Most crime dramas go stale after a season or two, but the BBC’s New Tricks has somehow managed to keep it fresh season after season for a decade. New Tricks might now be threatened, however, as one of the stars – Amanda Redman – has announced her departure at the end of the current season. “I’ve been thinking about it for a while,” Redman, who plays Sandra Pullman on the show, commented for The Mirror. “because every good thing eventually has to come to an end.”

It's a bittersweet goodbye for Redman.

She continued: “I’m very proud of it, though. New Tricks has been an important part of my life and I’ve found it very easy to play Sandra. She’s very bossy and, I have to admit, so am I!”

The end of the show’s current season will be marked by another departure, as ex-DI Brian Lane, played by co-star Alun Armstrong, is also exiting the show. While both actors have been with the series from the very beginning, this is by far not the end for New Tricks. The show must go on after all and this particular show will go on with the new additions of Only Fools And Horses star Nicholas Lyndhurst, and ex-EastEnder Tamzin Outhwaite as the new boss of the team, DCI Sacha Millard.

Redman commented that she was going to miss the camaraderie on set most. She said: “I’ll miss the people the most. There’s not been a day on set when we haven’t laughed. We’ve had to stop filming so many times because we’ve all been in fits. And the leaving drinks I had all got a bit messy.” Fortunately, the character of Sandra will not be killed off, so the door remains open for Redman to return at some point.
