Alec Baldwin should be an excellent addition to the MSNBC team.
Alec Baldwin may well be heading to MSNBC to host his own weekly program, in light of the network’s declining ratings.
Yep, it looks as though the executives at the beleaguered station have started panicking and plumped for Baldwin, who comes armed with controversial baggage though will no doubt prove hugely entertaining.
In December 2011, he was kicked off an American Airlines flight for playing Words With Friends on his phone while waiting for take-off. He allegedly became belligerent though later apologized to the passengers who were delayed. American Airlines received no such apology.
Following the funeral of Baldwin’s pal James Gandolfini, a UK tabloid journalist called out the actor’s wife Hilaria for tweeting throughout the service. Baldwin tweeted, “I'm gonna find you, George Stark, you toxic little queen, and I'm gonna f*ck...you...up.” adding, “[I']d put my foot up your f*cking ass, George Stark, but I'm sure you'd dig it too much.”
According the Hollywood Reporter – who confirmed Mediaite’s original story – the 55-year-old would host a Friday primetime show, though a format or name remain unclear.
Baldwin’s no stranger to the NBC family – he starred in seven seasons of 30 Rock and his name was floated as a possible addition to the network’s late night line-up when Jimmy Fallon was confirmed to move to The Tonight Show.
Baldwin’s people are declining to comment on the matter, though it’s clear that MSNBC – a left learning network – would be a great match for the actor. An outspoken Democrat, the actor was once heavily rumored to be a possible candidate for the 2013 New York City mayoral race, though hasn’t ruled out running in the future.
MSNBC hit a ratings low in the second quarter of 2013, with the network shifting around the roster in search for popular fits. Chris Hayes was recently added to the 8pm time-slot.
