Hollywood actor [Matt Dillon](https://www.contactmusic.com/matt-dillon) has no regrets over turning down the lead role in the 1980 movie THE BLUE LAGOON, because he thought the finished product was "silly".

The 41-year-old actor was making a name for himself in the early 1980s in films including [The Outsiders](https://www.contactmusic.com/the-outsiders) and RUMBLE FISH, and he

loved the idea of filming on an exotic island with the film's star [Brooke Shields](https://www.contactmusic.com/brooke-shields)

But Dillon was so unimpressed with The Blue Lagoon's script he decided to turn the part, which eventually went to [Christopher Atkins](https://www.contactmusic.com/christopher-atkins), down.

He says, "I've turned down a lot of movies and there were a lot of reasons to turn down The Blue Lagoon. It wasn't just the nudity. It was kind of a silly movie, you know?

"Much as I was tempted to go to Tahiti and run around with no clothes on, I had to let that one go."
