Alec Baldwin

With a willingness to play just about any kind of character from comedy to horror, Alec Baldwin's career seems to have reached its climax with his impersonation of Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live. And this fearlessness is what led to his casting as the title character in the animated comedy The Boss Baby.

Director Tom McGrath knew Baldwin was perfect for the role, and pitched it to him by sending a clip of an adorable baby with Baldwin's voice spewing his profane "coffee is for closers" speech from Glengarry Glen Ross.

Alec Baldwin Might Not Be Doing His Donald Trump Impressions On 'SNL' For Much Longer

Alec Baldwin Donald Trump Saturday Night Live

Alec Baldwin’s impersonations of Donald Trump on ‘SNL’ have hit the nail so precisely on the head that the new president himself has even criticised them on numerous occasions. However, the actor has hinted that he won’t be doing them for that much longer.

Baldwin’s impressions, along with those of Melissa McCarthy ripping it out of press secretary Sean Spicer, have coincided with a ratings boost for ‘Saturday Night Live’.

However, the 58 year old Hollywood star intimated to Extra in an interview on Monday (March 6th) that he’s strongly considering packing in his lampoons of the rage-tweeter-in-chief soon.

When ex-American Football star Mike Webster turns up on his morticians table, Omalu treats his body just like he would any other. Looking at every possible outcome, Bennet beings to study the brain of the ex-footballer and what he discovers is a new disease that hasn't been seen before.

Before this point, people knew about a condition called Punch Drunk, a disorder often associated with contact sport such as boxing, but up until Dr. Bennet Omalu's discovery the disorder hadn't been seen as a physical effect.

Cannes Panning: We'd love to say we were starting the round-up on a high with the Cannes Film Festival but unfortunately for new royal biopic Grace of Monaco, there is no good news to be found. The Nicole Kidman-starring true story dramatization has been almost universally crushed by Cannes critics who found the acting wooden, the script trite and the entire picture worse than the much-slated Diana pic. You can watch the trailer here though - it's worth it for the beautiful costumes and idyllic tax-haven setting.

Baldwin Busted: Alec Baldwin should probably sneak off to some meditation resort in the mountains for the next few months until this latest debacle blows over. The hot-headed actor and TV host, who is known for his many altercations with paps, had a run-in with police this week when he was caught riding his bicycle the wrong way down a busy New York street and flew into a rage when the cops asked to see his ID. It didn't end well for the 30 Rock star: read about all the drama here.

Then Alec Baldwin said he was retiring from the biz in that affected, woe-is-me letter recently, he obviously didn’t mean it literally. Classy move, that one.

Mia Farrow & Woody Allen's Son, Ronan Farrow, In Talks To Host MSNBC Show

Mia Farrow Woody Allen Alec Baldwin

Ronan Farrow, the only biological child of Mia Farrow and Woody Allen, looks like he may be joining MSNBC's weekend line-up with his very own show. Farrow, a journalist and human rights activist, is said to be in advanced talks with the usually-liberal network over a show in which he will address various human rights concerns and other political concerns. He probably won't be discussing the week's hottest gossip though, like whether his father might actually be Frank Sinatra.

Initially reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the show will be Farrow's first real leap into television, although he has appeared on MSNBC and CNN's programs in the past. The 25-year-old isn't being handed the job just because of his famous name either, as Ronan has a rich history of journalistic duties and charitable work behind him. Most recently, Farrow has worked for President Obama's foreign policy department as well as at the State Department, where he founded the Office of Global Youth Issues. He also served as an advisor to Hilary Clinton during the Arab Spring uprising.

Much like his mother, Ronan has long been a staunch campaigner for the protection of children caught in conflict, and despite his young age, has developed an impressive resume of charitable pursuits and work within various non-governmental organisations, in addition to his work with Obama and Clinton. He has addressed the ongoing AIDs pandemic in Africa and the genocide in Darfur and is a published journalist, writing on the subject of human rights for The Wall Street Journal, International Herald Tribune and The Atlantic.

