter. He recently teamed up with Seth MacFarlane for the foul-mouthed comedy Ted and has been quietly executive producing the brilliant Boardwalk Empire for HBO. So why has he signed on for Transformers, which got old exactly three films ago? Bay seems to have an idea, writing on his blog, "Mark is awesome. An actor of his caliber is the perfect guy to re-invigorate the franchise and carry on the Transformers legacy". At least he accepts that it needs reinvigorating, though can anyone really inject life into a franchise that has been nominated for a Razzie for its last two movies? Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen actually won Worst Movie in 2009, while Dark of the Moon got off lightly in 2010 thanks to the putrid Jack and Jill, starring Adam Sandler. Bay added, "It's tough to find someone who's done these kind of movies, and to have the complication of creating the new stuff that needs to be in this movie - not just characters but a new type of action"

Transformers 4 will hit theaters on June 27, 2014. Which means Wahlberg has about 18 months to pull out.

Box Office No.1 Expected To Be ‘Taken’ By Action Sequel

Liam Neeson Famke Janssen Luc Besson Tim Burton Adam Sandler

Taken 2 is expected to shove aside all it's competitors at the Box Office when the kidnapping sequel hits cinemas over the weekend, with pre-release audience surveys suggesting that the action flick could take up to $45-50 million.

Liam Neeson returns to his role as a former CIA operative with a knack for kicking ass and taking names, only this time round it is Neeson's Bryan Mill character and his on-screen wife (played by Famke Janssen) who are taken hostage. The sequel was co-financed by Fox and writer/director/producer Luc Besson's Europa Corp for about $45 million, a sizeable increase compared to the last instalment. Still, if these estimates are anything to go by then the investment will be more than worth it.

The only major competition for Taken 2 comes in the form of two animated films, the Tim Burton's remake of Frankenweenie (a live-action short that Burton made in the early 80's) and the Adam Sandler starring Hotel Transylvania. Whilst Taken 2 will presumably take care of the adult audiences, it is up to the two spooky animations to do battle for the attention of the younger audiences, with Frankenweenie predicted to just edge past it's rival.

‘Hotel Transylvania’ Checks In With Record Breaking $43 Million

Adam Sandler Selena Gomez Joseph Gordon-Levitt Genndy Tartakovsky Liam Neeson

Hotel Transylvania, the new animated comedy featuring the voices of Adam Sandler and Selena Gomez has topped the U.S. box office with $43 million – the highest September total ever. It’s also the biggest haul of any movie since the all-conquering ‘The Dark Knight Rises’.

It’s superb news for Sony, who couldn’t have expected that the quirky comedy would pull in so much cash. The good news didn’t end there for the studio either, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s ‘Looper’ taking second spot with $21.2 million. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the performance of both movies ensured that Sony took over Warner Bros as the studio with the current biggest market share ($1.285 billion). Directed by Genndy Tartakovsky, ‘Hotel Transylvania’ is a family movie that’s success was fuelled almost solely by word-of-mouth. Rory Bruer, Sony’s president of distribution, said, “More than anything, this film has been such a collaboration of talent, and it paid off in such a huge way. Everyone in our company just loved this film. And to perform at this level in September shows that Hotel Transylvania has something for everyone.” The movie received lukewarm praise from critics, with the New York Times writing, “The movie loses its originality as it rolls toward its predictable conclusion, but it's still lovely to look at.”

It would be a huge result should ‘Hotel Transylvania’ hold onto the No.1 for a second successive week. Tim Burton releases his latest animated tale ‘Frankenweenie’, while Liam Neeson returns in ‘Taken 2.’

Coneheads Review

OK
It sounds weird to say it, but Coneheads the movie is underrated. How come it's better than your typical SNL adaptation? A new spin on the original skit with some fresh stars like Sinbad and McKean plus a generous special effects budget fill in the gaps when the movie flags. Plus a revival of "Tainted Love" doesn't hurt.

Little Nicky Review

Excellent
For better or for worse (mostly for the worse) Adam Sandler's back on the big screen. And it's pure, satanic family fun.

Little Nicky (Adam Sandler) is the devil's third---and least impressive---son. Bested in brains by his brother Adrian (Rhys Ifans) and in strength by his brother Cassius (Tiny Lester), Nicky finds little joy outside of hanging out in his hell-bound bedroom, banging his head to heavy metal favorites. That is, until his father's 10,000-year reign draws to a close and it's time to name the new ruler of Hades.

Little Nicky Review

Terrible

Having now seen "Little Nicky," in which Adam Sandler plays the retarded son of Satan, I have formulated a hypothesis I'm calling the Sandler Theory of Exponentially Obnoxious Returns. It goes something like this:

Adam Sandler goes out of his way to make each gimmick character he plays ("Billy Madison," "Happy Gilmore") more grating than the last, just to see how far he can push it before his easily amused fan base will turn on him.

His most detestable character to date had been "The Waterboy," but that Southern-fried dope was mister congeniality compared to Nicky, the little devil that couldn't. Sandler spends this entire movie with his face screwed up in a hit-by-a-shovel grimace and speaking in a silly, raspy voice like a little kid pretending to be sick so he can stay home from school. There's no joke here. It's just Sandler's version of stretching as an actor.

Adam Sandler's 8 Crazy Nights Review

Unbearable

As if searching for some nonexistent middle ground between the cartoon raunchiness of "South Park" and the innocuous banality of a cheap children's Christmas special, Adam Sandler has now weaseled his way into the animation and holiday genres with "Adam Sandler's 8 Crazy Nights."

A sub-formulaic slap in the face to seasonal cheer, it's a movie about an acrimonious, 33-year-old layabout with Sandler's voice and Sandler's doltish manner whom we're also supposed to laugh along with as he makes fun of fat little kids and kicks port-a-potties down snowy hills with people inside. But the movie also expects us to view him as a big jerk with a tormented soul who is badly in need of a "Christmas Carol"-type personality breakthrough.

Sentenced after a drunken rampage to doing community service as a youth basketball referee (depicted in exactly one scene of the movie), the cartoon Sandler is taken in by a fellow ref who feels sorry for him -- a kindly, seizure-prone, 70-year-old midget gimp with a shrill, whimpering, falsetto voice (also Sandler's). But he treats the old man (and everyone else) like garbage until he finally has an overdue cry about how his parents died when he was 12, then sees the error of his ways just before the credits roll.

Adam Sandler Books His Dying Father's Favourite Singer To Play At The Stars Wedding

Adam Sandler Luciano Pavarotti Marilyn Monroe

Movie comedian Adam Sandler booked his father's favourite singer, Leon Redbone, to sing at is wedding. Sandler's father, Stan, was dying when he assured him that he would make it to the star's wedding. In order to say 'thank you', Sandler treated his father to a live performance from his favourite musician just for him. He explained the reasoning with: "It was so that my father could have a great night. He was like, 'This is great,' and my mother whispers to him, 'You couldn't say Pavarotti?'"

Sadly, Sandler's father died not long after the wedding took place, and was followed by a series of deaths in the family. This ended with the death of the star's bulldog, Meatball, who passed earlier in February, 2004. The '50 First Dates' star noticed that his father had to die before the family pet, saying: When Meatball died we had a big shiva. 100 people came up to our house and we traded Meatball stories. I had a cantor come up and sing prayers for the dog and I know that if my father was alive, he'd be like, 'Just bury him, you moron. It's a dog.'"
