Ireland Baldwin has provided an update on her medical condition and thanked fans for their concern as she continues to recover from appendicitis. The daughter of Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger was rushed to hospital on Thursday after complaining of severe stomach pains which were later diagnosed as appendicitis.

Cannes Panning: We'd love to say we were starting the round-up on a high with the Cannes Film Festival but unfortunately for new royal biopic Grace of Monaco, there is no good news to be found. The Nicole Kidman-starring true story dramatization has been almost universally crushed by Cannes critics who found the acting wooden, the script trite and the entire picture worse than the much-slated Diana pic. Alec Baldwin seemed to declare a hiatus from the biz recently, but he's back with a vengeance.

The episode kicks off with Jimmy MacArthur (Baldwin) shadowing Sgt. Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) for a profile. In the process, he manages to alienate a rape victim by questioning her story (it turns out that her rape was not motivated by her religion as the victim claimed) and publish a story, declaring the whole thing a “hoax”. Classy move, that one.

Ronan Farrow, the only biological child of Mia Farrow and Woody Allen, looks like he may be joining MSNBC's weekend line-up with his very own show. Farrow, a journalist and human rights activist, is said to be in advanced talks with the usually-liberal network over a show in which he will address various human rights concerns and other political concerns. He probably won't be discussing the week's hottest gossip though, like whether his father might actually be Frank Sinatra.

Initially reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the show will be Farrow's first real leap into television, although he has appeared on MSNBC and CNN's programs in the past. The 25-year-old isn't being handed the job just because of his famous name either, as Ronan has a rich history of journalistic duties and charitable work behind him. Most recently, Farrow has worked for President Obama's foreign policy department as well as at the State Department, where he founded the Office of Global Youth Issues. He also served as an advisor to Hilary Clinton during the Arab Spring uprising.

Much like his mother, Ronan has long been a staunch campaigner for the protection of children caught in conflict, and despite his young age, has developed an impressive resume of charitable pursuits and work within various non-governmental organisations, in addition to his work with Obama and Clinton. He has addressed the ongoing AIDs pandemic in Africa and the genocide in Darfur and is a published journalist, writing on the subject of human rights for The Wall Street Journal, International Herald Tribune and The Atlantic.

This is also partly to do with his fantastic acting work, but it’s also a lot to do with his funny confrontations.

Alec Baldwin’s own talk show on NBC? What could be better? The network made the announcement on Thursday afternoon, less than two weeks after the birth of the actor's daughter, Carmen Gabriela. It’s a good time to be Alec Baldwin right now. The new MSNBC project does seem like a good match, with the relationship between Baldwin and the network spanning all seven seasons of the now cancelled 30 Rock, not to mention Baldwin’s work with Saturday Night Live, which includes sixteen hosting gigs and too many sketches and cameos to count.

The newly-minted father of two is already diving back into work.

The new project is going in a slightly different direction, however. Instead of doing comedy, Baldwin will host what the network describes as a “current events and culture talk show.” The actor does have some experience in the field, having hosted a similar podcast on WNYC since 2011. On it, he has interviewed public figures from athletes to policy-makers. It looks like NBC drafting him for a similar format was a pretty safe bet on their part.

Shut it down. That was exactly what 30 Rock did on Thursday, but Liz, Jack and the entire crew definitely went down in style. We’ll try not to spoil any major bits of the most anticipated TV event of 2013 for you, but let’s just say that all of the loose ends were neatly wrapped up – or most of them anyway. We never did learn what Kenneth’s creepy secret was – and he really does have one. Our money is on alien, but now we’ll never know. Liz and Jack’s longstanding friendship had probably the best possible farewell, paying tribute to one of the most entertaining on-screen dynamics of the last decade. Not to mention one of the best written – despite playing off of each other for seven years, the 30 Rock writers have always been clear that this particular pair will never slip into the will-they-won’t-they cliché.

Ben Affleck has responded to speculation that he is considering running for Senate, providing John Kerry's seat opens up. Several names have been mentioned for the possible vacancy including Scott Brown and Mike Capuano, though Democrat Affleck has also been linked with a run. He would need 10,000 certified signatures to enter the race, and didn't exactly deny the rumors when quizzed by CBS' Bob Schieffer this week.

Kerry's position in the Senate would open up should he become Secretary of State, and Affleck said, "One never knows. I'm not one to get into conjecture," when asked whether he would be interested in the job. The Argo director added, "I do have a great fondness and admiration for the political process in this country. It's a big deal for me to come down here and be on your show that I've watched so much, but I'm not going to get into speculation about my political future." Numerous celebrities, including George Clooney and Alec Baldwin have hinted at political aspirations, though Affleck would arguably be the most popular of the three should he run as a Democrat. The Hollywood star has long campaigned for charitable causes, and founded the Eastern Congo Initiative in a bid to improve conditions in the country. "I like to be involved. Right now, I'm really happy being involved from the outside in government, advocating for the Congolese, taking this movie that I've made 'Argo' and it's really become a springboard for dialogue about our relationship with Iran, which is, as Hillary Clinton said, the most pressing foreign policy issue today. So, I've got a lot on my plate," he said before the House Armed Services Committee on Wednesday (December 19, 2012).