Blue Jasmine Review

Extraordinary

With a riveting performance, Cate Blanchett creates one of Woody Allen's most memorable movie characters in years. And it's also the writer-director's strongest film in recent memory, as it balances comedy and drama in an engaging story that has a kick of resonance as it explores fall-out from the current economical recession.

Blanchett is Jasmine, a New York socialite who has fallen from grace after her husband Hal (Baldwin) lost control of his dodgy financial empire. So Jasmine is forced to move across the country to live with her sister Ginger (Hawkins) in San Francisco. Although she misses her high-society lifestyle, Jasmine gets on with things, finding a job with a local dentist (Stuhlbarg) and a flicker of romance with a rising-star politician (Sarsgaard). But living in Ginger's small apartment with her two kids and her blue-collar boyfriend Chili (Cannavale) takes its toll. And while smoothing the edges with alcohol and Xanax, Jasmine begins to lie to herself and others about her past.

All of the characters here are jaggedly complex, interacting with hilariously observant dialog as their relationships get increasingly messy. But while Jasmine is snobby and prickly, Blanchett also reveals her fragility as she tries to get back on her feet. And Hawkins is just as revelatory as the tenacious and much more generous Ginger. The men around them are just as complicated: Cannavale is hot-tempered but charming, Sarsgaard is kind but a bit slippery, Baldwin is charismatic and over-confident. No one fits into a simple box, which keeps us on our toes and lets the characters worm their way deep under the skin.

MSNBC Bestows Brand New Talk Show To Alec Baldwin - After 7 Years Of 30 Rock, He's Still Up For It

Alec Baldwin’s own talk show on NBC? What could be better? The network made the announcement on Thursday afternoon, less than two weeks after the birth of the actor's daughter, Carmen Gabriela. It’s a good time to be Alec Baldwin right now. The new MSNBC project does seem like a good match, with the relationship between Baldwin and the network spanning all seven seasons of the now cancelled 30 Rock, not to mention Baldwin’s work with Saturday Night Live, which includes sixteen hosting gigs and too many sketches and cameos to count.

The newly-minted father of two is already diving back into work.

The new project is going in a slightly different direction, however. Instead of doing comedy, Baldwin will host what the network describes as a “current events and culture talk show.” The actor does have some experience in the field, having hosted a similar podcast on WNYC since 2011. On it, he has interviewed public figures from athletes to policy-makers. It looks like NBC drafting him for a similar format was a pretty safe bet on their part.

A lesson to all you rebels out there: you can mess about and disobey orders most of the time, but you can’t do it on a place or you’ll be ejected. That’s what happened to Soulja Boy, whose antics meant he couldn't reach his destination.

We don’t mean ejected like Mission:Impossible ejected, we mean ejected like movie theatre ejected, even though the former would have been a much cooler story. Stories involved parachutes are always cooler.

But here’s what happened: there’s a bit before you take off – you’ll all probably know it well – where the flight attendants ensure that you’re sitting down and fastened up tight. The plane is about to take off into the air, so they want to make sure people are safe. Soulja Boy didn’t care, he refused to partner bum with seat, and you know what happened next.

Liz and Jack’s longstanding friendship had probably the best possible farewell, paying tribute to one of the most entertaining on-screen dynamics of the last decade. President Ben Affleck? Argo Star Hints At Political Ambitions

Ben Affleck George Clooney Alec Baldwin John Kerry

Ben Affleck has responded to speculation that he is considering running for Senate, providing John Kerry's seat opens up. Several names have been mentioned for the possible vacancy including Scott Brown and Mike Capuano, though Democrat Affleck has also been linked with a run. He would need 10,000 certified signatures to enter the race, and didn't exactly deny the rumors when quizzed by CBS' Bob Schieffer this week.

