In 1960's England, there wasn't such a thing as womens rights in the workplace, for the most part they were treated as an underclass. Working for less pay was just one of the pitfalls of working as a woman.

Made in Dagenham is the story of Rita O'Grady and 187 female sewing machinist colleagues who all work at the Ford factory in Dagenham. As their workplace became more impoverished, it was becoming clear to the women on the floor that their jobs were seen as unimportant, and when the bosses decided to categorise their jobs as unskilled, it was the final nail in the coffin. Knowing she was in danger of losing her job, Rita stood up and led her fellow machinists on a mission to grant women the right to earn equal pay.

The quick witted and fast talking Rita found herself as the face of thousands of women around the UK. Her quest eventually falls on the ears of government and leads to the creation of the Equal Pays Act.
