Ren McCormack moves to Beaumont, Tennessee from Boston. He soon becomes friends with a boy named Willard, who tells him that the council has banned dancing and loud music, due to a tragic accident a few years' prior involving teenagers after a night out.

With the senior prom coming up, Ren decides to oppose the ban in order to revitalise the town again by going up against the city council with the help of the Reverend's unruly daughter, Ariel, who he falls in love with.

Footloose is a remake of the original 1984 film, starring Kevin Bacon, Lori Singer and John Lithgow and directed by Herbert Ross. The remake was originally going to star High School Musical actor Zac Efron, who dropped out before filming started. Director and choreographer Kenny Ortega, who has worked with Efron in the popular Disney franchise, was announced as director in 2008 but instead dropped out from production a year later. Footloose is set to be released in the UK and the USA in October this year.