Kerry's position in the Senate would open up should he become Secretary of State, and Affleck said, "One never knows. I'm not one to get into conjecture," when asked whether he would be interested in the job. The Argo director added, "I do have a great fondness and admiration for the political process in this country. It's a big deal for me to come down here and be on your show that I've watched so much, but I'm not going to get into speculation about my political future." Numerous celebrities, including George Clooney and Alec Baldwin have hinted at political aspirations, though Affleck would arguably be the most popular of the three should he run as a Democrat. The Hollywood star has long campaigned for charitable causes, and founded the Eastern Congo Initiative in a bid to improve conditions in the country. "I like to be involved. Right now, I'm really happy being involved from the outside in government, advocating for the Congolese, taking this movie that I've made 'Argo' and it's really become a springboard for dialogue about our relationship with Iran, which is, as Hillary Clinton said, the most pressing foreign policy issue today. So, I've got a lot on my plate," he said before the House Armed Services Committee on Wednesday (December 19, 2012).

Affleck's Argo is up for Best Motion Picture (Drama) at the Golden Globes this year. It is considered a frontrunner for Best Picture at the Oscars.

Alec Baldwin Sheds Light On Stephen Baldwin's Arrest

Alec Baldwin Stephen Baldwin

Yesterday it was unveiled that actor Stephen Baldwin owes $350,000 in unpaid income taxes and penalties from 2008-2010 and was arrested for the debt. Today his brother, fellow actor Alec Baldwin has spoken in his defence.

"I don't think he's going to go to jail, I know that he's in a negotiated settlement... This was all prearranged with the D.A. for him to go in and make an appearance." He said, CNN reported, adding scathing comments about the papparazzi who plague all the Baldwin brothers, "My attitude is that the business would be infinitely better if all of them were gone... If I could press a button tomorrow and flush them all down some swirling sewer vortex I would do it."

Likewise, the man who's paid to speak in Stephen's defence, his lawyer, said "Mr. Baldwin did not commit any crimes, and he's working with the district attorney's office and the New York State Tax Department to resolve any differences."

Rise Of The Guardians Review

Excellent

Vividly colourful details in the animation and script bring mythical characters to life in ways that are thoroughly engaging as this riotous action-comedy soars through its epic story. It's a bit frantic, barely pausing to let us admire the artistry, but it's a lively thrill-ride of a movie that will keep both adults and kids on the edge of their seats.

Jack Frost (Pine) is a lonely boy no one else can see, so he has no idea why he exists at all. He fills time creating snowy-icy mischief to make children laugh, and feels out of his depth when he is summoned by the Guardians of childhood: burly Russian Father Christmas (Baldwin), tough-talking Aussie Easter Bunny (Jackman), fluttering Tooth Fairy (Fisher) and wordless Sandman. They need him to help them defeat Pitch (Law), a boogeyman who is replacing children's imaginations with nasty nightmares in an effort to get them to believe only in him. So while Jack works out a plan to get rid of Pitch, he also needs to figure out if he belongs with the Guardians.

Screenwriter Lindsay-Abaire and the animation team have a lot of fun with the characters, which are loosely based on the William Joyce novels. Each person is fully formed, with terrific vocal work from gifted actors who pack their characters with personality, especially Baldwin and Jackman. So their interaction zings with attitude even as the imagery bursts with hilarious details. Since the story is centred on Jack, he's the one who carries us through, and he's an engaging reluctant hero in the vein of Harry Potter or Frodo Baggins. Watching him discover his own inner skills is often exhilarating.

$24 Million Salary: Ashton Kutcher Tops Forbes' Actors Rich List

Ashton Kutcher Demi Moore Charlie Sheen Steve Carell Ricky Gervais Hugh Laurie Ray Romano Alec Baldwin

Ashton Kutcher has been named TV’s highest paid actor. The Two and a Half Men star may have disgraced himself in the celebrity gossip world, by allegedly cheating on his partner Demi Moore, but in the world of television, he’s still hot property and commands a staggering fee for his appearances in the show.

According to Forbes’ annual survey of the highest paid television actors, Kutcher earned $24 million between May 2011 and May 2012. His predecessor on Two and a Half Men, Charlie Sheen (who left the show in a pretty dramatic fashion after suffering what appeared to be some kind of mental breakdown) did not even make the Top 10. That said, when Sheen was at the top of his game, he out-classed Kutcher significantly, with earnings of $40 million. Sheen wasn’t the only big name star to mysteriously disappear from the Top 10 though. Steve Carell, who proved to be a massive hit on the small screen with the US adaptation of Ricky Gervais’ The Office, also dropped off the list.

