One Love
War Child Album - One Love This week sees the release of ‘1 LOVE’ – a very special album featuring five decades of life-affirming number one songs, recorded by some of the most exciting artists currently scaling the charts, to raise funds for War Child. The album is a worthy successor to the 1995 War Child ‘HELP’ album which raised over 1.25 million pounds for the charity.

Former number one artists themselves, Oasis, Manic Street Preachers, The Prodigy, and Stereophonics have all contributed alongside newcomers Sugababes, Darius and Mercury Music Prize winner Ms Dynamite. There are also several inspired collaborations including Badly Drawn Boy with Jools Holland, More Fire Crew featuring Gabrielle and Faithless recording with Dido.

All the artists have all chosen a number one track from the last 50 years to cover for 1 Love, with some inspirational and dazzling selections. The album is released on B-Unique via WEA in conjunction with NME, who are enjoying their fiftieth anniversary this year. For the last ten years War Child have been actively providing aid to children whose lives have been devastated by war. In Bosnia, Africa, Afghanistan and the Middle East, War Child has helped some 5 million people rebuild their lives.

1995's enormously successful HELP album was hugely instrumental in raising the charity's profile for all the work it did during the Bosnian crisis. Many acts donated their time and music to make a truly amazing album. These included Manic Street Preachers, Oasis, Massive Attack, Radiohead and Blur. Each band recorded and delivered their song on the same day, and the album was released one week later. The album went on to raise 1.25 million pounds for the cause. The years ‘1 Love’ album was completed on 4th September, exactly 7 years to the day for the delivery of all tracks for ‘Help’.