Affleck's Argo is up for Best Motion Picture (Drama) at the Golden Globes this year. It is considered a frontrunner for Best Picture at the Oscars. 

Yesterday it was unveiled that actor Stephen Baldwin owes $350,000 in unpaid income taxes and penalties from 2008-2010 and was arrested for the debt. Today his brother, fellow actor Alec Baldwin has spoken in his defence.

"I don't think he's going to go to jail, I know that he's in a negotiated settlement... This was all prearranged with the D.A. for him to go in and make an appearance." He said, CNN reported, adding scathing comments about the papparazzi who plague all the Baldwin brothers, "My attitude is that the business would be infinitely better if all of them were gone... If I could press a button tomorrow and flush them all down some swirling sewer vortex I would do it." 

Likewise, the man who's paid to speak in Stephen's defence, his lawyer, said "Mr. Baldwin did not commit any crimes, and he's working with the district attorney's office and the New York State Tax Department to resolve any differences."

The cast of The Rise Of The Guardians were out in force at the AFI Festival last night (November 4, 2012) as the film made its long awaited premiere debut in Hollywood. Though there are many big screenings taking places across the festival's eight days, plenty of attention has been placed on the forthcoming 3D computer-animated fantasy-adventure film which, in addition to the attending Alec Baldwin, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Nancy Bernstein, Peter Ramsey and Christina Steinberg, also stars Hugh Jackman and Jude Law.

Ashton Kutcher has been named TV’s highest paid actor. The Two and a Half Men star may have disgraced himself in the celebrity gossip world, by allegedly cheating on his partner Demi Moore, but in the world of television, he’s still hot property and commands a staggering fee for his appearances in the show.

According to Forbes’ annual survey of the highest paid television actors, Kutcher earned $24 million between May 2011 and May 2012. His predecessor on Two and a Half Men, Charlie Sheen (who left the show in a pretty dramatic fashion after suffering what appeared to be some kind of mental breakdown) did not even make the Top 10. That said, when Sheen was at the top of his game, he out-classed Kutcher significantly, with earnings of $40 million. Sheen wasn’t the only big name star to mysteriously disappear from the Top 10 though. Steve Carell, who proved to be a massive hit on the small screen with the US adaptation of Ricky Gervais’ The Office, also dropped off the list.

Snapping at Kutcher’s heels at the top of the list was Hugh Laurie, who ranked second with $18 million, largely for his role in House. Ray Romano earned an equal amount, and still appears to be raking it in with re-runs of his classic Everybody Loves Raymond comedy. Alec Baldwin’s in next with $15 million, still charming TV audiences with his role in 30 Rock.

British actors Julie Christie and Daniel Day-Lewis have won the top acting prizes at the Screen Actors' Guild (SAG) awards.

While Christie took the best actress gong for her acclaimed portrayal of a woman facing dementia in Sarah Polley's Away From Her, Day-Lewis was rewarded for his stunning role as an amoral oil prospector in Paul Thomas Anderson's There Will Be Blood.

Though the awards season has been jeopardised by the ongoing industrial action by the Writers' Guild of America (WGA), the SAG awards were held without a hitch after an interim agreement was signed between the two unions, allowing acting talent to attend the ceremony without having to cross picket lines.

Christie - who is nominated for the best actress Academy award for her part in Away From Her - paid tribute to the SAG, adding to The Associated Press: "It's lovely to receive an award from your own union, especially at a time when we're being so forcefully reminded how important unions are."

And Day-Lewis dedicated his award to the late Heath Ledger, who was tragically found dead in his New York apartment last week.

"In Brokeback Mountain he was unique, he was perfect," Day-Lewis said while accepting his trophy.

"That scene in the trailer at the end of the film is as moving as anything I think I've ever seen."

The 50-year-old added backstage that he had never met Ledger but had been profoundly affected by the actor's death.

"I thought he was beautiful. I just had a very strong feeling I would have liked him very much as a man," he said. "I admired him very much. I'm absolutely certain he would have done many wonderful things in his life."

Javier Bardem took the best supporting actor prize for his role as psychotic killer Anton Chigurh in the Coen Brothers' No Country For Old Men, which also won the award for outstanding cast in a motion picture.

With The Sopranos finally coming to an end, leads James Gandolfini and Edie Falco claimed the best actor and best actress prizes for TV dramas, while Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey, the stars of NBC's 30 Rock, took the comedy equivalents.

And another NBC series, The Office - an adaptation of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's Golden Globe-winning sitcom - won the award for best cast in a comedy programme.
