Adele is reportedly being lined up to play the villain in Matthew Vaughn's forthcoming drama The Secret Service, starring Colin Firth and, possibly, Michael Caine, according to the Sun on Sunday.

In a movie stinking of desperation - though don't believe everything the tabloids tell you - Vaughn and the producers are lining up a number of high profile celebrities in a bid to boost the movie's box-office hopes.

One of the guest stars is the Grammy award winner who could be cast in the role of the villain. Vaughn apparently believes the Skyfall singer will prove "great value on the big screen" for the movie, which is an adaptation of Mark Millar's comic book of the same name.

This movie is certainly shaping up to be pretty bizarre, with Elton John apparently agreeing to shooting a violent fight scene for his cameo and David Beckham, Mark Hamill and director Ridley Scott signing on for small parts. According to Den of Geek, Vaughn has tied up newcomer Taron Egerton to play the protégé and has Samuel L Jackson in line for the primary villain despite rumours suggesting he was planning to approach Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Cruise.

In March, Fox confirmed to Deadline that it had closed a deal for the worldwide distribution rights to The Secret Service following the completion of the script by Vaughn and Jane Goldman.

The drama will closely follow the comic, about a veteran secret agent who leads a young protégé into the shadowy business.

The Secret Service is set for release in November 2014.