Snapping at Kutcher’s heels at the top of the list was Hugh Laurie, who ranked second with $18 million, largely for his role in House. Ray Romano earned an equal amount, and still appears to be raking it in with re-runs of his classic Everybody Loves Raymond comedy. Alec Baldwin’s in next with $15 million, still charming TV audiences with his role in 30 Rock.

To Rome With Love Review

Very Good
After Midnight in Paris, Woody Allen remains in a cheery European mode for another breezy comedy tinged with magical realism. This one's actually four separate stories that are very loosely interwoven as people struggle with the unpredictability of romance and fame. And like Midnight in Paris, it shows off Rome in the most beautiful light imaginable.

Baldwin plays an architect who returns to his student stomping grounds and meets Jack (Eisenberg), who seems to be living his old life, even as he falls for a friend (Page) of his girlfriend (Gerwig). Meanwhile, there's Leopoldo (Benigni), a dull businessman who suddenly becomes a celebrity for no reason he can see, is pursued everywhere by the paparazzi and starts to enjoy the high life. Across town, Jerry and Phyllis (Allen and Davis) arrive to meet the fiance (Parenti) of their daughter (Pill). Then Jerry pushes a future in-law (Armiliato) into becoming the latest opera sensation. Finally, a young couple arrives from the country to start a new life in the city, but the husband (Tiberi) ends up having a farcical day out with a sexy prostitute (Cruz) while the wife (Mastronardi) meets her favourite actor (Albanese).

Video - Accused Stalker Genevieve Sabourin At The Hearing For Alec Baldwin Case

The paparazzi catch up with Genevieve Sabourin - the woman accused of stalking Alec Baldwin - and her lawyer as they make their way to court. The pair seem content enough to allow photographs to be taken and, while revealing little about the case, inform the press that they are only expecting an adjournment.

Sabourin insists she would rather comment after the hearing but revises her answer and says, 'We'll see' when asked if she would definitely comment. As Sabourin and her lawyer leave the Manhattan court hearing, they decline to comment on the day's outcome.

The lawyer maintains that he will see his client be found not guilty as 'no laws were broken'. They also reveal the date of the next court appearance.

Video - Alec Baldwin Looks Nervous Prior To Wedding

Cameras were gathered outside St. Patrick's Old Cathedral in Little Italy, Manhattan all of Saturday to try and get a glimpse of the proceedings before, after and during Alec Baldwin's wedding to Hilaria Thomas.

At first it seemed as though they would all be unlucky as they were first greeted by a false alarm and then Hilaria emerged completely concealed by her entourage. Brother Stephen Baldwin and his mother Carol later let their faces be seen, until the waiting finally paid off when Alec, looking a little nervy it must be said, made a journey to his car and back again with a rapturous applause behind him

Video - Alec Baldwin Quickly Gets Into His Car After An Interesting Interview With Letterman

'30 Rock' actor Alec Baldwin briefly waves at fans as he leaves the Ed Sullivan Theatre in New York to get into his car after appearing on 'The Late Show With David Letterman'.

Baldwin has been in the news frequently recently regarding an altercation he had with a member of the paparazzi outside a marriage license bureau. He denies claims that he punched the photographer. 'If I had punched him, I would be in jail right now, rightfully so', he told Letterman on the show. 'I kind of pushed him out of the way because he almost hit me in the face with the camera.' The interview also saw him drop his pants to explain how his weight loss has made putting his hands in his pockets a dangerous pursuit. A surprised Letterman responded by imitating him to raucous laughter from the audience

Rock Of Ages Review

Very Good
This raucous trawl through 80s power ballads, rock anthems and gigantic hair is a lot of fun, partly because it throws so many big stars into against-type roles in which they get to sing and dance. But the plot couldn't be any thinner or it wouldn't exist at all.

