Like many of her fellow Hollywood dwellers, Alicia Silverstone is an advocate for the clean, organic, vegan lifestyle, however her latest endeavor might be taking it a bit too far. The Miss Match actress has founded a breast milk share program, the New York Daily News reports. How this works is, if a mom should find herself in need of breast milk and not wanting to use the services of a breast milk bank – yes, those do exist – she can just reach out to the program and someone, more fortunate in the lactation department, can help out. “If you have milk to share — post it! If you are in need of milk — post it!” Silverstone wrote. “Think of all the babies we can help raise together!”

The health-conscious mom is reaching out.

The “Clueless” star, a longtime vegan, explained she was inspired by a friend who couldn’t produce enough milk because of a prior breast reduction surgery. It sounds like a well-meaning plan, however there are a number of drawbacks to it. Most notably, breast milk is the easiest way to transfer a disease from mother to baby. While breast milk banks test their samples for a number of viruses, including HIV, an unofficial program like this doesn’t have the safety checks in place, so women turning to in for help should be prepared to run some checks themselves. Regardless of the risks, however, Silverstone’s program already has several eager patrons.

It might not be the safest option though.

“I have a freezer overflowing with milk and would love to help you out!” wrote one Manhattan mom. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of the actress’s controversial parentling methods, however. A few years ago, she raised some eyebrows with the admission that she chewed her then 10-month-old son’s food before feeding him. Well, everyone has a right to their own parenting strategy...
