Albums of Note... Rihanna’s seventh studio album, Unapologetic has been met with a mixed response and our reviewer reckons the Barbadian pop star phoned this one in. As her career becomes more of a marketing cash cow than an artistic endeavour, so her albums impress less and less.

Of course, there is also the ‘elephant’ that seems to appear in every room Rihanna walks into… an elephant known as ‘Chris Brown.’ He makes an appearance on the album, duetting with RhiRhi on a track called ‘Nobody’s Business.’ “Fun: it's something that's lacking a lot in this album, Unapologetic rattling on machine-like but with very little given away to the spirit of enjoyment… She doesn't have to feel apologetic for anything, but what's more concerning is that Rihanna doesn't seem to feel anything anymore, something all too apparent on this turgid LP.”

All The Young - Interview

Interveiw with All The Young

It's been a busy 12 months for Stoke-based four piece All The Young, what with the release earlier in the year of their début album Welcome Home and a constant schedule of touring. Made up of brothers Ryan (Vocals, rhythm guitar and omnipresent sunglasses) and Jack (Bass) Dooley, Dave Cartwright (Lead guitar) and power house drummer Will Heaney,  after supporting amongst others The Kaiser Chiefs, The Courteeners and Morrissey, they're now proudly bringing their own brand of anthemic indie rock to a town near you via their own headline shows. Contactmusic caught up with them before their gig at Leeds' famous Brudenell Social Club.

CM: So - 2012 - how's it been?
RD: Great! We couldn't really have asked for much more from the year. We've had sell-out gigs, we've been to Australia, our album's done really well, we also did V Festival, Rockness and Wakestock.

CM: Welcome Home got a bit of a mixed reaction from the critics - do you pay any attention to reviews?
JD: We always find the best thing to do is not get carried away with good or bad reviews.
RD: I do read them.
JD: But if people pay you loads of compliments you can't say "I'm it" and the same applies if people say bad things. You can't get carried away.
RD: We've had people say the album sounds very slick compared to the live show, which is very constructive feedback. We've also had people saying it's over produced, and that's just wrong. Over produced is strings, choirs, all that. Welcome Home is just full on guitars and it sounds good. I do think it's almost like we weren't allowed to sound good, because we're from Stoke, and we're a rock 'n' roll band. A lot of the big name (Websites) liked it, some of the smaller niche ones didn't. For me that says people can't make their mind up about how they feel about the band.

All the Young, Welcome Home Album Review

Indie rockers All the Young seem to have burst onto the music scene with pretty much no warning whatsoever. Their debut offering, Welcome Home, a title that rather presumptuously seems to assume that listeners will immediately be captured by their sound and feel like they've been 'missing out all this time', is a bold and intrepid release, with a sound and a feel that's sure to be taken notice of.

All The Young, Live At The Kings Hall, Stoke On Trent Album Review

Formerly known as New Education, All The Young are a quartet currently supporting Kaiser Chiefs and have their own headline tour to follow. Previous acts who have invited them to share the stage are Hard-Fi, The Courteeners and most impressively Morrissey, all of which should have increased their exposure ahead of the release of their first album in April.