Small-town girl Sherrie (Hough) takes the bus to 1987 Hollywood to become a rock star. There she meets Drew (Boneta), who has the same dream and works in the famed Bourbon Room on the Sunset Strip. He convinces the owner (Baldwin) to hire her as a barmaid just as diva-rocker Stacee Jaxx (Cruise) comes to play a major gig. Buzzing around him are a Rolling Stone journalist (Akerman) wanting an interview and a right-winger (Zeta-Jones) trying to protect the children from the evils of rock-n-roll.

Brits Julie Christie And Daniel Day-lewis Take Sag Awards

Julie Christie Alec Baldwin Brokeback Mountain Coen Brothers Edie Falco Heath Ledger James Gandolfini NBC Paul Thomas Anderson Ricky Gervais Sarah Polley The Office The Sopranos

British actors Julie Christie and Daniel Day-Lewis have won the top acting prizes at the Screen Actors' Guild (SAG) awards.

While Christie took the best actress gong for her acclaimed portrayal of a woman facing dementia in Sarah Polley's Away From Her, Day-Lewis was rewarded for his stunning role as an amoral oil prospector in Paul Thomas Anderson's There Will Be Blood.

Though the awards season has been jeopardised by the ongoing industrial action by the Writers' Guild of America (WGA), the SAG awards were held without a hitch after an interim agreement was signed between the two unions, allowing acting talent to attend the ceremony without having to cross picket lines.

Christie - who is nominated for the best actress Academy award for her part in Away From Her - paid tribute to the SAG, adding to The Associated Press: "It's lovely to receive an award from your own union, especially at a time when we're being so forcefully reminded how important unions are."

And Day-Lewis dedicated his award to the late Heath Ledger, who was tragically found dead in his New York apartment last week.

"In Brokeback Mountain he was unique, he was perfect," Day-Lewis said while accepting his trophy.

"That scene in the trailer at the end of the film is as moving as anything I think I've ever seen."

The 50-year-old added backstage that he had never met Ledger but had been profoundly affected by the actor's death.

"I thought he was beautiful. I just had a very strong feeling I would have liked him very much as a man," he said. "I admired him very much. I'm absolutely certain he would have done many wonderful things in his life."

Javier Bardem took the best supporting actor prize for his role as psychotic killer Anton Chigurh in the Coen Brothers' No Country For Old Men, which also won the award for outstanding cast in a motion picture.

With The Sopranos finally coming to an end, leads James Gandolfini and Edie Falco claimed the best actor and best actress prizes for TV dramas, while Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey, the stars of NBC's 30 Rock, took the comedy equivalents.

And another NBC series, The Office - an adaptation of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's Golden Globe-winning sitcom - won the award for best cast in a comedy programme.

The Departed Review

Excellent
Just as Spike Lee took a basic caper and added his own pet issues to elevate Inside Man to the upper echelons of its genre, Martin Scorsese has taken The Departed, based on an intriguingly simple premise, to its own heights by infusing issues that have concerned him ever since Mean Streets. Along the way, he makes room for some memorable performances, not the least of which comes from the most likely of sources.

The Departed is based on the Hong Kong blockbuster Infernal Affairs, in which a cop goes undercover in the mob while the mob places one of their own as a mole in the police force. In Scorsese's version, the scene shifts to Boston, where mob boss Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson) puts loyal-from-boyhood employee Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon) through police training. As Sullivan rises through the ranks, Special Investigations Unit chiefs Queenan (Martin Sheen) and Dignam (Mark Wahlberg) recruit rookie Billy Costigan (Leonardo DiCaprio) to get "kicked off" the force and do time to gain Costello's confidence.

Cats & Dogs Review

OK
I have officially reached my quota for the year of talking animal movies. Dr. Dolittle 2 pushed me to the edge, and the animatronic animal flick Cats & Dogs has pushed right over it, into a giddy oblivion where I now firmly believe purple dinosaurs can communicate with humans through song and dance.

