The Zookeeper's Boy
Single Review

Despite its big Bunnymen style guitars, epic production and glacial vocals, "The Zookeeper's Boy" evokes little more than its own self-created bluster.

The faintly ridiculous lyrics about becoming a giraffe and an ostrich suggest that there's a decent Flaming Lips-esque song trying to get out, but is submerged beneath overcooked multilayered vocals. Pared down slightly and given a less garish production, Mew could have a memorable single on their hands, but "The Zookeeper's Boy" contains far too many spurious sounds to truly hit home.
