George Simmons is a hero to many people, a comedy genius who's been at the top of his game as a stand-up comedian for many years. When budding comedian Ira gets a break playing the same gig as George he's made up to find George was a fan of his material and evn asks Ira to write some jokes for him. Ira accepts his offer with little doubt, as the duos friendship blossoms George informs Ira he's dying. The friends become closer, George teaches Ira some tricks of the trade and and Ira helps George find closure with his life.

When George's illness is pushed into remission he tries a whole new way of living.