Cats & Dogs is ridiculous and harmless, a Mission: Impossible for the animal world. For years, a secret high-tech espionage war has been waged between the feline and canine races, right under the noses of ignorant humans. The spark of this high-tech war came about as the result of the dog race overthrowing the then-dominating cat race during ancient Egyptian times (they even ruled the human race). Man's best friend re-established the humans as the dominant race and has protected that balance for years. And a breakthrough for dogs is approaching, as one human, Professor Brody (Jeff Goldblum), is on the verge of discovering an allergy vaccine which will enable all humans and dogs to co-exist in peace. The only problem is that the diabolic Mr. Tinkle (voiced by Sean Hayes), a furry white Persian with the attitude of Richard Grant's character from Hudson Hawk, and his small army of pesky felines have "cat-knapped" the family dog Buddy, who has been guarding the Professor and his family from the tuna-breathed fiends. The bodyguard job then falls on the shoulders of a Beagle pup named Lou (voiced by Toby Maguire) -- who is mistaken as a secret agent dog by an Anatolian Shepard named Butch (voiced by Alec Baldwin).

Mini's First Time Review

Terrible
In life, there are perpetual ups and downs. Example: After playing Lex Luthor with enough menacing glee to sustain a franchise let alone one film, Kevin Spacey goes and puts his hard earned time and money into producing Mini's First Time. At its Tribeca Film Fest premiere, it was obvious this film was going to get picked up (look at that cast!), but there were few other films less worthy of distribution.

Book-ended by a infuriatingly obvious graduation speech, the film kicks off with Mini (Nikki Reed) explaining how she needs to be a hooker, because modern, rich life is too damn easy. Her trick this evening just happens to be Martin (Alec Baldwin), her stepfather, who somehow doesn't notice the voice of his stepdaughter and agrees to turn off the lights for the entirety of the night. When confronted, Martin is apprehensive, but Mini sees opportunity in this equation. She quickly makes Martin a sex slave and devises a plan to get Diane (Carrie-Anne Moss), her mom sent to the looney bin, allowing for her and Martin to not have to hide their affair. Well, things go bad: Diane dies from an overdose, their neighbor (Jeff Goldblum) gets suspicious, and Detective Garson (Luke Wilson, for some reason) starts snooping around. Soon, Martin and Mini start questioning each other's motives.

Pearl Harbor Review

OK
There's a point in Pearl Harbor when Cuba Gooding Jr. leaps into a battleship's gun turret and starts shooting down Japanese planes while hell rages around him. It's a dramatic moment... until you realize that it's that "Show me the money!" guy from Jerry Maguire, shooting CGI bullets at a CGI plane... and you are reminded once again just how phony everything you've seen in Pearl Harbor has been.

Ironically, this incident, where ship's cook Dorie Miller took charge and shot back during America's worst hour on December 7, 1941, is just about the only true event to be found in the entire, oppressive three-hour film. (And our producers are quick to remind us of just how ripped-from-history this little vignette is. Never mind that Gooding has a pitiful excuse for a role with maybe five minutes of screen time.)

Notting Hill Review

Excellent
Julia Roberts is Julia Roberts - almost - in Notting Hill, a well-crafted romantic comedy from the geniuses behind Four Weddings and a Funeral.

The deceptively simple plot begins when uber-famous film star Anna Scott (Roberts) winds up in William's (Grant) book shop on Notting Hill, something of a British cross between a pre-Disney Times Square and a Moroccan street market. After William accidentally dumps orange juice down Anna's front, an on-again, off-again, on-again, off-again, on-again love affair blossoms.

Elizabethtown Review

OK
Soundtracks to Cameron Crowe's movies are often as memorable as the films themselves. Crowe's most famous marriage of cinema and song has to be John Cusack's radio hoist to the beat of Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes." Three years later, the 1992 relationship comedy Singles tapped into Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains before Seattle's music scene flamed out. And Almost Famous reminded us of the unifying power of Elton John's "Tiny Dancer."

