J-Walk released their excellent debut album A Night on the Rocks on the 28th of October through East West records, the duo Martin Brew and Martin Desai who emerge from Manchester have been tipped as the best dance act to materialize from their home town since 808 state. The pair formed J Walk after they discovered that they shared a mutual interest for disco, funk and old Detroit techno all these different influences shine through on their 12 track album.
The album changes mood from funky, to lo-fi then is brought back to its disco roots on Heavens Above (featuring Sarah Hill), The Wasp is the last track and is more of an alternative dance track, similar to the likes of Orbital. To round up the album, it's a refreshing serving of Northern Soul for now, that is a breath of fresh air in todays deflated dance scene and one of those albums that grows on you with every listen adding more life and warmth to each track.
