Speaking to Yahoo Movies, DiCaprio said, "I can name 30 or 40 sequences that were some of the most difficult things I’ve ever had to do. Oscars Could Revert To 5 Movies In 'Best Picture' Category

Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu

The Academy Awards are considering a major change that would see the category of Best Picture cut from ten nominees to just five. The Oscars expanded its category to ten in 2009 (and then anywhere between 5-10 in the following years) though it considering a return to the five nominees last seen in 2008 when Slumdog Millionaire beat The Reader, Milk, Frost/Nixon and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

BirdmanAlejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's Birdman won the Best Picture this year, against nine rivals

The initial change essentially came when there was uproar over the omission of The Dark Knight from the line-up, however, after experimenting over the past six years the Academy now believes its field is being watered down (The Blind Side, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, 127 Hours and Philomena were all Best Picture nominees). The flip side is that the expanded category gives lesser known films a chance to shine - we're thinking Whiplash and Beasts of the Southern Wild.

Sean Penn Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu

Sean Penn's green card joke was one of the more controversial jokes at the Oscars 2015 though it could be argued it kicked some life into a ceremony that was otherwise something of a snoozefest under the stewardship of Neil Patrick Harris.

When presenting the Best Picture Oscars to Alejandro Gonzelez Inarritu, Penn said: "Who gave this son of a bitch his green card?"

Leonardo Dicaprio Stars In Alejandro González Inarritu's Follow Up To 'Birdman' [Photos]

'Birdman' still has yet to open in some countries and already has multiple Academy Award nominations. One of these nomination is a 'Best Director' nod for Alejandro González Iñárritu, which will certainly help with his upcoming film's promotion. Said film is already in production, as it happens, and its premise alone is about as far away from 'Birdman' as you can get.

'The Revenant' is based on the 2003 novel of the same name by Michael Punke, and follows the story of American fur trapper Hugh Glass, who was injured by a grizzly bear on a hunt, and left for dead by his fellow trappers. After coming to and discovering that he had suffered horrific wounds before being left 200 miles from civilisation, Glass was forced to crawl that distance through an area of disputed land that various Native American tribes were fighting over. All the time, Glass was unarmed, alone, and close to death from his wounds. And if you haven't guessed by now, yes, it is based on a true story.

Unsurprisingly, the Ensemble Cast Award went to the actors from 'The Imitation Game'; a movie depicting the era-defining career of codebreaker Alan Turing during World War II and his subsequent arrest for being homosexual. It stars Benedict Cumberbatch in the lead role, with the likes of Allen Leech, Matthew Beard and Alex Lawther - the latter of whom plays Turing's younger self. Directed by the BAFTA nominated Morten Tyldum, the movie has already been nominated for five Golden Globes, and it definitely looks to be in line for an Academy Award.

Is 'Birdman''s Protagonist Really Based On Michael Keaton?

Michael Keaton Edward Norton Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu

'Birdman' is currently receiving glowing reviews from critics and general audiences alike. The movie, which follows the story of an old super-hero movie actor trying to make a comeback by directing and starring in his Broadway debut, is receiving most of its praise directed towards the stars and director alike. But perhaps it is the infinity that the cast and director share which makes the film such a tight-knit product, as the star Michael Keaton has suggested the true message behind the movie.

Michael Keaton was a guest on the 'Late Show with David Letterman'

"Me and Ed [Norton] both think that everyone in the script is Alejandro, which is kind of true" explains Keaton, suggesting that writer/director Alejandro González Iñárritu looked inward when coming up with the characters for the film. This comes from a conversation Keaton and Norton had about the nature of dreams, and how the subconscious mind effects the people and objects of a dream in a very personal way. Keaton explains: "there is a theory that when you dream - Ed was talking about it the other day - that you are everyone in the dream, actually there's also a theory that you are everyTHING in a dream".