Crowe's uncanny knack for turning up the volume has allowed countless scenes to soar to their potential. One problem nagging Elizabethtown, Crowe's most awkward project to date, is that the director is obligated to crank the knob again and again to overcome bland performances and missed emotional connections. He has assembled another astonishing collection of inspirational rock tracks, but for the first time the soundtrack outshines the accompanying movie by a long shot.

Thomas And The Magic Railroad Review

OK
Bullies suck. "Being useful" is good. Magic is cool. You just can't argue with these irrefutable facts in the world of Thomas and the Magic Railroad, a preschool adventure based on the successful television series about the little tank engine that could. The lessons may be admirable, but creator/director/writer Britt Allcroft has created a scattered children's tale that looks good, but feels messy.

She has done some things right: she's cast big stars, like Alec Baldwin as the Lilliputian Mr. Conductor, and Peter Fonda as the sad grandpa, Burnett Stone; her production designers have continued the show's happy train colors, with bright blues and reds, and have added bonus design touches to the live sets and wardrobe; her script applauds positive thinking, creativity, and foiling the bad guy. It's just that all of this is mired in a clunky set of hole-filled plots, confusing enough to make me want to interrogate the little guy sitting in front of me.

THE SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS MOVIE Review

Good

Since the beginning of time mankind has posed the most difficult questions: "Is the Earth round or flat?" "Is there life after death?" "Why is junk food so tasty?"

But no question elicits quite the same response as: "Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?"

The answer, of course, is the star of Nickelodeon's enormously popular cartoon series "SpongeBob SquarePants," which enjoys nearly as many adult fans as it does children. After five years on television, the little sponge now hits the big screen with the aptly titled "The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie."

Final Fantasy Review

OK

Fifty percent groundbreaking, breathtaking computer-generated visuals, 30 percent New Age spiritual hokum, 15 percent generic post-apocalyptic science fiction and five percent lame action flick clichés, "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within" is such a eccentric amalgam of methods and moods that it's unlikely to leave anyone terribly impressed in the end. But absolutely everyone will be agog at the first 10 minutes.

Far and away the most mind-blowingly photo-realistic computer-animated movie to date, "Final Fantasy" wastes no time showing off what its huge staff of renderers can do, opening the picture with a fantastical dream sequence that includes a truly transporting alien landscape unequaled in the history of sci-fi cinema.

Its billowy red sky, gigantic looming moon, crystalline rock formations and sweeping vistas feel as real as another world could on screen. This was most definitely not shot through fancy filters in a quarry somewhere.

Pearl Harbor Review

Weak

The handful of battle scenes that make up a good hour of "Pearl Harbor" are adrenaline-pumping and hyper-realistic on a massive scale.

You feel the impact of every single 7.7mm round from dive-bombing Japanese Zeros as they rip through pavement, planes and people in the infamous attack around which the film in centered. Director Michael Bay's camera goes inside cockpits, rides along on bombs from release to explosion, captures the terror of a torpedo in the water from the deck of a ship and includes some of the best special effects ever put on film.

The money shot is a hull-buckling blast that rips through the USS Arizona. It makes being on a luxury liner hit by an iceberg look like a 25-cent carnival ride.

Along Came Polly Review

Weak

Jennifer Aniston must have been struck with serious deja vu while filming one pivotal scene from "Along Came Polly," in which she discovers that a neurotic risk assessor (Ben Stiller) -- whom she's been seeing since his bride dumped him on their honeymoon -- has used his laptop computer to make a list of pros and cons about their relationship, hoping to analyze his way to Ms. Right.

Almost the exact same circumstances once led to the breakup on "Friends" between her Rachel and David Schwimmer's neurotic, risk-averse Ross.

It's just such a tendency toward the derivative that leaves "Along Came Polly" lacking any fresh romantic-comedy punch. A blind pet ferret that wreaks havoc on Stiller's attempted seductions smacks of the dog that did the same in "There's Something About Mary." A scene in which Stiller kisses up to his boss (Alec Baldwin) in the men's room recalls an awkward moment in "Brazil," and the urinal humor that drives the scene is straight out of "Austin Powers" (which was hardly the originator of such gags in the first place).
