Amanda Peterson Died From Accidental Drug Overdose, Rules Coroner

Peterson, the teenage star of 'Can't Buy Me Love' back in 1987, was found dead in July this year.
Former teen actress Amanda Peterson, who passed away in July this year aged 43, died from an accidental overdose of drugs.
TMZ obtained a copy of a report from the Weld County Coroner in Colorado, which states that Peterson had a number of prescription drugs, many of which contained morphine, in her system at the time of death. It also states that the cause of death was respiratory failure, brought on by the effects of the amount of morphine.

Peterson, who shot to fame with her star turn opposite ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ star Patrick Dempsey in the 1987 teen movie Can’t Buy Me Love, was discovered dead at her home by police in Greeley, Colorado, on July 5th having been reported as missing the previous day after her family had not heard from her in a couple of days.

The report stated that Peterson was “naïve to opiates”, and that the presence of one drug, Gabapentin, was found in quantities six times over the recommended dose. It also notes that she had undergone a hysterectomy shortly before her death, and was believed to have obtained medication containing morphine (which she had not been prescribed) from a friend in a bid to self-medicate and manage post-surgery pain.
At the time of her death, Peterson’s father reportedly noted she’d been suffering from a number of health concerns over the past few years, including pneumonia, sinusitis and sleep apnoea.
After shooting to fame in the late ‘80s, Peterson continued to star in movies and TV shows until the mid ’90s, when she decided to quit the industry. Her final credit was in the 1994 movie WindRunner. She is survived by her second husband and two children.
