Hip-hop legends Afrika Bambaataa, Kurtis Blow and Grandmaster Flash are set to be honoured by New York City officials.

The hitmakers will receive official proclamations from Bronx Councilman Fernando Cabrera on Wednesday (12Mar14).

Grandmaster Flash's sidekick Melle Mel will also be feted and Pete 'Dj' Jones, who died in January (14), will receive a posthumous honour.

Cabrera says, "Pete gave many of the pioneers of hip-hop culture a platform to showcase their talent."

The news comes days after Grandmaster Flash became the first Dj to be inducted into Hollywood's RockWalk.
