Amal Clooney delivered a passionate speech this week urging the world not to allow the Islamic State group to “get away with genocide” in Iraq, and to “stand up for justice” and show “moral leadership”.

The human rights lawyer and wife of George Clooney, whose law practice has represented the victims of IS rapes, beatings and kidnappings, told a United Nations assembly that the crimes being committed by the terrorist group were not the only things that were “shocking”, but also that the watching world had thusfar acted in such a “passive” manner.

Hollywood actor George Clooney had said he tries to cope with the “suffocation” of fame by using his high profile to highlight global injustices. Clooney was speaking at an international forum on genocide prevention in in Armenia this weekend, where he will also hand out the the inaugural US Aurora Prize.

George Clooney had said he tries to cope with the “suffocation” of fame by doing charity work.

Clooney said he began tying to use his fame to highlight global issues after reading about atrocities being committed in Sudan’s Darfur region in the early 2000s. “Fame has an interesting element to it but if you tend to be followed round by a camera then you can feel suffocated at times,” the actor said.

George Clooney seems to have filed a restraining order against the rest of the world, with the news that the mayor of the Italian town where the actor owns two luxury villas has drastically raised the fine that can be imposed on members of the public getting too close to the properties.

According to the Telegraph, Roberto Pozzi, the mayor of the picturesque town of Laglio on the shores of Lake Como, confirmed that those who create “problems of public order” when gathering near either of his properties will be liable to a fine of 500 euros (or $550), nearly five times what it was before.

Amal Alamuddin showed her support with a badge, adorning her Dior ensemble.

Many of them did so by wearing the Je Suis Charlie slogan on their arrival at the show. Amal Clooney said that she was wearing Dior, "customized in solidarity with the French people who've gone through a terrible week," according to Elle magazine. A "Je suis Charlie" badge was displayed on her purse, while her husband, George Clooney, also wore a similar button, according to ABC News.

That interview became the basis for his entire public persona, to the point that Clooney told Walters in a 2006 interview that he no longer had to tell women he was dating that he wasn't interested in marriage since they'd seen the first interview with Walters.

George Clooney and the London-based lawyer/writer/editor/activist/all-round Renaissance woman Amal Alamuddin are yet to be legally married, but they’ve probably had enough wedding parties, ceremonies and the like to last them a lifetime. One day after they exchanged vows at a symbolic ceremony in Venice (Italy, not Venice Beach), the couple celebrated with two private meals for friends and family.

Ahead of their own festivities, the pair graced the Italian social scene, attending Celebrity Fight Night in support of the Andrea Bocelli Foundation. The event was held at the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center in Florence.
