Nugent: 'I Warned Hendrix To Give Up Drugs'

  • 21 August 2010

Rocker Ted Nugent has revealed he tried to ween guitar great Jimi Hendrix off drugs in the months before he died in 1970.
The Cat Scratch Fever star experienced the extent of his hero's drug intake during a jam session with the tragic star backstage at a concert - when he was offered all manner of narcotics.
But he didn't want to ruin the moment, so he declined - and went on to become a drug-free rocker after seeing so many greats become "drooling and puking" dead men.
He says, "I saw how they got to the drooling, puking and dying thing and I went, 'I think I'll avoid the drooling puking and dying s**t'.
"I got to jam in a dressing room with Jimi Hendrix... and I said, 'Jimi, I don't want any of your dope and I don't want any of your drugs because I'm digging what you're playing and I'd like to be able to dig what you're playing.'
"I could give you a list of guys... that I told them (sic) they were gonna die if they kept doing this stuff - and they all did die."
