The notorious Amanda Knox trial was a saga which dominated headlines globally. Now, almost a year and a half after Knox's second conviction was overturned the case has been turned into a Netflix documentary.

In 2007 Knox was arrested with her then-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito accused of the murder of Knox's friend, 21-year-old Meredith Kercher. Knox would go on to spend four years in jail before being released by the Supreme Court of Cassation, the highest court in Italy.

First Look At Michael Winterbottom's 'Amanda Knox' Movie. Urgh.

Footage from Michael Winterbottom's Amanda Knox-inspired movie Face of An Angel has premiered on Variety's website. A fictionalisation of the much-publicised murder investigation and subsequent sentences, Winterbottom's movie stars the underrated Daniel Bruhl, the overrated Kate Beckinsale and the frankly untested Cara Delevingne.

Based on the book Angel Face: Sex, Murder and the Inside Story of Amanda Knox by journalist by Barbie Latza Nadeau, Winterbottom's movie follows a filmmaker (Bruhl) who travels to Italy to research a film adaptation of the book with its author (Beckinsale).

Video - Deanna Knox Thankful That Sister's Nightmare Is Over


Deanna Knox, the sister of Amanda Knox, gives an emotional speech to the press outside the courthouse in Perugia, Italy, where Amanda's 2007 murder conviction of former roommate Meredith Kercher was overturned by an appeal jury.

The press turned out in force on the cobbled streets of Perugia as the Knox family leave the courthouse. Deanna told the press: 'We're thankful that Amanda's nightmare is over. She's suffered for four years for a crime that she did not commit.'

Amanda Knox heard yesterday at the court in Perugia, Italy, that her 2007 murder conviction of former roommate Meredith Kercher has been overturned. As the judge announces the verdict, Amanda is immediately comforted by the people next to her. The courtroom applauds as Amanda is hugged by her family. The police then escort her out of the building.

Amanda's former boyfriend, Raffaele Sollectio, was also found not guilty after the appeal and he, too, is seen being escorted from the courtroom. Earlier in the day, both had made emotional appeals to have their conviction overturned
